Storyline:
Homestate depicts a week in the life of a seemingly run-of-the-mill family. Harvey struggles to keep his new business afloat, at any cost, amidst the uncertain economy. Crystal is a full-time mom who keeps Pearl, their 10 year old daughter, on schedule and manages the household responsibilities. When Josh, Crystals troubled brother, shows up with no place to go, the balance of their routine is thrown into disarray. This unexpected addition to the family sets off a series of events that exposes underlying issues, inadequacies and suspicions which threaten the foundation of their family ties.

The down and out brother turns out to be a nice guy and the unlikeable husband who's all about God turns out to be the opposite. However neither are without their faults. Good uncomplicated movie . Didn't expect the ending . Made me think . ......a lot about my own life's good times and not so good ! However finding Jesus late in life makes a difference knowing HE loves me whatever , whenever , where ever !.That's so comforting . God bless those who are struggling at present .

I really enjoyed this movie. The acting was very good, especially Pearl. She perfectly portrayed a pre-teen. So sweet, caring, funny and curious. The adults were very good too. However, I feel like I missed something at the end because it left me asking too many questions and wanting more; hoping for the best outcomes for
all.

Me too, like the movie should have had more,like the sister made amens to Josh,sister knowing the truth of the affair of the husband but then may y not thru the brother . I hated for Josh to be sleeping in the tree house,them having a beautiful home.Not very happy with the ending!!!😢

It leaves the veiwers to think whatever comes through their minds.I liked to believed Josh returned to his girlfriend ,and the husband of his sister realized he was wrong having and afair and his wife felt it and their little girl accepted that her uncle Josh left.
Moral of the story: recognize your own mistakes & don't judge others by their mistakes, instead just love them.

Thomas, I've been reading comments after seeing the film. Sad some are judgemental, I gurss that reveals some hurt needing our prayer. Maybe it is a guy thing to understand you reflect and tell he rest of the story yourself. I like to believe the best because God's love and forgiveness overcomes all. Cliff hanger? Yes. Happy ending. Everyone needs to be responsible for themselves and their own actions, because God is a God of JUSTICE’!! And it always comes back around!! Evil never wins. Good always trumps out evil!
The story is about relationships, family and pretense. Dont we all have that. The outcome is when Josh realized his mistake. The brother in-law realized hes not the perfect husband and father. We, as humans, before we take the plank out of someones eye, you first must take the plank out of yours.
Funny how people come into our lives to change things for the better.. And go. They don't stay long . Just enough to make you see clearer.. I enjoyed the movie thank you.. 😊

It was a really good movie! Twist toward the ending but you could easily assume each of the characters chose the path to redemption and the road to restoration from the implications.

Great movie!! It's crazy how someone has a perfectly loving and caring family at home, but they have that deep lust for something new, different, and exciting! Thing is ... that lil bit of fulfillment they get doesn't last long and its certainly not worth risking the greatness you already have!!

That is so true. When "SIN" has dominion over u it can lull u into lewd, lascivious and gluttonous type of lifestyles that can put u and those around u in jeopardy. Its like throwing a pebble in a pond. It has a ripple effect it touches all sides....sides u can not see.

Excellent storytelling. A contemplative piece. Had me thinking each step of the way. Reflecting on my own choices and decisions in my life.

I'm not sure how this is a faith movie, it seems like Josh ended up closer to God than the rest of the family. They might want to start thanking Jesus during grace, rather than Mother Earth

This is a "faith movie." Does not necessarily mean a "christian" movie in the Holly/Bolly/Nollyood scheme of things. Harvey was a hypocrite. So was Josh. One recognized that and tried to change. The other, well...
Reminds me of the Pharisee and the Publican in the Bible. Jesus despised Pharisees. We who call ourselves "Christians" should learn and be honest in private and public. God sees the heart and motives, loves us but WILL judge us. Thoughtful movie!

One said he got away with cheating on her....don't think so. His conscience got the better of him at the end....left to your imagination. Those that have no sin, that shall throw the first stone. There are so many things in man´s hearth, yet he wants so litle to knows his own misery. Great movie. Enjoyed to the last minute n was expecting more. Sad. Harvey thought his brother in-law would share about his secret but instead opened up about his own. Am sure lots of Harveys out there will learn a lesson.. Secrets never last.

@@martinglasser6025 It was an ultrasound of his baby. Having been in the same spot Josh was in in my life, I knew immediately when Pearl almost grabbed it exactly what Josh was hiding.
Like how the guys in the men's group accepted Josh but were restrained with Harvey. His daughter and all knew something was up with her Dad, though she seemed to loved him....Uncle Josh easier!

Fantastic movie!!
Didn't expect the end, it was like missing and unresolved content too... and I thought a lot about the ex-ray that was in the envelope that it may show that he had some kind of disease and was going to die, but they didn't let us know what it was it about, suspense....

I really enjoyed this heartfelt movie. So relatable! The only scenes I wish they would have done wiser are the 2 where cocaine is used. It does change a person..and not to the better. Here it is shown like it would not much influence them. 🤔

Wonderful movie, so touching, the mom & pearl were amazing. Harvey pissed me off , Josh was in so much pain just trying his best. Love that God, prayers & faith we're a big part of it. In this stupid crazy world, we need God more & more.🙏🙏🙏
How the mom was amazing? Instead of staying at home doing nothing she should have go around with the leaflets ,it would safe her husband a lot of time and trouble. Instead she just wasted her time.I found it disgusting when she complained to her husband that he worked to late, maby if she took some pressure out of him by helping him, he would be less stressed and distanced. I know I would get involved in the bussiness, at least for couple of hours a day when the kid was at school,but I guess in yhr US women just prefer to wonder around the house while their husbands are overworked and overstressed.

This movie made me feel like I hiked all day up a mountain only to reach a cliff at top that drops abruptly off & leaves no place to go.
...it spent too long on mundane activities only to reach a huge issue that doesn’t really get closure in the end. The theme of sin & forgiveness is only partly handled with no respect of the depth of pain about to erupt when the truth comes out. Disappointed.
LT, maybe the movie is endless intentionally, so, whoever have the same situation may choose how to end it, but with the look of Harvy's smile, while looking to his wife and daughter, i think he comes to his senses

LOL at all the comments complaining that it wasn't a Christian movie. I'm an athiest and I enjoyed the film. Had there been no payoff at the end of the film, then I would have felt like the "real life" portion in the middle was meandering and pointless. But the point that the film makes is that the father is absent from participating in the family while the ne'er do well uncle is participating in the family part even though he's an outsider. Family is more than just DNA - it's effort and what you make of it. The other point of the film is to show the frailty of us all and that we do make mistakes, sometimes very large ones. How you respond to those mistakes defines character. I feel like at the end, both Josh and Harvey are in better places because they understand the mistakes they have made and decide to learn and grow from them. Not everything needs to be always explicitly stated.
Not a lot of excitement or explosive parts to the movie but a good plot. I really enjoyed it!

I think she knew her husband was cheating. That's why she was so defensive when her brother made the comment about him always working late.
For me English movie is an outstanding pathway to be advanced at English. I have been listening English for 2 years, partially focusing on grammatical rules,and I have improved my English journey. What I like is drama movies rather than action movies. Learning English is really an arduous job for me to understand their accent and most times they speak fastly, that is completely opposition to my native language, Bangla.
I would like to see a strong father who can lead his family. He’s absent so isn’t tending to their spiritual needs.

Hmm...that grace they said at the table (the little girl). It had no mention of God, but instead it was in worship/praise to the sun and the earth. Quite strange...smh We must be even more vigilant...not everything labeled "Christian" is truly Christian.
It said something in the second line about “Him” who makes them strong and helps them grow…I caught that too…
Excellent acting by all! Good movie even though the end is left unsaid which was a bit disappointing after watching the whole movie. One can assume that everyone turned things around but it would have been nicer to have seen that played out.

Seems like he owed that to his sister. And probably Harvey would hv been better off confroning his behaviors and owning them.
I guess Josh simply taught through example before heading back home.
It would've hurt her and destroyed her marriage. Her brother didn't want to hurt her. The husband was given a chance to do right. The brother let him know that he needed to do better.
