  • My first impression of the new vibram furoshiki minimalist barefoot shoe concept. Very innovative and cool, but not very practical due to the thin material.

    A few vital points here. These shoes are designed for a specific purpose, so if you don't want to use them for that purpose, then you aren't going to be happy with them. They are designed to be as close as possible to wearing no shoe, to dry as quickly as possible if they get wet, but to have a really grippy sole and to pack away very small. They aren't going to do all things for all people. This guy is trying these on with SOCKS! So, straight off, his foot is going to slip around in the shoe... They are also designed to be adjustable fit. His feet are narrow, so he looks like he needs to tighten them up on the velcro, but he says he doesn't want to... well for a start, he is on a loser for fit. (Note he did one up the other way around to the other, btw...)
    I have a pair exactly the same as this. I can't pull my heels off like he does for a start and I myself have narrow feet and narrow heels! The depth of sole is the same on the heel as the rest of the sole, so I don't know what he is talking about for that one. I find they fit my feet well, I just adjust the velcro slightly to where it fits well. The toes can move well in them, yes, but when you walk in them, they don't slop around, they are actually pretty stable, even when wearing socks - as long as you get the fit right. If I wanted to run for a bus, I could, but they aren't designed as a running shoe! If you want to run, buy a version designed for running as they would be better.
    Yes, the fabric is thin - they aren't designed to be impervious to rain, but to dry quickly if wet.
    NOTE I can even wear orthotics in these if I want, there is room and they work fine and hold in place.
    All in all, at a sensible price and if you want them for what they are designed to do, they are quite innovative, are very comfortable and have a superb grip. They don't look cheap to me and I like them.

      Thanks for the mention of orthotics! I've got a fallen arch I need to wear inserts for and my normal vibrams with them are OK but not great (3/4 length insert) and rub my heel now. I was looking for something similar for just walking around and leaving my five fingers for gym and treadmill time. 😊

  • @Casualthug1

    so those that are saying save your money must not have had vibrams before. I owned 6 pairs of five fingers and each one had a purpose. second there isnt supposed to be any support at all in these type of shoes the point is to be as bare foot as a possible with out having to break shoe laws. So for those that are asking for padding then get a shoe with padding. Bare foot shoes is a lifestyle not a fashion statement. So before you trash the company on shoes first educate yourself in the art of bare foot living. Its supposed to hurt you've been wearing heavily padded shoes all your life. I will buy 6 more vibram products because I like being a minimalist shoe wearer and love the benefits it provides for me. Yes these are pricey for what they are. I bought a pair of these furos and I love it. I paid Half of the asking price online. but its retail and its also called supply and demand.

    I just bought these! I’ve been wanting to try to be barefoot or as close to barefoot as possible! I walk dogs all day! 3-7mi a day is hard on bare feet. These are a nice compromise because they protect my feet from painful things like the chestnuts, walnuts, and other falling things during this autumn season. They still make me feet hot, but I’m super sensitive to anything covering my feet; they don’t make me any hotter than wearing another shoe. I wear them without socks, and they do not slip around on my skin anywhere on my foot! I measured my feet before ordering. I’ve walked in these for a week so far! And yes! I can run in them if running in the correct forefoot strike style! I still prefer to be barefoot due to my overheating issues, and love feeling the energies of Earth flow. I’m thinking to buy a second pair soon that are all black as j got a navy and white pair. Awesome product!!

    Firstly thanks for your review. However I must point out a few things. 1) This shoe is not designed for sport only leisure and travel 2) The material has been carefully chosen so it conforms to any foot shape and is not as you said intended to support but actually the very opposite 3) bearing 2 in mind if you have a broad foot then the rubber panels fold over from the side and become part of the sole. 4) Agreed there are some minor flaws. Vibram are innovative and take a completely unique approach to footwear. That said watch this space for more developments next year.

  • @marcdeo9820
    @marcdeo9820 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    excellent review especially in the detail you offer with regards to the softness and stretchiness of the material. It's apparently designed for a casual walking shoe, basically a sock you can wear outdoors but any lateral movements and you'll slide within the shoe.

  • @PkGam
    @PkGam 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Interesting... Thanks for making this! I was thinking that the design of these might solve my usual shoe shopping issues of "can't find something that feels comfy out of 100 shoes" because of the wrap around. But the over-flexibility and practically no waterproofing makes me think these may not quite be the solution I was hoping for. I "guess" you could go without socks and just tolerate the water soakage issue, but if your foot slides around or even comes off the heel repeatedly, it may cause blisters or wear out really fast.

    "complete fail as running shoes" ... no! take off your socks -.- Your bare foot is THE best "running shoe" that has been optimized over thousands of years: trial and error (yeah, those with bad mutation died because no mobility) :/ BUT that gives us today a pretty bad as*-tool> bare foot. The support btw. comes from your muscles and tennons etc. BUT you need to build those SLOWLZ. Also you can run on street, but those are also not much good ... so if you want cushion: run in the forest, that ground with trained feet will give you everything.

    did you only try them with socks on? my 5 fingers feel a bit "slippery" when i have socks but become a second skin without socks so just wondering. plus the material is thin for breathability not warmth so you can't be mad at that. its like hating on sandles for not being warm in the winter, its not what its designed for.

    • @joyback1595
      @joyback1595  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've tried them barefoot, the sole however doesn't feel as "sticky" from the inside as the FiveFingers.
      I'm not mad or anything and temperature isn"t really a concern, because you have the winter collection coming up after all. But the thin material pays a big factor in the slipping of the foot and overall instability of the shoe. What good is a shoe if you feel like you'll loose it any step?

    Hey, nice video! Do you think these shoes would be any good for martial arts and gym work? Cheers

    • @joyback1595
      @joyback1595  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      They are great for deadlifting but that's about it. Not good if you're jumping or running. For martial arts, just grab a pair of kung-fu slippers for 10 bucks.

    Did I understand it right. Besides material thickness the main deficit of the shoe is not supporting natural middle to front foot walking. Instead it makes you walk on the heels? But the minimalist style makes you want it to be the other way around?

    • @joyback1595
      @joyback1595  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Pretty much. The stretchy and thin material makes it so that your shoe slides around while running, twisting or turning. So in order to walk without a heel strike, you'd have to be conscious with every step and don't go too fast.

    • @joyback1595

      I think you understood that wrong. It doesn't mimic a natural (forefoot or mid-foot) walk.

    I guess I can save my $120. I was considering these for travel. I thought that they would be very convenient for passing through security checkpoints where I have to remove my shoes and put them back on rather quickly. Thank you for the review.

      @joyback1595  8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      If you want them solely for the purpose of passing through security and comfort whilst flying, these are perfect!
      However it's a steep price for a shoe that will probably be annoying to wear in everyday life because of the sliding.

      +vegan PT I appreciate your detailed review. This is the thing that sours me with retailers. 😒 They make the product look more durable, so that consumers will make the purchase, then the merchandise is NOTHING like what is advertise in the commercials. 😳 There is no way that these shoes can withstand all of the activity portrayed in the commercials. What false advertisement. 😟 I cannot run through the airport with these, I stand the chance of stubbing a toe or twisting my ankle if I pivot the wrong way and my foot slides. These are a pair of expensive bath slippers. 😕 Thank you again for being thorough and honest. Cheers.

    Im looking for a light shoe i can wear after long days hiking that can be worn in water, occasionally wear as trail shoes to walk in and pack down quite small. These to me look like a good option, any thoughts?

    • @joyback1595
      @joyback1595  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They pack incredibly small, they are very lightweight, but your foot will slip around in them because the material is too stretchy. Won't ever wear these on a trail.

    i've read some reviews complaining incorrect sizing when they ordered via amazon. im a 42-43 in the usual vibrams, so what size should i get the furos?

    • @joyback1595
      @joyback1595  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I bought two pairs initially and send back both of them. The one with correct sizing however fit the sole of my foot better. Except the tension of the velcro layers wasn't enough to keep it firm on my foot.

    • @joyback1595

      They're probably fine for those exercises as long as you don't do any running or jumping. You can however buy simple slippers like the kind powerlifters wear of kung fu shoes for a fraction of the price.

    i bet the velcro wears out. if they'd put a buckle for behind the heal it'd strap on more reliably, or at least x straps from the heal up before you wrap the fronts. that'll fix the heal falling off problem.
    material is way too thin, even at the front where its needed. i thought the rubber would prevent your foot from pushing through the front like a skeletal structure. good design. poor engineering. a few changes would make them better.

    Wait, why can't you run in these?

    • @camordini
      @camordini 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      According to the video- the heel seems slightly thicker than the forefront- creating a natural inclination to strike the heel first when walking and running. In order to run correctly without padding, you need a forefront or midsole strike first. However, another reviewer said they had no problem with a forefoot strike. I do not have these shoes- but evidently love explaining things.

    • @Rose_Butterfly98
      @Rose_Butterfly98 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      camordini just tried them yesterday to see what it was about. Actually no, the heel isn't thicker , I think he was talking about the toe thing , which want a problem for me either. Either way, because Ive been running in sandals for so long after I got too heavy to run barefoot(feet would get cut a lot, the ground I was running on wasn't exactly good for barefoot running) that my heels now hardly touch the ground. You should try these they're great
