I think you spotted a few of the rare Montana grizzly cows. Be careful.

Is there any type or section of portal or shaft not requiring timbering?

Sure. But this was required by the Forest Service to safe the workings. If you have solid ground, it is not uncommon over the short term.
      to not use ground support.

Great job Keith , is this to keep thieves out , or for safety reasons for inquisitive tresspassers . I see on one of the other comments that you have shingles , that's bad news . I had shingles twice now and the first time was horrible , i was extremely sick , and it took 3 years to get over it completely and then i got Covid and it left me with another bout of shingles but this time it wasn't so bad but i had little pimple size sores on my back which were itchy for about 4 weeks . I hope you are not too bad with it , I think it is a seriously under estimated illness , pretty terrible really , it seems to strike when your immunity is low and you are run down . Take care my friend and look after your health , because that's what's important . 👍👍 Cheers Ned . ✌

Safety from inquisitive trespass. There are significant shafts and dangers here.
The shingles seems to be receding already. Eva works hard to keep me healthy and it seems to be paying off big time.

I came by your website, but really have no idea who you are, only Keith the prospector , Miner, I assume you are part of Bowen Family out of the Virginia City area. I had a friend who was working down there, but alcohol destroyed his life, his name was Ron Krusemark, when he was sober one of the nicest guys and extremely sharp. I let him use my house for free for about a year. Ron was doing work on my Monitor Copper gold property out of Wallace in the St. Joe. Like you I have been knocking rocks , opening and closing portals, getting samples and properties into production. But Found out it was easier to lease to just large companies and let them deal with the Forest Circus.

With a good property, that is a hard plan to beat. Meant more time for fishing!
Don't really know any of the Bowen side as my father died when I was a year and a half old. I know some were living near Salt Lake in the 1970's

Your impact mill is so neat i want one even though im placer. However can you think of a mining machine for placer? Im gone around and around and my ideas not so good so hoping for fresh eyes. Thankyou.

I don't have any placer to experiment with unfortumately. What parameters do you need.

@hardrockuniversity7283 shingles suck. But since you have it hope you have the variety I had and not the one Shari had. I was over mine in about 2-3 weeks. Shari had hers for just over 6 months. But both were painful.

Mine are unpleasant, but not debilitating. Mainly muscle pain. Not mutch itching thank goodness.

It seems that if you put a lock on something, then someone will break in. They stole all the wiring in a 300 ton mill I was involved with. Then started stealing the roofing. Times have changed. Looks like a great crawl tunnel. I don't crawl much anymore. Perhaps like you I am now restricted to canes, a walker, and scooter. Like you always getting questions about how to spile, or timber, or do metallurgy( get a lot of help from people like Dan Kappes in Nevada on this. ,) Where is this portal , looks like could be a lot of places in Montana or even near Helena. Best of luck. Me a placer miners luck, a wet ass and a hungry gut.

About 35 miles North West of Helena MT. Good eye!
I'm still doing well physically for my age, thank goodness. Beat cancer, a stroke, and an aortic aneurysm. Got some after market parts, but I can still swing a mattock and push a wheel barrow. Got a good and loving wife and get to be out of doors virtually every week with her, weather permitting.
      Life is good.
