    Finally someone that can actually explains the confusing world of VLANs. And not because VLANs are difficult but because CISCO and the rest of the world use different terms on a technology that is a STANDARD. Sunny have created a very didactic way to explain the confusion. Very good job Sir.

    "VLANs are local to each switch, VLAN info is not passed between switches" Clear and simple, helps a big deal. Thanks!

    Sunny, you're such a talented teacher! I believe that aspiring teachers (not only in IT) should watch high quality tutorials (such as yours), and only then decide if they really have it in them!

    This video provides the easiest to understand explanation about tagging, access ports and trunking that I have ever seen. I have set up several VLANs on switches, but never fully understood some of the terms. The video also explains the difference between CISCO terms and generic terms. HIGHLY recommended for anyone starting to setup VLANs.

    Perhaps it’s clarified in an earlier video, but not all switches are created equal; the ones in this series are assumed to be managed, layer 2+ switches.

    after watching at 10 vids claiming they know how to explain it in easy to understand, they start simple then in the middle they over complicate the teaching and already confusing and abstract coz they skip in explaining the mechanism in the tagging and trunking, coz they themselves don't really understand why and what really happens on the ports, they just define this and that happens and skip the why it happened. You're the only one who really understands what you are teaching and in the most easy to understand use of words for a student

    This was the best explanation I found of VLAN on TH-cam, so thank you so much for that. In addition to VLAN membership and tagged/untagged for each port, I also had to set PVID. I would love a clear explanation of what PVID is for. I have a pair of TP-Link managed switches.

    Finally, someone who lays it out in simple terms with an example. THANK YOU!
    You mentioned the 802.1Q adds a Tag, and you highlighted it pink. Also the FCS changed color too but what happens there?

  • @hv20canon
    @hv20canon 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    One thing to emphasize is that IEEE802.1q operates on layer 2. It's not meant to route. So the two VLANs have to be on the same network in order for IEEE802.1q to work - different switches but same network (i.e same subnet). For me this is the most important thing to know but somehow nobody mentions it. Even Mr. Sunny. Because if you don't know this fact then you're mislead to think that IEEE802.1q trunk is some sort of routing technique.
