    Hi there, great videos ! Really informative
    I just have a stupid question if anyone could answer.
    I don't understand why mu would be used in the hypotheses given we already have the population mean of 120.
    Why is the alternative hypothesis that the population mean is not equal to 120. isn't the difference we are looking in our sample mean ?shouldn't it be that the sample mean is not equal to 120 as we already know that the population mean is.

      @EugeneOLoughlin  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi Felix,
      Please check your data again. I have just rechecked the calculation and 130.05 is the correct mean. It may be that my hand-writing is not that easy to read, so here are the data for you to work with:
      128
      118
      144
      133
      132
      111
      149
      139
      136
      126
      127
      115
      142
      140
      131
      132
      122
      119
      129
      128
      Hope this helps,
      Dr E.

    Hello, why did you use two-tails?

    • @EugeneOLoughlin
      @EugeneOLoughlin  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Chiken Wings,
      The question I am asking here is: "Does the blood pressure (BP) of female doctors differ from the regular population of women?"
      I am not asking if the BP is higher or lower - this would involve a one-tail test. I just want to know if there is a difference - this means a two-tail test.
      Of course, there are only two options when you find a difference: BP will be higher or lower. In the video, the result I got indicated that the BP is higher in female doctors - I can tell this from the positive value (4.513) for the t statistic, which falls in the right tail.
      So - use a two-tail test when you want to find out if there is a difference.
      Hope this helps,
      Dr E.
