Two consumate artists, Melissa takes lead and KD (with a powerful voice) knows to pull back on the throttle and blend beautifully, This is what talent and music is about.

These two women are exemplary human beings. They both deserved so much more from the world population than what they got. Merely because of who they were born to be. The short sighted, bigoted, scared of the unknown, ignorant people that condemned them for who they are, should be forever ashamed of themselves. Love them both!!

Its 2020 and as I'm listening to 2 great women sing, I'm wondering why they are not on the radio that much. This is pure talent, 2 voices, 1 guitar. No dancers, no lights flashing, no skimpy outfits, no auto tune bullshit. We need more of them on the radio!! Today's so called musical talent is not even close to these 2.

My mother was a homophobe her entire life until she discovered kd lang. She heard her sing, and was shocked when she saw a live performance in the 90's and could put a face with the voice. It took a couple of years before she stopped the hateful references to the gay community, but she eventually came around, and by the time she died, was openly praising kd without any mention of her orientation. Thank you, kd, for changing my mother's mind before it was too late.

love this performance - love the sound and the jocularity - one thing I consistently notice is kd is always so respectful of the artist she is performing with - she watches them intently and modifies her performance accordingly - it is clear she is there for them - to enhance their performance, and doesn't get carried away with her own powerful voice - of course that is a professional - but more than that kd is very respectful of others consistently! love her! love Melissa!

I told him there's more woman in her than in most of us and told him never to say another word about her in my presence. He came over one day when I had her playing and commented on what a great voice that woman had. I told him it was K.D. He went red and changed the subject. lol.

He's wrong about kd Lang and other lesbian singers, I love to watch her and hear her sing. I saw her on her first appearances on the Johnny Carson show around 1986 - 87 and knew she was gay by her hair and the other women talking at my house. The women at the house were from Alberta and knew who she was. Were all Canadians. I thought her singing was great enough to tape it on VHS and have it transferred to digital. Some of the songs are not on TH-cam.

    • @guarddog318
      @guarddog318 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

@@suave-rider - I would tend to agree... if people didn't make such a point of their sexuality these days.
I mean, hell... I grew up with Elton John, Freddie Mercury, and a whole host of folks that, although most people knew their particular preferences, nobody made an issue of it when it came to the music they produced.
      Especially not THEM.
But these days, the whole sexuality thing seems to come first, like it's THAT which somehow gives them credibility and self-worth. ( and don't even get me started on the whole "gender/personal pronouns nonsense. )
...and it's utterly fucking ridiculous. The same as it is for people like you to call someone else out for speaking their mind while doing the same yourself.
So I ask you... where's your respect for other people? Because I'm certainly not seeing it here.

    • @suave-rider

@@suave-rider - And I'm saying that it's no different than anyone else making a point that they ARE NOT a "breeder", like it actually matters, or somehow makes them something more than those who are.
      There's nothing rhetorical about it.
So go rest yourself. You no doubt need it, since you seem to think you know me. lol

I give Ethridge credit because she recognized the voice of Lang and the possibility of playing with it. Orbison realized it too. Cohen acknowledged the voice, but wasn't up to a duet. Lang, whether she chose to perform in her pyjamas or her bathrobe, takes music or songs to levels their writers hadn't imagined possible.

@@Merrida100 Its not all straight people because when they don't say it you don't know they are straight. My dad accepted it easier, probably because his sister was gay too. But over time, she sees that, this is just my way. I'm so grateful to have my mom accept me and my partner. Not just because she's kind but because she doesn't need the recognition like Melissa does, who is much more aggressive. I don't say this in an offensive way...just being honest and realistic. Scott, your remark makes much more sense than a lot of others which I call "wish fulfillment."

I don't give a shit whether Lang or Ethridge are gay. They could be straight as a flagpole for all the difference it would make to me. Just happens that here they have harmonized in a wonderful way, and I can't help loving the way they do this song. I haven't heard anyone do it better.

    • @OllamhDrab

It matters to those of us that are, especially it mattered at the time. Cause it just so happens these songs speak to us in a way that straight peoples' didn't always do at the time, even if anyone might well relate. We didn't have these songs when *I* was a kid but I remember being in high school and my girlfriend and I relating to a lot of Springsteen about it. It would have mattered more if that song was on the radio then, too, but I still think of that a lot.
Gay *guys* have all that disco and dance music they call 'gay culture,' .....us gals don't have so much and it's not even *about* 'this is issues music,' (cause it isn't.) Some things are just particularly precious and I don't mind saying nostalgic.

@@linanicolia1363 That's the way too she sang with Orbison on his song Crying. I think it's called coloratura. You don't know that you can hear her, but she is there, and in fact she is moving the melody. This is but a part of Lang's brilliance as a singer. I hope one day, perhaps before she dies, she will be recognized for her amazing talent. If you've got some time, take a listen to this particular version of Leonard Cohen's song "Hallelujah" th-cam.com/video/P_NpxTWbovE/w-d-xo.html not that it shows her background, but rather the reverse.
