  • We climbed some mountains to prepare for this but climbing 10,800 feet in one day on the Cactus to Clouds hike will forever be a major accomplishment in my life.
    Backpacker.com's list of America's Hardest Dayhikes.
    Several are just long hikes, not necessarily hardest so it makes this hike seem even harder.

      Thanks! I think you'll appreciate the next two videos as well. The trip had such amazingly beautiful views there's a lot of music overlayed over them.

    Much respect Jay - this trail is Baruuuutal and many don't make it. Great planning on your part and thank you for showing some of it. Looked like an amazing day!

      Are you planning on attempting it? It's a doozy of a day and still my highest elevation gain in one day.

    I know that trail well. Harder to skip the tram and hike back down it (and to Ramon ave... not the museum). We used to get a tram ride for "free" from the top, but its changed in recent years.

    • @JayWandersOut
      @JayWandersOut  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah, hiking back down was not on my agenda after all that. It would have been a 40 mile day with 21,600 feet elevation change, one true whopper of a day. It was hard enough hiking down to tram after the summit. They crammed us tight in that tram! I wonder if they'll charge more these days because they can probably only fit 5% of the people if they want 6 feet apart.

    Devil's path in Catskill, great range in Adirondack, pemi loop in NH are my favorites.
    I did attempt in september 2017 solo one day hike Mt Whitney started 230 am. At 13,000ft suffered altitude sickness ...descended as quick as possible.

    • @JayWandersOut
      @JayWandersOut  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hope you can try Whitney again. It's an amazing hike for sure. It definitely helps sleeping at 10,000 ft for a couple of days first but altitude sickness is, from my research, unpredictable.

    great info on the parking logistics/setup, very helpful! how much is it to leave your car parked in the tram parking lot overnight?

    • @JayWandersOut
      @JayWandersOut  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Honestly I had no idea! It looks like reviewers from this year say $8. Not bad really.

    How long did it take you from start to finishing at Tram?

    • @JayWandersOut
      @JayWandersOut  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      We hit the trail at 2:30AM, hit the summit at 1:30pm, hung out for about an hour, then got to the tram at 4:22pm. All together 14 hours.

    Thanks Jay for sharing. On my bucket list, since I am from San Diego and I have family in Palm Desert.

    • @JayWandersOut
      @JayWandersOut  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If your family can hike from the tram station to the top o fSan Jacinto that would be a great outing. That way you'll have a ride back down as well. Cell service was mostly not there at the bottom tram station so hard to call for a ride.

    Too much water! Best to be well hydrated before your hikes and only sip water or suck on a pebble/stone if thirsty while moving; rehydrate afterwards! Enjoy the scenery instead of thinking about the physical!

    • @JayWandersOut
      @JayWandersOut  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes! It's so much easier hiking around the summit without a ton nof snow everywhere. This was the first place where I ever post holed down to my hips. Fond memories. Fortunately the weather was perfect this time! Last time it was super windy and cloudy so we could only see in one narrow section.
