I love schedule videos! Our schedule changes a lot. We definitely don’t always do what’s on the schedule, but I find it very relaxing to make schedules. I have a 12 year old only child. One day when I was writing out a schedule, my husband called out from another room to our daughter, “Hey, what’s Mommy doing?” and she casually said, “Oh, she’s making another dream schedule.” Yep! I’m always searching for that perfect way to make it all work…a mostly unattainable dream! Here’s what’s (mostly) working for us right now for 6th grade. The times are so that I can generally keep us on track. We don’t stop/start at exactly the times as written. Monday mornings-We have a slow start to the week, sleeping in a bit on Monday mornings. Math lesson and math game, Grammar Galaxy (a whole week’s worth), and Fix It Grammar, just the lesson explanation part (then she fixes the sentences independently during part of her LA work during the rest of the week.) Tues.-Fri. mornings: 9:00 Math 9:30 LA (plus a couple of U.S. geography workbook pages) 10:30 Loop-Science experiment, history project/activity, art, and baking 11:30 Writing (but if the loop activity goes longer than an hour, it’s o.k. We just do a shorter writing day, and if we have too many long loop activities in a row, then we will take off a day from Loop, or just do something really short, so that we can catch up on writing.) 12:00 Lunch with science curriculum videos and history audio book and videos Mon.-Thurs. afternoons 1:00 Instrument practice 1:30 Exercise together 2:30 Depending on the day, we leave around 2:30/3:00 for after-school lessons and activities Friday afternoons-Pool or hiking or sledding with another homeschool friend Silent reading-after we get home from after-school activities, before dinner Read aloud-after dinner Saturday-Math (Yep, I’m that Mom! Math is hard for her, so short lessons six days a week works best.); Homework (that’s what we call any LA/geography or writing that didn’t get done during the week…a little incentive to work hard during the week and get it all done.); silent reading; and instrument practice. Happy homeschooling! Cheers!
Every time I’ve ever told someone that I’m an idealist, they looked at me like they had no clue what I was talking about - as if realist, optimist, and pessimist were the only options! 😅
I love this! Having a cut-off time is genius! Also nice to hear about some other mammas NOT being up at the crack of dawn! Lately my body wants to be in bed until at least 7, too, and I can't get time with the Lord before my kids get up because my 5 and 7 year old are usually up before me, and/or my 2 year old still nursing, still co-sleeping baby wants to have more "nursey". I'd have to be up at least at 5:30 to make it worth it, (and that's if I can get out of the bed without waking said baby) and every time I've tried my body hates me for it, lol. I can pray and be in the Word continuously, but if my body is sleep deprived my fuse will still end up being short, and I'll be wanting to stuff my face all day long (that's how I handle sleep deprivation, lol). So my time with God usually starts out as a quick arrow-prayer, then sometimes after serving some breakfasts, I'll lock myself in my room, and do some serious prayer for about 5 minutes. My personal Bible time usually happens at night when everyone's in bed, or just whenever I can snag a few minutes here and there. So thank you for helping me feel less guilty! And thank you for sharing your update. God bless you and yours ❤
@@JoyfulNoiseLearning "This season" has been going on for about 16 years, lol. (I have 6 children) But our 2 year old is our last. So soon, after I get up the courage to fully wean her, I'll be able to move into a new season. I'm scared, yet excited at the same time. I know I'll miss these days, having a bunch of littles, but I'm looking forward to a bit more freedom in some regards, once the baby and toddler stage has fully passed. Thank you for so gracefully allowing me to share my heart. The You-Tube community is my therapy. I love all you gals 💗
We’ve done some schedule re-working as well to make our days flow better. With our current commitments (including my own), we’ve had limitations on how much we can shift and change, but I’m planning next year and am so excited about some changes that I think will be really great for our family.
I never implemented chores because it’s hard for me to give up the control of things being done “perfectly”. But my children (4 and 8) saw the template and were almost inspired to help more. We customized it to our household functions and their age. We started an hour ago and I absolutely love it. Can’t wait to see the benefits of this overtime. Thank you so much for always sharing. My homeschool was missing this so that I didn’t feel like I was doing everything on my own.
So glad I could encourage you! Thank you for sharing this with me 💗 I can totally relate about keeping control and doing things a certain way 😬 We can do this, mama. Give the kids some responsibility and train them how to help us care for the house 🏡
Thank you for being one of the first videos with a later morning start. I appreciated how real you were. So many of the homeschool channels I follow, which I love, all have a very early start. 9 o’clock is about when we start school as well. So many of your tips I found a helpful!!
Your kids are so similar to my daughter! I have to wake her up at 8:30 or 9 every morning and have been trying to find a way to work out schedule around this. Definitely going to look for that schedule download link. Thanks!
I just love how real you are, Ashley! ❤ it's super hard for us to start super early when it's so dark outside, too! Ps: I love your hair style! Looks super good! ❤
Ya'll thought you slept in late, we are super late risers mainly because mama is a night owl. Daddy works late and we have always had late jobs our entire marriage so sleeping in is our jam. We don't even get around until 11is. The children have some outside activities So like you we have to skip some morning stuff sometimes. So we are doing school all day long with lots of breaks. Leave for P.E. and come back and do school. Leave again for dance class and come back and do school. It's different every day but Monday is our day where we don't have to go anywhere and I absolutely love it!!!!!! We do lots of school on Monday and love staying home!!!
Idealist here and easily distracted. 🤦🏼♀️ I'd love your Canva template, looks like a great flow! Thanks for this video. We are busy Sunday church family too and also realized that getting out of the house on Mondays just caused so much more tension that moving our outing to Tuesday! 🎉
Hello! Glad you're back! My kids are about the same age as yours. My oldest goes to public school though. Her choice. I do home school the other two. I work out of the home, so my schedule is a little odd. I guess I'm more of an unschooler, but I do try to get them to do lessons as much as possible.
We just implemented homework time as well for if they didn’t get their daily things done from fooling around. They do it with dad lol. I always just let it go and we would do it the next day but I’m holding them accountable now.
My oldest 3 are almost identical ages/grades to yours, but I also have a 4 yr old and 6 month old. We've implemented a morning basket this semester and it has helped us get SO much more done! I need to get a better rhythm/schedule for the rest of our day though..after morning basket, it's chaos
Yes a perfect and pretty plan and then not sticking to it ;) but that's the ideal. I have heard putting the responsibility in their court and putting a time stamp on it.... But my 3 are 8 and under and still need me for mostly everything.... Unless I give them busy work they can do independently but I don't like giving unnecessary busy work.
