you really need to try a pair of Canada West Boots, Moorby line. I think you will be much more impressed with the quality of these boots rather than Kodiaks.
Don't forget Viberg. Kodiak is a garbage brand for boots. Most of the Canadian brands went down the toilet when they started offshoring their production.
Just some background here, and I’m not knocking the quality of the name’s modern guise, no matter where it’s made, but Kodiak was a workboot model name under the Greb Shoe Co. (Kitchener, Ontario- long gone) before it became just another brand under a multinational outsourced overseas, much like the Sorel winter boot (ex-made by AR Kaufman also in Kitchener, and also long departed-downtown factory has been loft condos for years now ). The original Kodiak was designed for the trades, tan-coloured double-layered leather with thin foam insulation sandwiched between for the uppers (never provided much warmth), and a salmon coloured stitched-on hard-wearing hard but flexible rubber sole. A black combat version with a coarser tread was made for the Canadian Army till the mid 1990’s or so, up to the company’s demise. I still have a pair of Kodiaks which I bought new at age 14. I’m now 60. Beat up, creased and with its smooth-worn tread, I wear them now only occasionally.
Interested to hear what your top pick at double the price was from the rover ii? I'm 4 years into owning these and am desperate to find another pair! So far there's nothing that I was able to find that provides 400g warmth, and pull on/off ease. I refuse to do laces in the winter!
The Rhode II look great for me, as a graduating college student moving from Texas to urban Northern Europe needing to replace 5+ year old hiking boots. For the price, I’d be happy to get 2-4 years out of these, as they will keep warm and grip ice but not look utterly utilitarian.
For me I'll stick with the TIMS. But for growing teenagers I'll pick them up a pair especially for the price. Great review. I don't mind supporting our neighbors.
Thanks for the A+ review. I was looking for a review on the Rover II but the title didn't say so. I wonder if you had 2 separate videos and each roughly 4 mins, with the title of the boot in the name of the video, if that would fare better. I didn't know that this was exactly what I was looking for until a minute into the actual video. The video is amazing and I will get the boot because of it. Cheers man!
Hey , great video, love the review. I somehow had assumed that the Magog boots were Goodyear welted boots , thanks for clarifying. I think I'll steer clear of these ones, maybe the Dayton service boots someday.
@@BootSpy 😂 I'd love to hear about them sometime. MEC advertises a small Canadian company that sells higher quality hikers. I always wondered if they were any good. Don't recall the company name.
I still have a pair of Kodiaks I bought at age 14 in 1977. Alas like every other well known product name from decades ago, it’s now just a name. The original Kodiak was created by Greb , of Kitchener Ontario, which shuttered years ago, bought by some conglomerate and made off shore. Same thing as “Sorel”, a model of winter boot started by AR Kaufman, also of Kitchener.
Great intro!!! Finally something fresh

The really good "Canadian" boots are made by Canada West. Really well made and well priced.

Came here just to +1 Canada West

My kodiak boots are super high quality and I love them. Great for working and not just for show.

Any chance of getting a review of Canada West Moorby? Thanks
I'll check them out and see what the deal is!
A 2801 or a 2845 :) then Rose Anvil can cut them in half!
Question: I usually wear 9.5 or 9 wide, which size would you recommend for the Kodiak Rover II?
I would go 9.5--they fit pretty snug. and if they're a touch loose, you can always wear thicker socks, but I think you'll be good with the 9.5

Great idea, I'll consider adding the name of the boots into the title to make it easier for folks
Have you done a review of the Thabe or Clayburn boots from Kodiak? I'm interested in those, but not sure about the quality.
I'm start feel comfort watch your review.
I have the Kodiak Dundonald that has served me well so far. It has the Vibram sole as well
How much were they or did I miss that part?
Price varies, but they're both under $200. You can get the Magog past season for under $100 right now

Yeah, probably better to save up for some of the high quality stuff if you've already got a bit of a collection going
Just a reminder Viberg is Canadian.🇨🇦🤘😎
Vibergs are Canadian 🤪
Carlos E. Martinez Ramos and they sell for stupid prices. I'll take Whites or Wescos.
@@Kingfisher1215 I didn’t recommend them, I’m just saying they’re Canadian.. so this is not nearly the best Canada can do 😂
@@Kingfisher1215 take a look at atelier buck 😍
Carlos E. Martinez Ramos gotcha. And yes Vibergs are much better than these boots.
Canada must have some decent boot makers.
Canada has tons of incredible boot makers---just went a bit cheeky with the title!

I’d argue Vibergs are Canada’s boot but those are overpriced so.
Canada West are proper quality for much cheaper
I am in my 60s. These are not a new boot. I had a pair when i was in high school back in the 70s.

Um hello... Viberg
Unimpressed unless they can be bought for about $80.
