    🦒🌷💃!!! Very impressive, that is a very successful cross, surprised that not many people have it. I suppose Latourias became more popular only recently. I wonder if they continue to do this crossing now, if not it will become a rare orchid. Very lovely and happy orchid in spite of being the feast of minute bugs. Not for long, they will have to say bye bye😂🤞. Have a very nice day yourself, with sun and warmth. Mingi hugggssss amiga mia 🤗❤️😍

      FFF 🤸🏼‍♀️🙌🏼🤸🏼‍♀️🥰💐 I was hoping to get someone to join me, but one had lost their's within the past year and Danielle is very busy at the moment, so, I thought, fine... I will do it by myself, ... it felt weird though. As if I did not do my homework and I should have found someone with it, but... oh well. Thank you for taking the time to watch, meine liebe Freundin! 🥰 Today I pollinated a bloom of it, as per a subscriber who is interested in seedpods... it is not one that he requested, but if he is practicing, then I am going to pollinate what I can, so that he has plenty of material to practice. I really had to concentrate this morning. I pollinated 10 different orchids today... no wind! 🙌🏼🙌🏼 I hope that some of them will take 🤞🏼 no more bugs 🧐... sick of them having their way with my dens! I hope that you had a productive day, amiga! My daughter took King to the beach today... will post a quick video on my community page. Wiener dogs love water and this was his first time on the beach... we need a long leash so that he can go in further without us having to go in ourselves. The water is far too cold for me, even in the summer. Thank you for taking the time to watch, Amiga!! ❤️ Continue to have a wonderful rest of your day! Hugs to you 🤗💐😎❤️

    I absolutely loved this video! It’s refreshing to hear someone concerned with the health of an orchid vs the blooms. I am the same way. I just got my Roy Tokunaga this summer so I’m impatiently waiting for the bloom spikes but now I’m even more excited after seeing your beautiful plant! Thanks again for sharing

      HI Troy 😍💐 welcome! I have not seen you here before, so a warm warm welcome and a massive thank you for being here, for your time watching the video and your kind feedback. I so appreciate it 🫶🏼 This orchid is definitely a wonderful den to have... the blooms lasting an AGE and well, we need some orchids that have long lasting blooms after all the hard work and I hope that your's blooms beautifully for you 👍🏼 the health of the orchids always comes first with me and if that means less blooms, I will settle for less blooms. I feel as though it is 'torture' to have an orchid blooming when it is clearly not in top form... like squeezing the air out of it, so yes, I am glad that I have a like minded grower like you in the comments that feels the same way! Thank YOU for watching 🫶🏼 I hope you are having a wonderful day and once again, welcome ❤️🌸

    What a beautiful orchid! I've just received a Roy Chip (Micro Chip x Roy Tokunaga) and it's so adorable that I also want the larger plant as well. I'm very thankful to have found you as I live in Southern California which also has a Mediterranean climate. It's always good to follow someone with the same climate!

      @NinjaOrchids  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Eileen 😍💐 Back in the day when I was building this collection, I so badly wanted a Micro Chip... love the compact growth habit of that one and how long the blooms last. Could not find one here in Europe. If you like the Roy, you might want to check out the Nora Tokunaga as well 😆 just in case 😉 I am glad that we have the same climate because, you are right, it is much easier to assimilate what is going on when watching videos, so, I really appreciate your comment and your support, thank you so much 🤗 have a wonderful day, Eileen 🌸

Thrips urrrgh....little blighters, although I don’t see them, they have done great damage to buds, flowers and new & old leaves. Asante sana for the great concoction suited for indoor use. Hi Nina,
    I have a Roy T., my daughter gifted it to me early this year, it had couple of blooms. I live in southern California, so I decided to mount it & hang it on a tree in my meditation garden.
    The blooms lasted over six months & now there is few canes coming out.
    It seems happy & adapting to the environment in my meditation garden.
    No expectations, I am just waiting to see how this baby will do where it is at 🙂

      Chleoi 🤩 hi!! Welcome!! 🙌🏼🤸🏼‍♀️🤩💐 I have not seen you here before, so... welcome and thank you so much for watching and leaving me a comment. One that makes me jealous of your beautiful climate, that you can mount this orchid in a tree and let it grow to it's full potential without disturbance! I love the sound of that 👍🏼👍🏼 the blooms do last a very long time, however, I did cut mine off prematurely because the canes were desiccating too much and there must be a problem in the pot if that is the case. I gave it a rest, but, 6 months... that is an amazing achievement and congrats to you! 👍🏼👍🏼 I really think that it is going to love it's outdoor set up 😊 I hope that yo had a great Saturday and once again, Welcome! 🤗🌸

      Thank you dear, yes living in LA is like living in a gardener's paradise, a very nice climate most of the year. It can be challenging for orchids in the summer because it tend to be dry, but I have started a collection this year (because of this never ending Covid, I wanted some challenging things to occupy my attention), many Nobiles, & some Brassias. The majority are mounted on tree pieces & some in pots in wood baskets, & all mistly hanging in my meditation garden. We will see how they will fair out!!
      I am a Begonia collector, most of my Begonias are specimen size & totally thriving, the majority of them are in the meditation garden as well, because of the elephant bamboo & the other trees in that section of my garden the plants are semi sheltered & there is dappled sun, & because it is elevated (my garden is on a sloping hill), it has beautiful breeze, all the ingredients to create magic.
      Cheers to nature 🥂 & have a wonderful week!!

      HI Andre 🤗💐 indeed... a water hog! But I am still concerned, however, so ... today, I gave it a seaweed / calmag soak, exclusive for it only. I have 2 active new growths, so, if the roots of the plant are failing, which could be an option, I am not going to disturb it now, and let the new growths do their thing with their roots. But the spikes are coming off soon! I am not allowing this to continue! 😬 thank YOU very much for watching, Andre! Have a fabulous day 🌸

Weird!! My Tokunaga however has not followed that trend. I am not going to let it bloom this time around, if it tries to, that is. It did not have a good season because of thrips. 😡 you are going to enjoy your blooms for a very very ... very long time 👍🏼 thank you so much for watching, Troy! Hope you had a great day 🫶🏼❤️🌸

    Hi N, so lats are my 2nd passion. These guys like it hot, they should bloom longer than a few months in your climate. The issue might be your set up, I dont have Roy T. but I have Nora T. (why? because of the intense peppering) she's been in bloom since early Dec cause I brought her in at that time. In my climate these guys get watered after they have been dry for a few hours, I dont let the pseudos(or cane 🤓) tell me they are dry but I monitor them closely, when I think they should be watered I wait another 8 hrs and then I soak them. When we get to mid summer they get water every day, your pseudos (or cane) look a little dehydrated to me but I dont have a R.T so Im not sure if thats normal for the plant.

    • @NinjaOrchids
      @NinjaOrchids  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Al! 🤗💐 I agree, my pseudos look dehydrated! I will be removing the spikes shortly... I am pollinating at the moment, so I have not chopped the spikes off, but, it is concerning... Even after a repot, they did not look like this, so.... I am wondering about the health of the roots, but for now, I am not going to touch the orchid, I have 2 new growths under way which will produce new roots, IF that is the problem in the pot. I have someone keen to have seed pods, so... I am going to be pollinating and after that, I will take off all the other spikes. I never had 6 months blooms on my Roy... I like the Nora as well, her markings are much more defined and abundant than the Roy 👍🏼 Thank you for sharing your observations, Al! Good to have a second set of eyes 🧐👍🏼 have a great day 🌸

    Hi Nina, your Dendrobium Roy Tokunaga is beautiful. So what would you do if you have new growth on each side of her? I have Dendrobium thyrsiflorum growing with new growth on both ends of it . Thanks for your time and answer have a great evening.

    • @NinjaOrchids
      @NinjaOrchids  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sandie, hi!! 🤗💐 the fact that these bloom out of other nodes for a couple of years until their nodes are used up, I don't mind having 2 different directions of growth. Same with thyrsiflorum... repeat flowering based on which node has not bloomed yet, right? Eventually it will make for an easy split as well. Thank YOU for taking your time to watch another video!! Have yourself a wonderful day.... no snow and an abundance of spring vibes, I hope! 🌸

    • @sandiesorchids9387
      @sandiesorchids9387 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@NinjaOrchids No, we haven't had any more snow but we usually get quite a bit of rain in spring so that will help to get rid of the last of the snow. Then warmer days and green. I like spring because everything wakes up for another year. How do you place the orchid to the light with two directions of growth?

    Do you give her a slightly drier winter rest?

    • @NinjaOrchids
      @NinjaOrchids  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      HI Richard 😍💐 slightly drier, yes! But, I never let my leca go dry. That has to stay damp, even if the reservoir is mainly empty in winter. This orchid poses a problem for me in winter. It grows a new growth on both leads, I cannot fertilize properly during that time, light is super limited as well, so... its a dance with this one! I am glad to see new growths growing again this time of year, I need to pump them to strength. The winter growths are a little pathetic and don't serve the orchid much. Some new roots, but the growths are puny. Nice to see new growths coming now though 👍🏼👍🏼 thank you so much for watching this video, Richard! I appreciate your suppot 🫶🏼❤️🌸

      HI Richard 😍💐 yes!! Very similar and related as they both have the atroviolaceum as an ancestor. AND, both come from the breeder Roy Tokunaga and both are latouria type dens, so the care is the same. If I did not mention what pests can affect this orchid, in this video, ... mine is susceptible to thrips. All my latouria dens are, so just a heads up when you get your's! Congratulations, btw, on your soon to be newcomer 🥳 she is prettier than the Roy, from what I can tell. I love the bordeaux depth of color in the lip 🤩 thank you so much for watching 🫶🏼❤️🌸

    Multiple bloom spikes per cane is one of the reasons I love Jaquelyn Thomas so much. She can produce three from the apex and three from lower nodes (usually she blooms from the apex and then the lower nodes on subsequent bloomings). And her color and fragrance, magnifique. I don't care that she is a big girl (and I mean BIG), she grows vigorously and blooms several times a year (blooms last about a month).
    Roy Tokunaga used to be a pretty readily available cross here in the US, I don't know about other parts of the world. I haven't seen it offered much lately so it has, perhaps, gone out of production. Surely, though, there is someone out there with it.

    • @NinjaOrchids
      @NinjaOrchids  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Don Miguel 🥰💐 Jaquelyn spells her name wrong 🧐 ... mine is spelled correctly...
      Jacqueline

    • @michaelmccarthy4077
      @michaelmccarthy4077 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@NinjaOrchids My mother also spelled it the correct way. I wish Ms. Thomas had also but you can't have everything.
      Awesome that someone is interested in pods. Usually a selfing takes pollen from flowers on the same plant and pollinates another flower on the same plant but it probably doesn't make much difference. Now are they only interested in selfings or can you get a little creative? Because, I'd take the pollen from intermedia and save it (place in folded paper, put in a ziploc bag, remove most of the air and store in the refrigerator for up to a year). I'd then use it on Dinard, that would have some interesting potential. It might shrink the blooms but if you can get that blue flare on the petals of a Dinard? Whoa.

    • @NinjaOrchids
      @NinjaOrchids  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I will email you a pic of my intermedia... only been open 5 days when the pic was taken and it may take another blooming to get that flare you speak of? It has not shown much of coerulea just yet... but it is a first timer for me, so... When you have time to see your emails, let me know if you think I should save the pollen as you say. He is interested in whatever I can 'throw' at him, which is cool 😃 but self was the easiest at the moment, just to get things going.
