@@brooke2003 well at least he’s honest. 😅 You think doctors would spend 10-12 years+ after high school taking hard AF courses & working for peanuts if they only wanted to ‘help people’ 😒🤷🏻‍♂️ They all say that, but realistically 10 out of 10 doctors 🥼 go into it for the money and stable income.

@@jasmineworld6175 You need to contact an optometry school in USA. Their admissions department could advise about being accepted as a transfer student. I feel life is too short to put yourself through that much misery. Best wishes.

I am a retired optometrist. I graduated in 1981 from SCCO. Going to optometry school in 2018 is not worth the pain or expense. Admission to optometry school requires 3.3 GPA, biology or chemistry degree. An additional 4 miserable years as an optometry student leaves you $ 200,000 in debt. Then you have to pass the National Boards which are outdated minutia memorization. Most optometrists are not going to make enough money to pay off student debt until they are 40 years old. You would be doing well to earn $ 100,000 (without benefits) in your first year out of school. Do the math! Health insurance doesn't cover most optometry services. You will be treated like a technician by ophthalmologists and treated worse than a B.S./ RN at HMO's. Optometry schools are painting a picture of a optometry profession that does not exist in the real world. Well, you have been forewarned...

Before discount optical chains dominated the landscape, the profits from selling/dispensing glasses and contacts provided a good income for optometrists. Professional fees from eye exams never "floated the boat". Now, poor quality discount eyeglasses are sold by shoddy " 2 for the price of one" opticians. When patients experience problems with the poor quality eyeglasses they bought they return to the optometrist wanting them to fix it. Insurance plans are progressively reimbursing optometrist less. (Obamacare doesn't compensate optometrists adequately for treating glaucoma or other eye diseases). My son is a commercial airline pilot. He gets paid more, has paid health benefits , paid vacations and free travel. He graduated aviation university at age 22 years. He had to work cheaply for a few years but he wasn't paying tuition in grad school...Y.all been warned.

Ophthalmology requires another 3 years. You will be at least 30 years old getting out of training. Obama care has ruined health care... good luck but the money is not worth the expense, debt or stress. Medicine used to be a good field but no longer.
