💯. I often prefer the CV/BN80 reissues to the TP reissues. The 2025 BN CV Series rocks! Of note, I truly hope (if not expect) Don & the BN guys to break the r traditional CV/BN80 patterns and reissue the two, March CVs of the great gatefold album jackets of Horace Silver's "Serenade...." and Lou D's "Say It Loud" AS GATEFOLD replica jackets just like the BN originals. Some of those gatefolds back then, in many genres, were popular.
BTW, I had never heard of Music Matters and so I looked them up today. Not many titles in stock, so my assumption is that they are good. The price though…
There are some real doozies on this list! Looking forward to most of them. Thanks for sharing the info and for your educated takes on each one of them.
I love these overviews, super helpful and informative. Thanks for taking the time to do these. 🙏🏼 I’m really looking forward to Roll Call, The Procrastinator, Solid, and A Blowing Session. Have a great Thanksgiving!
Hey man, Great content as usual!!! Me & my brothers met you at the ATL record show in the spring., we were selling at a table together in the back! I am really looking forward to a good bit of these, but especially in August for “The Soothsayer”, & “The Procrastinator”.. just haven’t been able to obtain those on MMJ, but I do have the other shelved copies on MMJ of “Here to Stay”, & “Solid”!!! Take care.
Good The Procrastinator and Soothsayer is finally coming out for folks. Two titles that people have been anticipating. Excited for the Eddie Henderson also.
Thanks a lot for the rundown.I have most of the originals but that is a pretty great line up and will be looking for a couple of the 'delayed issue' sessions.
Thanks for the video. I have a so so copy of lookout titled " the soul of Stanley Turrentine" 1969 Sunset records a division of Liberty. Looking forward to replacing it!
Great lineup 🎉 thanks for the expert rundown! I think you sold me on the Grant Green as I don’t usually collect jazz guitar led sessions. As for the 80s titles, when I’m interested I usually look for original copies used.
COOOL! I was hoping that the Review box was telegraphing the Procrastinator punch! I have the 2 LP on my eBay watch list and I nearly pulled the trigger on one this week. So, I'm guessing the Procrastinator will be the Music Matters 1 LP version? I like some of the 2nd LP tracks from 1969 on the LT version. It would be cool if those songs ended up somewhere if they aren't on the August release. Also happy to see Grant Green's Solid on the list. I've had a couple of versions of this on discogs wishlist: The 2009 LT-990 US release and the original 1979 one.
Been grabbing all of these since they were the Blue Note 80th series... and also Tone Poets. I'm glad to have delved pretty deep into some jazz I would have otherwise not bothered with. The 4 records per month anxiety is kind of getting to me. lol
Hi and thanks for the review, I have the Sonny Rollins in the french 1982 Pathe Marconi edition, the sound is good but do you know if it's all analog ? Will be fun to compare with the Classic one. And btw, the special price for the 2 next to come is not available from France for the moment ! 😁
Today is 30% off all the blue note classic series so I got caught up. They had the sale on Tone poets last week. Looking forward to next year’s line up.
Check out Eddie Henderson's early 70s titles and his first BN in the mid 70s, all excellent. Sonny's Crib is the one I'm looking forward to, I've been waiting for it to come around, great record. 👍
A Hill’s Judgement was re-released on the Blue Note Connoisseur Series…just curious to hear your thoughts on that series (in general). I have that Conn series Judgement, sounds great! Thanks for your videos!
As a Hard Bop Jazz guy, there is a lot to like on this 2025 BNC list. In my case, I too already had many of the hard bop seesions in some format or reissue. My 1990 Sonny'Crib Reissue is a keeper. I'll probably be trading out my older reissues of Our Man In Paris, Roll Call, Lookout- (mine's a bootleg DMM), the Soothsayer, and possibly my copy of A Blowing Session for these new BNC reissues. There are some titles that I was hoping for that didn't make the list such as: Dexter Gordon, Dexter Calling; Donald Byrd, Off to the Races; more of Hank Mobley's and/or Lee Morgan's eary 1500 series titles yet to be reissued; Horace Parlan, Us Three; Freddie Hubbard, Going Up, Up, Up; Sonny Clark, Sonny Clark Quintets; Jackie Mclean, New Soil; and a few others. Well, maybe next year.
Lee Morgan's Caramba was originally a gatefold and was reissued in the classic series as gatefold as well, so I believe this will be the case with the new titles (Horace Silver, Lou Donaldson, etc)
A lot of really great titles. Sonny Clark, Hank Mobley, Grant Green, Stanley Turrentine, Lee Morgan, Wayne Shorter, Freddie Redd excited for those. It’s more which ones am I not getting.
PS The Reid Miles designed BN jackets were/are as important to the history & overall lore of Blue Note as the particular music in many cases! I own two books on Reid's artwork & design history. The 🐐 of his era. Folks, if they don't know, should really look up his orher corporate clientele & graphic output! HECK, Miles was a very interesting cat and we need a documentary on his life!
Thanks for doing the video! Definitely interested in finally getting copies on some of titles that I could never get such as Roll Call, Sonny’s Crib, Shades of Redd, The Procastinator, House Party and a Blowing Session. Disappointed in both Byrd and Donaldson titles. Would rather have The Cat Walk or Mustang! or LD + 3 or earlier Lou Donaldson session. Also disappointed in no Three Sounds session of any kind.
@@jazzvinylcollector technically, the original Say it Loud! is a 'unipak' jacket, which means it has the LP pocket on the inside at the fold. Not too many titles got that treatment.
The 2025 list looked great to me until I got to December and saw the Johnny Griffin. Two days after I spent $150 on the Music Matters issue. 😩 At least that gives me hope that some of the other titles released by MM will eventually be reissued by Blue Note.
I'm looking forward to the Horace Silver album which I'm not familiar with. I saw Horace live twice in the early 1970s and enjoy his unique style and Cape Verdean rythym. Example: th-cam.com/video/NFjmWI-d6d4/w-d-xo.html
@@DANVIIL wow very cool to be able to see Horace at that time! I was fortunate to see Lou Donaldson at the vanguard but it was definitely in the twilight of his career
I strongly disagree about your take on Say it Loud. I happen to think it’s terrific. Of course if you’re not into funk or soul jazz, then I could see how it might not appeal to you. I have the version on cd issued by Water some 20 years ago so I will pick this up. Hopefully, it’s a gatefold.
I think the varitone sound is something that doesn’t appeal to me, and some (but not all) of the music here is a bit too “jammy” for me and not enough to keep me interested
@ I find the varitone less intrusive here than when Sonny uses it; hate it there. Different strokes I guess. Are you a soul jazz fan. My impression (perhaps incorrect) is that you’re not.
@ I’m a fan of some, i guess what comes to mind in terms of stuff I like are albums by Johnny Hammond Smith, Freddie McCoy, Charles Kynard, Gene Ammons. It just depends, similar to any style of music I guess
Stop putting Barcodes on Classic Blue Note albums. The Japanese respect the music more with original series numbers and no Barcodes stamped on the covers.
This is amazing, this is really classic jazz. Thanks Blue Note.

This next years lineup is killer. I’m excited.
Great list. Super stoked
was hoping for mobley 1568 but nice to see they are doing some1 in love
Awesome that Andrew Hill’s “Judgment” is being reissued
Yes indeed!
I love these overviews, super helpful and informative. Thanks for taking the time to do these. 🙏🏼 I’m really looking forward to Roll Call, The Procrastinator, Solid, and A Blowing Session. Have a great Thanksgiving!
Very excited for Grant Green’s Solid

Fantastic overview thanks for the insights. I can see I am going to have to budget for a BN a month at a minimum 😅
And Sonny Clark Leapin' and Lopin' ?
Would be great to see this. Hoping it’s on their list.
Great to finally see some Don Pullen!

@@glenmoon LD+3 would be killer! As far as other three sounds albums, I don’t think it will happen but I’d like to see Moods in the tone poet series.
I had LD+3 on my prediction list especially after a lot of prior 3 Sounds reissues. Let’s hope it’s on a list down the road.
I keep hoping for more Jack Wilson but not next year I guess.
Agreed!
They recreated the gatefold for Lee Morgan's Caramba!
Ahh! Then maybe we can expect it for Lou and Horace!
@@jazzvinylcollector technically, the original Say it Loud! is a 'unipak' jacket, which means it has the LP pocket on the inside at the fold. Not too many titles got that treatment.
For the classic series Caramba!, too bad BN didn't actually recreate the original unipak sleeve, they cheaped out and just did a regular gatefold.
line up is great! I always like some title from the 90s and later but It will be for 2026 :)
Still no Grant Green's Am I Blue (BST 84139). Perhaps one day.
This feels like it’s on their list we just need to be patient. I have the same feeling for Joe Henderson’s Our Thing.

It’s all good. You have 13 months of pure listening pleasure with that MM record before the BNC lands. Enjoy!
Ho hum I have originals of all of these
Still with the flimsy jackets?
