Great work there. This graphics looks kinda like in Catalyst with this colour tone. I remember in the original the white floors are really white until you can't see a thing. This one's abit more realistic. Nice!

It's a cool sort of tech demo, being able to run this kind of lighting in real-time. I wouldn't say it looks better however, Mirror's Edge struck a really nice balance between hyper-realism and abstraction, but this definitley feels more realistic (the whites are toned down a lot), so it's kind of lost some of the "aesthetic" the original Mirror's Edge had. Interesting to consider that although all the lighting in Mirror's Edge was baked, they still designed the lighting to change (based on the time of day) each level as the timeline of the plot moved forward, so if you were to remake Mirror's Edge with real-time GI and Ray-tracing some of that utility would be pointless because the original game already changes it's lighting based on time. Just goes to show that when used intelligently, older tools can still accomplish the same things as new tools.
Though some leaks said an rtx remaster is on the way, rtx version got cancelled. ı guess you can make an UE5 demo of Mirrors edge it would be great. Anyway thanks for the video it looks awesome.
Thank you! Yes I did rip all the geo and textures from the original game. I wanted to preserve all models and textures just to see how different engine version can achieve completelly different look.

Thanks for the comment. Yes, it’s mainly due to specular maps not intended to use like this. I would paint spec maps differently but I decided not to edit anything. I guess they are made only to “mimic” shiny objects. But I’m trying to improve it.
I don't get the point of adding ray tracing on old games, especially Mirror's Edge, it kills the original art style. "Realism" is not necessarily better.
Well, I get you point BUT the game was called "MIRROR'S Edge" for a reason. If developers had the modern technology available back in the day we would have a completelly different looking game. Also the rendering engine devs used for baking GI was far more advanced from what UE 3 was able to do by default. Even UE4 GI tools does not allow us to have effects like colour bleeding which was heavily used in the original ME game. Colour bleeding is definitelly something that makes 3D render look more realistic.
@@FairwayFank For glass surfaces, I must admit that the exterior buildings' windows look really great. My biggest grievance is directed towards lighting on other solid surfaces, Mirror's Edge whiteness is obviously what makes it so memorable.
