    Hey Brian! Great video. I was wondering what your opinion is - what is the optimal temperature to carbonate at? Thanks!

    • @ShortCircuitedBrewers
      @ShortCircuitedBrewers  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks I appreciate the feedback. If you look at a carbonation chart the colder the beer is above freezing. The the lesser amount of pressure you need to carbonate. I generally Target about 34 to 36° for carbonation. 👍🍻

    Do you think the thermowell could be bent, gradually & slowly so that the tip is a good 5 cm away from the coiling coil?

    Would be interested in a video of dumping yeast from the Anvil Crucible using the harvesting kit. What I’m not seeing in any video of conical fermenters is what you do after collecting the yeast from the tube. What’s the next step? Do you wash this yeast of is it normally pretty clean after the trub? How do you store it for the next use? I just made a West Coast IPA with Omega Star Party and would like to save it. On day 4 today.

    How did you get the airlock and rubber stopper out? After using mine one time it’s like stuck. Any advice?

    • @ShortCircuitedBrewers
      @ShortCircuitedBrewers  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      All I had to do was just wiggle it back and forth to get it out. Some of the lids have a sharp edge on them and maybe cutting into the stopper. If that's the case I would probably take a little sandpaper to the edge to dull it down and contact and we'll see if they can get you another stopper if yours did in fact get cut.

    Hey Brian, can a 3gal batch be fermented in this or would I be better off with the smaller bucket fermenter?

    • @ShortCircuitedBrewers
      @ShortCircuitedBrewers  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You could do 3 gallons in this no problem. You might look at the small bucket fermenters from Anvil as another option. 👍🍻

    • @ShortCircuitedBrewers

    Great video Brian, thank you. Please forgive such a basic question, but what hose setup did you use during the pressure transfer on the ball valve? The barb on the valve is pretty big and won’t fit my beer (or gas) line. In the video you solved for that. Thanks!!

    • @ShortCircuitedBrewers
      @ShortCircuitedBrewers  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Just a piece of 3/8 silicone hose over beer line. No clamps just a tight friction fit. Super simple and works very well. Been using it for a couple years now. I just change our the short piece of silicone tubing every once in a while. 👍🍻

    • @ShortCircuitedBrewers
      @ShortCircuitedBrewers  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The delta system has a better cooling option, but the crucible has a true dump valve. The delta bucket has a "clean out" port which doesn't work to dump yeast and trub. Have you seen my review on the Delta?

    • @andrewnunes259
      @andrewnunes259 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ShortCircuitedBrewers I have seen it and it's making me lean towards the Delta 👍 I don't harvest yeast right now since I usually switch up what I brew everytime but am worried that I might want to in the future...buuuut I would be doing the heating/cooling setup as well and since Delta has the option for heat as well that is really nice

    • @ShortCircuitedBrewers
      @ShortCircuitedBrewers  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Haha thanks man!! Well that is a pretty good question. It goes WAY back to my very first RIMS system. I used quick connects on it. And (probably my fault) I bought connectors from different sources and it leaked like hell... After that I've been cam lock ever since. Probably not an issue these days, but I went all in on cam locks and have been since. Hope that helps. Lol maybe not. 👍🍻

    • @ShortCircuitedBrewers

      It's really going to depend on how much the yeast propagates. It also depends on how much trub you wound up with in the fermenter. You could fill up a couple of jars though. 👍🍻

    Thanks - great review! I have the Spike CF5s and one of the really great things about the Spike set-up is they can be pressurized using the gas manifold accessory. This is useful for both trub dumps and pressure transfer of the beer to a keg. Of course if price is a significant factor the Crucible is a less expensive great alternative as well. Being from the Milwaukee area, I appreciate the Spike quality and the added bonus of buying locally to support our economy. Thanks for all you do to educate the brewing community Brian!
