Very cool! I love that soundtrack. I've played around with it on harp a little bit (we had someone asking about it on /harmonica on reddit a while back too). Fiddle parts often make great harmonica parts. I never thought of playing around with a loop pedal on it.
Yes, this style actually lends itself to looping cos it’s often uses the minor and major chords on regular harmonicas, so on a c harmonica Dmin Gmaj Cmaj. Can’t remember much about the chords on this one but on Swalloll Tail jig the chords are (if I was using a c harmonica) Cmaj & Dmin. Simple!!!
Hi thanks for that. I played 3 little birds (your user name) last night, the keyboard riff is really easy for harmonica if you play. D harmonica if I remember rightly with the main note being S4.
Excellent! I needed someone to show me that the fast part can be done cleanly, Now I'm inspired to work (struggle?) with it. Thank you! Here are some basic tabs I worked out in case they might be helpful to another beginner. Not showing the repeats. Fast part: 5~ 7-7-6 -7-66 -66-4 6~ -7-6-7 -87-8 -7-6-7 7~ 7-77 -877 7-7-6 -7~ -7-6-7 -8-7-7 -7-66 Slow part: 7~ -7-65~ -67 -77-8~~ 7-89~ -98 -88-9~ -7-7-6~~
hi chris - AndyChaplin here..! heard a song on Spotify by the Holloways - and remembered your old band the Holloway Brothers that led me here - good to see you still at it and as good as ever.
Hi Andy, thanks for getting in contact, great to hear from you. How are you? didn't you move down to Cornwall (seems to be a bit of a trend)?. I remember you used to love thinking up band names. Are you still in contact with Nick Shelmerdine? Here's a video of a bit of nonsense I had to improvise whilst my partner repaired his guitar during a gig. th-cam.com/video/3Ph5sCyiIds/w-d-xo.html
merci, thanks. There's also a cool octave thing you can do that works on both harmonicas, that's (B2 +5) (S1+S4) and (B3 + B6). This is me playing it with Mike Carley, see I switch between the harmonicas doing the octaves. th-cam.com/video/3mi8HlZkpHs/w-d-xo.html
Hi Inali, I have never written out what I play here, but when I first did this others did. Just have a look at their tabs.. The way I worked it out was by slowing down the original, writing out the notes then going through harmonica charts to see which harmonica gets closest and would allow the most fluid melody. - this took many many hours in total!! For your C harmonica you can play along with my "Shaking Rabbit" version of this which was the first one I did, and was the first one on youtube using "4th position" playing. To get you started, the first 2 notes of the main melody are blow 5 then blow 7. Good luck with this.
Hi Humbert, thanks for the compliment. Sadly I've never written out any tabs for this one. However, you are in luck mate, because someone wrote out what I did in the first version I put on youtube of this song as "shaking Rabbit" back in about 2012 ish, this guy here: th-cam.com/video/YHl1k2_yQY8/w-d-xo.html

Like the first of the songs in this link, very simple, and i don't think anyone would be interested, but thanks for your encouragement!!! www.hotstove3.com/listen
Hi there, yes of course, it was nearly a year ago so my memory of it isn't brilliant, but I know the one that does the major part in the backing is a normally tuned harmonica in D but it's the one that's an octave lower, I've done it with the higher D too and it works just as well. The harmonica that does the minor part for the backing and the melody is either an A or a G can't remember now, but my thing is not to use special tunings but use position playing instead. The cool thing is you can get a minor chord from a normal major harmonica by using draw 4/5/6. Here's a video with other ideas of things to do in this song - I'm doing a nice octave tongue blocking thing with the 2 harmonicas on this one skip to 43 seconds in. th-cam.com/video/3mi8HlZkpHs/w-d-xo.html Let me know how you get on.
No worries, thinking about it logically the main part of it should be an A harmonica, but if I've got that wrong then it'll be a G, just blow 2 or 5 and that's the key of the song. (5th position) that'll tell you.
@@thelonecelticharper8259 Thank you! :) I tried on G harmonica. I love minor harp I am playing it on Lee Oskar A minor harmonica: th-cam.com/video/pC3qlPViGDw/w-d-xo.html
I think you mean key - right? if you do : The answer is a little bit complicated. It depends on what "position" you want to play in. I play it in 4th Position as I can get the fluidity I need for it. I believe the original which appears in the film is in Dmin. so to play in fourth position you would play an F harmonica. I recorded the clip a long time ago, but I think I'm playing a G or an A harmonica - honestly can't remember.
Thanks for the comment, yes it's tricky when you've also got 2 or even 3 harmonicas in your hand at the same time. Also you can't get any nice hand effects with the mic. for gigs I used to use am SM7 mic which allows you to back off from the mic.
Hi Andrew, I don't know what you said, but it looks like a compliment - so thanks to you. Which language is that, looks like you come from somewhere to the East my friend.
Hi Guilherme, when I first did this some people kindly then wrote out the tabs and put them up on youtube, so best to look at one of their videos to see how they made it into tabs. The chordal accompaniment is minor and major but just played on 2 normal harmonicas - I don't want to re-learn new notes in the holes I'm used to, so I only use regular harmonicas!! . So the cool thing is the backing part of the song is almost entirely just suck 4/5/6 and then blow 4/5/6 in a 1,2,3 1,2,3 rhythm. Hope that all helps. L C H

Is that a C major harmonica that you're using ?
You're reaally good and really skilled!
Hi Andrei. I'm pretty sure it's either G or A harmonica. I'm playing in 4th position
So for you to use your C major normal harmonica the band would be in A min.
Great! Could you tell me which keys of the harmonicas are you using ? Thank you!
