Gidday from down in New Zealand, awesome video - man I love your comments on "fliers"! Another thing is "you're only as good as the ammo batch you are shooting" has a much greater impact on achieving consistent results than the money you spent on high end gear - so many folks just kid themselves. Good shooting!
I had a crazy nice 6.5 Creedmoor custom built and did a 20 shot group with factory match ammo and it was just under an inch at 100 yards and I was blown away.. this is a huge group in the online world but in real life this rifle is insanely accurate.. real rifle accuracy vs what we like to think are completely different things.. Brian litz has some good discussions about this.. I think the more you learn the more you realize those flyers that you say you did are just statistically going to happen with all the variables..
I think what the rifle can do and how all of us as individuals can perform is wildly different, for most of us anyway. It is nice to know that my rifle with the right ammo and without my input is lights out. Too bad when they say “engage” I am lights on with nobody home.
Depends on the gun and what you are doing with it. Many guns have POA cold bore shift from the first shot you take with the rifle. For a Hunter that generally it is the first shot that matters it is the repeatability and consistency of that rifle and ammo on its initial cold bore shot that matters the most. What shots 2-10 do to that shooter is of a very lessened importance as long as they can depend on the accuracy of that initial shot.
On an air gun forum I suggested posting 20 shots at 20 yards. I think most peoples groups will grow from the pellet on pellet groups they "can" do. A similar take was done on the Hornady podcast called "Your groups are too small". They were suggesting 40 shot groups. I am most of my group size problems. I relax, start a new group and the gun gets better for the next ten shots or so. I tire easily and it is exhausting testing for variables.
I'm 73. In the '60's the writers in gun magazines always shot ten shot groups. Then it seemed to shrink to five shot. I understand. Time. Ammo cost. whatever... But, still... ten shot in the real deal. Good video... good honest truth about our shooting. I do not compete in any shooting game. I have a few very nice three shot that I just stopped shooting just to have it hang on the wall. I know I'm nothing to brag about. Next range trip will be fun to shoot a ten shot... to humble myself.
My stock 10/22 from 30 years ago shoots .25 MOA at 100 all day long using bulk ammo unsupported standing! (Of course its BS, but you know someone is going to say it). This video is 100% TRUTH! I always say if you can average round 1MOA @ 100 yards, your doing pretty darn good! Thanks for sharing your expertise.
Totally agree with this. My Vudoo shoots outrageously good groups sometimes but I look for the average over several groups before I’m happy. Keep up the good work 🍀👍🏻🇮🇪
I feel that even inexpensive guns are pretty accurate nowadays. There is definitely work one can do to the action etc. to improve the inherent accuracy of the rifle but I feel many upgrades are just to make it easier for the shooter to use consistent technique. Shooting my stock Savage 10 it seems ammo selection makes a huge difference. Just upgraded to an Oryx stock though excited to test it.

Very well put sir!!
On the Money !! Most people that shoot 1/4" groups usually do it at the local Pub from their BarStool.
I’ll have to try that range…

Cold bore shift hasn’t been a factor in my experience but indeed on a hunting scenario that first shot is definitely important

Any growth is positive! Keep shooting Mark
Love it! There are people that shoot groups and some that dont....lol.
People need to know the truth about how things are! Thanks for posting
3moa is totally adequate for my shooting. 2moa 5.45x39 guns make me happy.

Great video! well done and concise.
Much appreciated!
The question is. Were those groups with or without a suppressor?
Bwahahaha
Sweet
Anybody can shoot a great group stable!! Lol
