- In this video, I walk through the steps and tools required to install a locking tailgate handle on a 2nd Generation Honda Ridgeline (2017).. These early years of Gen. 2 did not have a locking tailgate, but one can be added with a few parts ordered from Honda parts
This modification initially cost about $100 for the parts.
Parts required:
08Z07-T6Z-100D Tailgate Lock, Cylinder
08Z07-T6Z-120E Tailgate Lock Handle, Lunar Silver Metallic NH830M
(make sure you select the part number for your matching paint code)
Tools required:
Ratchet with short extension
10mm socket
Torx T30 bit
phillips screwdriver
Rubber mallet
small flat blade - for removing plastic clips
Excellent detailed video! Thanks for sharing. Might have to do this to my 2019 Ridgeline
Thanks! Glad it was helpful
Does the black plate, rods and rod connectors come with the two parts you listed in the description or are those separate? If so, do you have part #s for them also?
Yes, everything came with the handle set. The lock cylinder was separate.
Followed this and it worked great. 2 weeks later the swing latch would not release. I am not sure what is wrong but others have said this is the same problem they had. Any help would be great!
I had a similar problem and I think the connecting rod that is supplied with the new lock set is not as strong. This causes some flex during temperature changes. I had to disassemble and adjust the rod. If it happens again, it may need some extra metal strengthening.
what about the 1st gen Ridgeline? Can I order OEM parts from Honda as well? I would think Honda didn't change much between the tailgate with the generations, at least the handle and mechanism
I’m not sure if this would fit properly. All of the components and the handle would have to be the same between generations
