Jörg Widmann Cantata in tempore belli

A message of peace in times of war: On February 2, 2025, Jörg Widmann’s Cantata in tempore belli will premiere at the Elbphilharmonie Hamburg. Conducted by Kent Nagano, the Philharmonic State Orchestra Hamburg will be joined by the soloist Ida Aldrian (mezzo-soprano), actor Jens Harzer, and the Ukrainian Lyatoshynsky Capella. This new work stands as a powerful musical statement against war and for peace.
Cantata in tempore belli incorporates Biblical texts, poems by Hölderlin, Logau, and Claudius, as well as the famous pacifist appeal "Say No!" by Wolfgang Borchert. "May this cantata bring comfort and serve as a reminder of peace," says Widmann. Created against the backdrop of current global events, the work aims to inspire reflection and hope.
