    Still impressive for a 60 year old machine that was at the back of a shed until a few weeks ago. I wonder how many Lexion 8000 will still be running in 60 years?

    One of the few combinesa left working that can get through a gate without removing the header. Looking forward to seeing the repairs required over the winter to get her ready for next year's campaign.

      That is true that. So many traditional stone gate posts and ancient hedgerows have been grubbed out so huge modern behemoths can stride across huge prairy like plains stretching far away over the horizon. Proper little bonny combines is what nature and the countryside prefers.

    Lovely to see the old girl out there. Used to look after one of these about 30 years ago. Had the same problem as I recall it’s a big fatbelt goes on there . funny never thought to film a combine in those days but wow how wonderful to see it going. Good luck with your harvest and thank you

    Tremendous video Dan. Great to see the old girl still working. After 60 years and 12 years laid up a few breakdowns are inevitable. Well done for getting her out again for us all to see.

    Amazing video for me. A MF 410 sits on my grandfather's farm.
    The combine is barely visible through grown trees, it has been sitting there for 45 years.

    Always nice to see one of the elderly ladies out dancing in the fields. And when it comes to the grain sample, looks good, given what Mother nature has offered the plants this season.

    Great video Dan 👍 no shame to the old girl 🤔 she'll be a bit shinier inside now 👍 was told first time I drove a combine that your speed should be that when you go into the crop the straw should start coming out the back in line with the edge of the standing crop and your speed was bang on 👌

    As old as it is and being sat for 12 years it was in a bit of a state, it's a miracle it's gotten as far as it has. The work it's managed would have done the engine some good and the grain polished it up nicely. I'm looking forward to seeing this little old beast doing a bit better next year!

    Considering the dry year the sample you showed is plenty good enough.
    If you're thinking of growing it next year it may be worth having someone in to screen the best grain for sowing next year? Unless you're thinking of growing a winter verity?
    I asked to soon Dan never mind.
    I'd say you're well over 2 tonne looking at the heap and the acres you said.
    Such a pity you didn't get finished what's close by but until the end the repairs were just niggles and a pain, no long stops.
    Great to see her going.
    Hopefully the combine cutting the rest of it will give you a much better idea of the tonnes he/ she harvests?

  • @ianclarke4660
    @ianclarke4660 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Interesting video which shows how simple in principle a combine is but liable to breakdown and be unusable due to age and being stored for 12 years. To contradict myself the machine is actually a complex system of operating parts all put together to achieve one outcome and all depend on other parts working to achieve the desired end result. Looks like a good crop of wheat.

      @@colinevans9672 Yes, life used to be a lot simpler. I'm going back to the 70's when it seems that the sun always shone and my pint glass was always full. When reality sets in though you have to admit that combines do away with a lot of the hard graft and things weren't all that great after all.

      @TheGrimReaper1 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes I did two years of it after I left school in 64. That year was the end off thrashing in my area when the local contractor gave it up . We only did about ten acres of wheat at that stage mainly for wheat batons to put on the potato pie/clamp before soiling up. At the end of thrashing they were brought inside and that was a big improvement. I was glad to see the back of it all and the two hundred weight bags of wheat. I did manage to carry one up the granary steps just to prove I could, only just mind you but I was only about sixteen or seventeen.

    Just shows one can't do a job correctly enough without further troubles. Yes the fan bearings need attended. Isn't that the water pump bearings. Be spraying down those alternator bolts so that can be fixed correctly. I think she did well, but that hydraulic pump shieve needs straightened out so this doesn't happen. Use a straight edge off the pump pully to see how straight it is. That must be corrected before anything else even if the motor bracket needs cut off and rewelded.

  • @robertallen3441
    @robertallen3441 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hydraulic pump bracket has probably twisted slightly. I used to fit wedge shaped flat washers between the bracket and adjuster channel to get the pullies to run in line. Definitely needs a wider section belt fitting. Get the fan bearing changed asap, you dont want the expense of a new rad core. Sounds like the traction gearbox input shaft is dragging, needs the brake cone adjusting. Not doing the 1st and reverse pinions in the box any good. Fan drive shaft circlips were always an issue, later models went to a snap ring, but were still not perfect. Not a proper fix, but a dab with the welder usually cures it !!!!!

    • @CowfarmerDan
      @CowfarmerDan  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      No brake on the gearbox input shaft on this one, although it's shown in the workshop book we have.
      Did the early ones not have it fitted?

    • @robertallen3441
      @robertallen3441 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@CowfarmerDan You must have a very early machine, never seen one without a brake. Didnt start working on MF combines till 1974, but worked on several MF 400/500's. Problem could be the bearings in the clutch pulley being a bit tight due to solidified grease or rust and causing the input shaft to drag. Might be worth pulling it apart and cleaning everything up. Cheaper than a new set of cogs!
