This sounds less like a 16 year old longing for what she doesn’t know, and more like a grown woman looking back on her life with regret. Both versions are beautiful, but this just has an underlying sadness to it that I really appreciate
Good observation. When sung by Jodi Benson theres a theatrical and musical sense where she sounds so youthful and yearning forward. Whereas we get Chely singing as a grown woman who's yearning the other way around and almost seems as if she would be Ariel had she not pursued her dreams. As an adult, I think we can really relate to this sense of regret and missed chance scenario.
@@dannysimion agreed with all of that. Would also add that the fact that this version plays at the end of the sequel could be seen as Ariel herself looking back on her life. Not that she’s regretting her choices, but just looking at what she gave up with a newfound maturity

I bet Jodi Benson is looking back at this experience and remembering all the voice actors she's worked with back when she's the one who voiced the start of the Disney Renaissance era. Wow how time flies by.
In my eyes, Jodi Benson's version of Part of your World might be the most memorable and iconic version of the song. But Cheryl Wright's Part of your World 2 is the most beautiful and heartwarming version of the 2.

Chely brings out the true essence of this song. I am more drawn to this version than the actual one sung by Ariel in the movie and The Little Mermaid happens to be my favorite Disney Cartoon of all-time.
This is my favorite rendition of the song. It sounds very smooth and deep. Miley Cyrus also recorded this song for a DisneyMania album but it was awful.
I like this version. So stripped down and a little country twang to it. Chely Wright's vocals are so soft in the beginning and than firm towards the end. :)
You know this version is pretty rockin awesome, but I like the original even more. Nothing can compare to Jodi Benson's amazing voice. Also the original has more emotion, this one is more of a casual song. But it still sounds great!
Jodi's version was meant to be a musical style since thats how Ashmen and Menken originally wrote it. Chely's version is an interpretation and a cover of it. She's from a country music background so you get a more mature sound to it as opposed to the musical innocent charm from the animated version. I wonder if 11 years later you might enjoy Chely's version.
I didn't know that Chely Wright did sing "Part of Your World" in the end credits of The Little Mermaid 2: Return to the Sea, but hey, that was my old childhood song.
I hope the song will be used as an end title song for the live action remake of The Little Mermaid by Trisha Yearwood as dedications to Pat Carroll and Olivia Newton John.
I would like to respectfully disagree. You can argue that Jodi may have more of an emotional feel because of your connection with the character (Ariel) in the movie but I find the emotional appeal of Chely and Jodi to be equally powerful. Different strokes for different folks I suppose.
I got laughed at back when I was living in Camden at the library when I was singing and some kids was laughing and mocking me and one person posted the video on Facebook and wrote 15 mean comments instead of nice comments about me and I was embarrassed and upset about it no one likes my talent I like to sing a lot while listening to music and singing along and dancing too any positive advice for me about my situation please I need a new friend someone who’ll accept me for who I am and not judge me just because I’m different from other people please
Finally a respectful cover of the original, yes its obviously rearranged to be more pop-ish and less Broadway sounding but its beautiful rendition in its own right, unlike the Miley Cyrus and Syke Sweetnam covers that rape the song and ruin it
ch2010ize Miley and Skye are in DisneyMania albums. DisneyMania is made for covers in different genres based on the singers. I think Skye is so pop punk, but she isn't bad. Her voice sounds great. Miley is the one who sucks! Her voice is terrible in the cover.
