    Appreciate the video, very straightforward and easy to understand. I have a 96 Ciera which is also dealing with a minor misfire, and this video was very helpful

    Thank you! My mechanic was trying to explain this to me, but we both got frustrated. I have a 96 Olds Cutlass Supreme, but this gave me the basics in plain language. Thank God for you and TH-cam!!!

    @homes24 If you disconnect the front upper wishbone mount(s) you can roll the engine slightly forward pretty easily.

      I have a 1992 grand prix. It the 3.4 twin dual cam. My problem is it only has 1 dog bone in front. Can i still disconnect it and roll it forward the same way as the motors with the 2 dog bones.

  • @APDTY
    @APDTY  13 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    @homes24 Yes as long as you do it carefully, just watch everything as you roll it forward and make sure nothing is being pulled.

    Thanks! Unfortunately our employee who owned this car has since traded it in, so we no longer have access to one of these to do videos on. I don't know of any quick and easy tricks on the heater core of that particular car either :( Good luck with it.

    Correct, this one is a distributor-less ignition system.

    For the plugs on the back, what is the easiest way to get them out? Could you get them from under the car? Or is what you did the only way?

    • @APDTY
      @APDTY  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +scubafire4 THis would depend on the equipment you have. If you have a lift and depending on the exact engine, you can get the plugs from the back but usually you have to disconnect motor mounts and somewhat hang the engine backwards. This is where it gets difficult outside of a shop because in our shop when we do this we also use a engine holder on top of the engine bay.

    You'd do better to pull one wire at a time so that you can replace it in the correct spot with no chance of messing up your distribution.

    First time changing the spark plugs on my '95 Cutlass Sierra. This video was a great guide. Thank you!

    Dielectric grease would keep the wires from corroding like that! And don't forget the anti-seize!

    • @APDTY
      @APDTY  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      yes you are correct, the die electric grease also must be installed on the new wires for the same reason, anti-seize is also good for some models, the newer model spark plugs though are designed to not use anti-seize but probably ok on this model.

    What do you mean the 2 and 5 spark plugs looked the same? Which is what alerted you about the ignition coil.

    • @APDTY
      @APDTY  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Great question, If an ignition coil fails, it fails to fire the spark plug, if the spark plug does not fire, it will not burn the fuel, So once we removed all the spark plugs, we can clearly see that 5 out of the 7 plugs were clean meaning the spark fired and all the fuel burned away. Number 2 & Number 5 spark plug both had unburned residue and is evidence that the coil is not firing. That one coil gives spark to both of those spark plugs. The absolute best scenario is to replace all the ignition coils when one fails as usually the others are not that far behind, also the age and mileage on this car were very high. The customer was trying to get the vehicle fixed and spend as little as possible and that is what we did, but they did need 1 new coil and wires.

    Do you have a video on changing coil packs on a Cutlass Ciera with the 2.5 four cylinder engine? I have a 1987 Cutlass Ciera 2.5 and I am having trouble installing the new coil packs on mine and need some help with this.

      +Auto Parts Direct To You thank you so much. one last thing you mentioned since the 2nd and 5th cylinder spark plug look identical, it is a coil pack problem. would this only happen with these 2?

    • @justafanmarvel9669
      @justafanmarvel9669 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Marco Sanchez i realize this is a very late reply but it was the coil because that particular coil was hooked up to the number 2 and number 5 spark plugs and those plugs ( feeding off that particular coil) both had the same wear issues... so if for example you moved that bad coil to another position and had the number 1 and 4 spark plugs hooked up to it... then those two plugs would show similar bad wear symptoms.

    • @APDTY
      @APDTY  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes the ignition coil that fires number 2 & 5 spark plugs were both in the same condition which was unburned fuel, this unburned fuel is good evidence that the ignition coil is not firing. All other plugs looked teh same and nice and clean meaning all the fuel burned. Once we removed the wires from the coil, we saw even more evidence that the coil was not firing.
