  • From the Amazing Spider-Man to the Fantastic Four and the Uncanny X-Men, Stan Lee had a penchant for coming up with colorful, larger-than-life characters that were somehow both grounded in reality and the most fantastical thing you have ever seen. His historic run alongside Jack Kirby is what turned Marvel Comics into DC’s Distinguished Competition, but did you know that Stan The Man once crossed the lines to the said competition? Not only that, but he penned an entire mini-series for them, working with some of the best artists in the medium of comic books to re-imagine one of its most-iconic super-teams of all time: the Justice League of America! Starting in 2001, DC began printing “Just Imagine…”, a series of What If-style scenarios where the what if is basically Stan Lee re-imagining DC’s premier team with his own flavor. It resulted in the creation of characters that retain the basic aspects of the JLA, but are otherwise entirely different creatures, and nowhere is it more evident than in the story of Stan Lee’s Wonder Woman. Because while Lee’s Wonder Woman does share some glaring similarities with the original Princess of Themiscyra, her story couldn’t be more different if they tried; and getting a chance to see Stan Lee team up with Jim Lee is a pleasure all by itself. So without ado, this is the origins of Stan Lee’s Wonder Woman - Explored!

WOW, this story is bad ass. I'm hooked. Kinda of expected something extremely cringy (Stan's take on other DC Heroes), but this is really good.

Stan Lee didn’t write write his interpretation of the JLA as Gods trying to be human, he wrote them in typical Marvel fashion except this characters would not be mistaken as humans playing Gods either.

i bet Jim Lee did all the work, and its just in his contract to give Stan more credit then he actually deserve. i admired too, until i learn how scam Kurbey, and other comic makers back then, to take their rights on the characters they made...

I love Marvel Comics, and I do like their DC clones. That being said, I generally dislike characters that were CREATED AS DC clones. I found this Marvel version of Wonder Woman to be a great one. Their Batman wants me to become a fictional supervision in that universe just to kill him. He's a nerfed-down pathetic clown compared to DC's OG Batman. They would have been far better if they just had Black Panther don a bat version of his panther gear. This Marvel clone of a DC character... awesome.

I love Marvel Comics, but they should stick to doing their own thing. The Marvel versions of the Justice League are ok, but far from iconic.

The just imagine miniseries had nothing to do with Marvel Comics. This was a time when Stanley left marvel and did a miniseries for DC comics that’s it. Stan Lee eventually went back to Marvel when marvel comics was bought by by Disney media. That’s one of the reasons why Kevin Fahey started putting Stan Lee cameos in the marvel movies.

@@karlmueller1980 I never knew that. I haven't followed comics regularly in decades, so I'm pretty much out of the loop on a lot of stuff.
Just strike what I said about Marvel and apply that to Stan Lee. He is a great creator, but he was always much better with original ideas than taking someone else's ideas and retconning them.
