  • It’s been 4 weeks since we started the renovation on our 1970’s Idaho home, and nothing has gone according to plan. (Of course, right?) Four weeks since we unpacked the UHaul. Four weeks since we picked up the flooring for the house and tiles for the bathroom. Four weeks of cleaning and scrubbing and painting and unpacking and bouncing around between places to sleep. Four weeks without heat. Four full weeks and two days.I had no idea how much work the house would need. Completely naïve. But if we had known, would we have done it? Innocence affords a hope not always present with experience. Here we are. Four weeks in. Celebrating our successes and moving around our setbacks. No heat, no stove, no flooring, no internet. Toilet and shower are finally installed but not fully functioning. But hey, we’re still glad we started this - even if it might not be finished by Christmas!
oh and re: the heat, the gas company came and turned on the gas and the furnace worked. But the next day it didn't. Gas company came back and... must be the furnace. On Monday, a heating guy came and said nope, it's an electrical problem. Now we're waiting for an electrician and wearing multiple layers at night! :)
