What an incredibly moving part that was with Cliff. It is wonderful that resources such as this exist for people like him. And not just him but for us all.
@TheThinkingAtheist, Believe me, brother, what you do matters. I'm watching this almost a year after it was broadcast, yet it still has MUCH relevance. Since I accepted the fact that i'm atheist, many of my friends have actually questioned their beliefs... & are moving toward a secular and even atheist viewpoint. Thank you, from the bottom, top & sides of my heart. You are a GOOD person. :)
You are making a positive difference in this World - your voice and moral support for those of us in this struggle is invaluable. I sincerely hope that you will remain intrepid in this, your greatest Honor.
As long as you keep doing these podcasts, I'm happy. You're honestly the only subscription that I regularly check up on to see if you've posted new content. Much love.
I'm a recent new listener to your podcasts, and I'm enjoying the hell out of them. I love The Atheist Experience to death, but what I think feels so unique about your show is how incredibly down to earth and relatable it is with some domestic issues that other shows deal very little with. I've fairly recently come out to my mom about my atheism. I don't think she's completely accepted it. There was some crying, wondering "what she did wrong", but we've grown pretty civil on the subject.
@joshthesarge Josh, Thank YOU for this great Country and your immeasurable contribution to keeping it 'Blessed.' You never see 'God' getting blown to pieces, killed or maimed for us. No God ever stands up in a Humvee blowing away our enemies firing on our soldiers as they drag their buddies out of burning Bradleys. You Bless America, Josh. Thank you.
First podcast of your I have listen to. I enjoyed it very much. Also that one guys story about the kids. Made me cry. I'm sorry for that guy. Really can not image the pain.
Love the podcast and the videos.. Like that one caller said - there is just so much of this now on YT and the internets, its great! Please don't stop contributing, yours is one of the best podcasts out there.
"I'm tired of my mind, my body" lol I feel the same & I'm tired of the worlds BS, especially when feeling this world is a waste of its not existent time. Guys like me, you & true spirits are the "Neos" of our time still coming after a fleet of GHAD beings! From my Papyrus & Glyphs in Khemet to the present.......same cycle different time! We must not repeat the mistakes of OUR mothers/fathers. Great stuff, love honour respect & peace to u n urs.
The Whatever Show was awesome! (More, please.) And don't worry if you can't make as many shows-- the shows you do make get copied and spread far and wide and will be viewed for many years. Others will learn from your clips and make make their own and spread the information further. You are planting many seeds that will bloom and produce many more seeds.
There are no words I know that can convey the sence of sorrow I feel when I hear the story of the ex-pastor. "I'm sorry for your loss", just feels so inadequate.
Hey TTA! I am 17 years old from Denmark, and I have a hobby of writing poems, short prosas and what not. About a month ago I started a blog on blogspot just to see if my work would attract any attention or maybe even a solid fan base since I there have been people telling me how really good I am at writing and rhyming. I just wanted to say that creative people don't need religion to do what they do. I play music as well, and it's pure feelings and entertainment value that drives me!
Keep posting dudesky, this is wonderful to listen to as i paint. An inspiration indeed. What you do does matter. Lucky for me i live in Prague where the Atheist percentage is roughly 80% ... so if you ever need to escape, then come to Czech Rep.
More than eight years after this broadcast, I will echo some of the comments I have read. I am glad you didn't stop completely. I am similar to the message from a TH-cam user that you read. Although I wasn't raised in a religious home as I think that user said, I was raised in a home where my parents didn't try to make either my sister or myself believe the way they did. From early on in my childhood, I remember hearing my father refer to TV evangelists as "those churchy mother fuckers," but never mocked my sister who was attending church from an early age...on her own. She and my brother in law still are every Sunday "bible thumpers," but neither she nor my father mock the other's thoughts on the existence of gods. I think my mother is more of a believer than he is, but neither of them would care if I told them "I don't believe in god." They definitely wouldn't react in the way your family has with you or the way a number of callers' families. I am thankful for that, but still think it is necessary for people like you and Aron Ra to do what you do to let them know it's okay to be the person they want to be and not what their parents/family think they should be.
Definitely do more of these more open ended podcasts. Not that the more structured ones are bad, but the open ended ones just really show a side of people you can't get in a structed podcast.
I understand what you mean about the music. I have a friend who plays bass in a Christian metal band, and I've also become friends with his bandmates. I enjoy their music because they're really good musicians. One of my friends put it really good; "They're too good to be a Christian band." I've gone to their concerts all the time, and I've found some people there that, even though they're in christian bands, they're really good musicians.
You and Sam Harris are my top 2 speakers on the subject. I can listen to either of you for several hours. Followed closely by Christopher Hitchens. Then Dawkins, Dennet, Barker, and Thunderf00t round out my study. (Also, on the subject of evolution, I resonate with Kenneth Miller's teaching, although he is not atheist).
Cliff who I'm sure you all liked and felt for came to the chat after the podcast had ended and said thanks to Seth. He also commented on a post which a member of the TTA group on facebook posted, saying thanks for all the support etc.
Wow, as horrible as it sounds I'm almost never effected by grief stories. But my heart goes out to that guy, I've never been a believer & I don't have any kids so I cannot even begin to imagine what he has been through.
You're into orchestral soundtrack music? Awesome! That's my favorite kind of music too! I don't really know any other "soundtrack fans", so it's great to finally hear there's someone else out there. :) I also greatly enjoy Verdi's Requiem, which could easily be described as religiously inspired, but the fact is Verdi was a nonbeliever! It just shows you don't need to be religious to enjoy - or compose - religious music.
The clip "Welcome to this World" was also used in TROM ("The Reality of Me") - the longest documentary ever (over 12 hours - but seperated into chapters)... just search for "TROM documentary" on the Internet to find it.
Seth likes music that takes him on a journey. Ever listened to Oxygene? Early electronic-generated. Jean-Michael Jarre. You'll very likely have heard parts of it, but the full set is six parts and just under fourty minutes long. Instrumental (despite no actual instruments) and without vocals. Somewhat similar is of course the Tubular Bells set by Mike Oldfield. You'd likely recognise it as the theme from The Exorcist. It's not stuff you'll hear on the radio. I'd love to find more along these lines.
Not only are catholic schools publicly funded in Canada but they are often BETTER funded then the public schools. The public high schools I attended were struggling financially. My younger sister attends a catholic high school (same district) which has flat screen TVs in every class room, it's own wind turbine, new text books EVERY year, and so on. I can't even remember half of what she's told me about that place.
Caller #2: I was a soldier in Iraq back in 2005-2006... What happened there caused me to lose my faith as well. I was a devout Christian prior to my deployment and came home an agnostic (and eventual atheist). I'm incredibly sorry about your son. Please feel free to message me if you need someone to talk to. Take care, man.
I know I've said this before, but living in northern California, we don't seem to see the kind of 'Anti-Atheist' sentiment that seems to be in a major part of the rest of the country and it's eye opening to get the perspectives from this podcast. Here in Silicon Valley, the Bible Thumpers are very much in the minority. This podcast brings a different reality to the table, especially if I had to move to a different part of the country.
As I tuned in for this episode, I couldn't help but notice that the "A" in the light bulb of the logo is reminiscent of the Star Trek insignia from The Next Generation series. *my inner geek grins*
I wonder if, perhaps, spending eternity burning in hell is better than spending eternity rehashing these same arguments over and over again. "I don't know. I'm not Dr. Phil." That's a good thing. Personally, I think this format was awesome. I would like to hear a podcast about how things are improving for atheists in the US, and elsewhere in the first world, as well as how this compares with the third.

Just like Easter Bunnies, Mother Geese, Tooth Fairies, Santa, etc.they are all fairytales made up by Man. No matter how frustrating, this needs to happen.
@DarkOrion09 Well, what I was agreeing with and/or referring to was that atheists HAVE a community whether we admit it or not. It's not so much that any of us purposely TRY to "group" atheists, but becuz we DO share a lack of belief, make the same arguments in debates and, often times, go thru similar experiences due to our atheism, there is a comradery amongst us and I don't think we should be so allergic to the idea.
love the show. wondering if other people make video's and send them to you? might be a good idea to get some other videos up? youd have to check them first obviously.
@SoullessConviction I was still wiping away tears when I heard that, and busted out laughing too. But damn... who can I tell it to??? It is extra fun when a clever comment like that just blindsides me. And that one did. LOVE it. (Cliff Schrauger)

@TheRougeHawksClan Because there's no point in pondering it farther. We have no idea what happened before the Big Bang, and we have no possible way to ever figure it out. If you want to think about it, feel free to. I've thought long about it, and later realized that we can't ever know for sure either way, just look at what's happening now.
omg.. as he was listing the arguments at the beginning that the christians say over and over i was like "ahhhhhhhh he mentioned them allllllllll exactly!!!!! same ole shit over and over"
LOL WTF. I know that Google ads sometimes put up somewhat "related" ads that almost have something to do with what you're watching... and here I'm watching The Thinking Atheist... and I get an ad for "Learn The Secrets Of Godlike Power" a youtube channel by E.A. Koetting... freaking weird!! Seth, I think you should check this guy out and maybe for another one of your cult podcasts, really rip into this guy! HAHA
Yes its grown far beyond you, its much bigger than you... it gives you goosebumps, all of this is evolving. Evolving, but towards what my friend. Towards what? Scientists can't prove what happens before the big bang because it's simply beyond us and our physical ability, thats a fact. I agree with you. But I find it strange how you draw the line there and don't like to ponder it longer. It becomes a matter of: I have dignity to admit I don't know. But then, that's how atheism enslaves the mind.
@jmlew ... (cont.) I loved Jesus, but there were certain things I never accepted. That homosexuality was a sin (I'm straight btw), that Adam & Eve or Noah's Ark made sense, the usual issues. I was as devout as I could possibly be when I got saved & baptized when I was 14. However in my late teens, I was given freedom enough to not go to church... and escaping their constant reinforcement was all it took for me to start thinking outside of blind faith. From baptism - atheist in 5 years.
The guy that spoke of being a minister for 20 years is very much like me. I lost my christian faith by reading the bible. My family are all Christians and I don't tell them that I am not because I am sure it would be a disaster. They want to believe for the same reasons as most others and that is it is spoon fed to them from childhood. Nothing I as one person can say to them would change their position. Most people don't know that they have been conditioned to believe.
Seth, you are loved! Thank you so much for your show!!!
I think this is one of the best shows you have ever done. The calls were riveting and brilliantly handled. Thanks for this show.
What a beautiful, inspiring episode. Thank you Seth.
What an incredibly moving part that was with Cliff.
It is wonderful that resources such as this exist for people like him. And not just him but for us all.
Seth, I am so glad that you kept going.
@TheThinkingAtheist, Believe me, brother, what you do matters. I'm watching this almost a year after it was broadcast, yet it still has MUCH relevance. What a great show. We all get burnt out at times, no matter how long it takes, we still look forward to your podcast...again, great show.
You are making a positive difference in this World - your voice and moral support for those of us in this struggle is invaluable. I sincerely hope that you will remain intrepid in this, your greatest Honor.
You're a great man Seth. I think you touched a lot of people's lives. In a very good way. Thank you!
Podcast are the best part of this channel.
Thank you for making these awesome shows.
As long as you keep doing these podcasts, I'm happy. You're honestly the only subscription that I regularly check up on to see if you've posted new content.
Much love.
Fantastic show. Very interesting calls and conversations and monologs. You do fantastic work.
You're an honourable, compassionate and inspiring man, Seth
I love these long podcasts. I always watch the full thing.
@joshthesarge Josh, Thank YOU for this great Country and your immeasurable contribution to keeping it 'Blessed.' You never see 'God' getting blown to pieces, killed or maimed for us. WOW, the "Whatever" show got REALLY deep. I have never come that close to tears on youtube before.
I don't listen to the show on a regular basis, but I loved the "whatever" show. Please do more of this style.
Big fan of your work, TTA. Keep it up! The world is listening.
Cliff has me in tears. Twelve years later. I hope he and his family are well.
"I'm tired of my mind, my body" lol I feel the same & I'm tired of the worlds BS, especially when feeling this world is a waste of its not existent time. Cliff's story is just heartbreaking. I'd love to know if you ever heard from him again Seth.
The ex-preacher, Cliff (I think his name was) nearly had me in tears. It's 2018 and I'd love to know how he's doing now.
This might be my favorite podcast so far..
I love how there's Steven Fry's voice in the intro; I love him!
We love you Mr. Thinking Atheist.
The Whatever Show was awesome! (More, please.) And don't worry if you can't make as many shows-- the shows you do make get copied and spread far and wide and will be viewed for many years. There are no words I know that can convey the sence of sorrow I feel when I hear the story of the ex-pastor.

I'm really late to this party (going through the backlog) but... Best show yet! Cliff's call was crazy and inspirational.

Great podcast, as always!
I really wish you had one each week.
I love your podcasts and videos-keep up the great work!!
I am not a wizard of words and far from an icon of inspiration, so I hope that a simplistic message will suffice: Thank you, TheThinkingAtheist.
thank you so much Seth!

Great show!

Dawkins is virtually flawless.
I hope to shake hands with this living legend, this genius, one day.
Another great podcast sir. Keep up the good work.

I'm just catching up on some of these old podcasts, as well. I didn't know that Dawkins had spread "Welcome to this World." That's amazing! :)
TA: Ok, I'm just gonna call you Bob
I LOL d!!!
Cliff who I'm sure you all liked and felt for came to the chat after the podcast had ended and said thanks to Seth. He also commented on a post which a member of the TTA group on facebook posted, saying thanks for all the support etc.

I could swear I heard Tylzen call in from Denmark!
In fact I am sure! I truly enjoy these podcasts!
Do more 'Whatever' shows. They are great.
Caller #2: I was a soldier in Iraq back in 2005-2006... What happened there caused me to lose my faith as well. Yet again, great job.
very good do more
As I tuned in for this episode, I couldn't help but notice that the "A" in the light bulb of the logo is reminiscent of the Star Trek insignia from The Next Generation series.
*my inner geek grins*
I really liked the "Whatever" show.
I laughed. I cried.
I wonder if, perhaps, spending eternity burning in hell is better than spending eternity rehashing these same arguments over and over again.
"I don't know. I'm not Dr. Phil."
That's a good thing.
Personally, I think this format was awesome.
I would like to hear a podcast about how things are improving for atheists in the US, and elsewhere in the first world, as well as how this compares with the third.
I vote more whatever shows!
@DTiberius
Congratulations. That must have been difficult to have kept your skepticism about your family's religion within for as long as you did. If you don't mind me asking, how long did it take you for you to come out to your family and what was the initial factor that had you questioning your faith?
Love Ya, Seth!
After 45 yrs of being an atheist, I have had to argue and debate thousands of theists everywhere I go. It is very tiring but what keeps my juices flowing is that the outcome is worth all the work and frustration. Eventually, these folks who refuse to reason or connect with their logical mind, have to come to one conclusion, no gods.
I like it :)
Well not every time obviously but sometimes you just want to hear of what others say or think.
I was put off this at first because of his voice, it reminded me of Glenn Beck, but the content is actually good.
That logo looks a bit like the old Star Trek logo. I like it.
@SoullessConviction I was still wiping away tears when I heard that, and busted out laughing too. But damn... who can I tell it to??? It is extra fun when a clever comment like that just blindsides me. And that one did. LOVE it. (Cliff Schrauger)
@genext7 I can't express how huge this was for me. I am so thankful I was able to get through. (Cliff Schrauger)
Wow, Seth... Big kudos on the Dawkins bump! That's impressive indeed. :)
Keep the whatever format. I also like the shows with a theme but it's cool if you can do both.

First of all Seth, you've done so many great videos if you can't produce them at the rate you have for the last few years it's more than forgivable.
Please feel free to take time off to have fun!
As for future Podcasts; I have two suggestions for guests.
Bart Erhman would be brilliant.
Tim Callahan who "The Secret History of the Bible",and "Bible Prophecy:failure or fullfilment". I have read the first, and it's a great debunking of the Bible.
He writes for Skeptic magazine as well.
@TheRougeHawksClan Because there's no point in pondering it farther. We have no idea what happened before the Big Bang, and we have no possible way to ever figure it out. Welcome to 2013!
Cole Rojas Welcome to 2019 (Jan 2, 2019)
lol, i took a look at the pirillo live cam, the ad that came up - Meet Christian singles -. Made me laugh
9:00 Those Goosebumps man.
ride on atheist brothers.
omg.. as he was listing the arguments at the beginning that the christians say over and over i was like "ahhhhhhhh he mentioned them allllllllll exactly!!!!! same ole shit over and over"

The Whatever Podcast was great seems like it works, bu if a subject pops into your head then so be it too.
Mexico, Demark, Poland, New Zealand, then Canada! Wow I don't we feel loved lol
