  • Keith Olbermann uses the example of a 19th-century shortstop to explain why the BBWAA still can't get the Hall of Fame elections right.

American Association players - such as Pete Browning - have been slighted , too, since the beginning.

Herman Long ranks 40th in career WAR among SS. A contemporary of his, Bill Dahlen, also not in the Hall of Fame, ranks 5th. Ahead of Derek Jeter, as well as Hall of Famers: Luke Appling, Arky Vaughan, Ozzie Smith, Barry Larkin, Joe Cronin, Robin Yount, Lou Boudreau, Ernie Banks....

Dahlen should be in before Herman Long

I don't see why Olbermann is so hard for this guy. He isn't a HOF player by any measure, sabermetric or traditional. Not even close.

@@peterchoe Because much like Gary Sheffield this year, Herman Long was screwed over by people people who have no right deciding who should be in the Baseball Hall of Fame

Fantastic video. I could listen to KO for hours. Funny as hell and almost always right.

If your saying Larry Walker should be in the Hall of Fame you dont understand the modern career statistical criteria. I would trust Wagner and Mack on Long. Fred McGriff is borderline at best. A flood of old pitchers will get in over the next few years as 300 wins becomes more elusive.

Keith has skills and perspective. He also knows how to puss off vindictive individuals

So much hot air about something that's not that important.
Wonder how long KO admired himself in a mirror before this one...

It's a sports show, talking about sports and players not in the hall of fame.

Not important to you but he's 100% right. The guy belongs.
