Using AI for my product photography is definitely something I'm going to be exploring more of for my clients. This still took me as long as producing an actual photo in real life. I'm sure as time moves on, AI will become a lot more easy to use and we may even get to a point where we don't even have to shoot the product at all.
I encourage you to explore using Midjourney to create some product photos of your own and have fun with it!

This is a great video! I've just VERY recently decided to learn product photography and lately have been seeing so many videos on how AI will render product photographers useless. I almost decided not to go any further but videos like yours are giving me more hope. I have a ton to learn before even dabbling with MidJourney but I think it will be a fun, creative tool once I'm at that level. Thanks much for this! Love your work!
Thanks for watching! I think a lot of those types of videos are just trying to instil fear and get the clicks. Like anything, at some point we will need to innovate and pivot. And this is the time now that learning AI as a creative tool will be so beneficial for photographers. So glad you’re feeling good about it! 🙌
This was my first thought for usage in MJ as a photographer. In the present day, it stands as a great tool to supplement our work. 3D rendering is a huge tool in product photography and MJ is the shortcut version of that. You might also find it useful to guide MJ with sketches or basic renditions of your image as it will help to guide the final composition - something that is very hard to convey with just words and crucial for composites. Using the blend command with prompts and basic 3D renders also helps because you can control lighting which helps dramatically for the final output
The real threat of AI to us though is when this part - the prompt engineering - becomes redundant. People like to jump to "just move with it, it's the future, use it as a tool". Currently, yes, someone needs to drive it, guide prompts and revise and it's a tool you need to know how to use & it's helpful and useful. We're in the MS-DOS phase & it needs to be considered what this would be in 3 years time - with consideration of what MJ looked like 12 months ago.
Look at tools like AutoGPT where the AI tools start to work with one another and become agents that start to drive them. We're truly not far off the point where an AI agent could get as much of an idea and then generate a full marketing campaign with dozens of proofs in (1/100th of the time and cost) to refine further from with as much (unclear) instruction as you receive from a human client as a human photographer/marketer/studio now.
But hey, that Pandoras Box is well and truly opened now, may as well have some fun with it haha. /rant
Well said and I completely agree with what you said. Use it as a tool while you can, but the sad fact of the matter is this tech is in it's infancy, and companies are seeing dollar signs because this the beginning of software that will significantly cut down on the necessary workforce. I don't know what the answer is on how to handle it, but I think people have to be really honest with their concerns and we need to be discussing what this will look like in the next 3 years for a lot of job fields.
@@MikeyPee you need the initial photo of the subject anyway, though a simple one should be enough (even amateurish), so photography will be simplified to a technical routine
Most of the time, as a photography or designer, lack of materials or not having enough budget to make a beautiful poster is one of our weaknesses. AI have made a very good job in terms of material and with low budget
I like your approach and great way to pivot and incorporate AI.
Creating keywords/prompts is the real skill for the user. More refined, curated keywords you add…better the results.

You’re so welcome! Thank you for watching! I 100% agree. Someone still needs to understand how to operate AI and utilise it.
After experience in other industries and the exponential growth of AI capabilities, I fear that in just a year AI capabilities in product photography will be completely different.
I think back to the days when the first "as-if" translators came out and our corporate translators laughed that it was worthless.
It only took 5 years for the translation team to become AI translation proofreaders - with 1/10th of them.
Oh, and my field (content marketing, especially longer texts, not slogans) and when chatGPT came along, I also found it so imperfect that it bordered on "interesting". Well, a few months have passed and it has improved so much that it can realistically generate simpler articles on its own.*
For now, we can talk about productivity gains, with the caveat that it can't replace opinion pieces and doesn't include images - but the current trend may so upend many of the established orders that we won't recognize our fields in a few years (if they survive). I can see this in myself - I used to spend a lot of time on wikis. Nowadays (although I'm not happy about it) it's easier to get some things pulled from ChatGPT or Google's Bard (Bing is ok too, but mainly for getting resources). The question is what the AI will learn from when all the primary creation dies down. But we'll see.
*For completeness - English is not my first language - so if you're wondering why that first grade English savage is writing texts, then... I don't write them in English.
@@Eristtx it’s definitely going to get better and better and I’m sure at some point it’s going to be very easy for AI to generate a product. I’m not actually worried though. Because with any kind of tech advancement, new opportunities come about. It’s whether you’re able to pivot and innovate in business that will see you withstand these advancements. And I have full trust in myself that I’ll be able to innovate as AI grows. 😊
Couldnt you have uploaded the image of the product somewhere and place a n URL for the product in the promt so Midjourney could place the product in the sceneri for you?

Wow, great tutorial! It's so great that you just dove in and learned how to create the background in Midjourney and through testing, testing, and more testing, you finally got a result you were thrilled with. I learned a lot about the product photo process to be able to composite the product photo into the background image because I'm not a photographer.
I'm getting pretty good with Midjourney and I'm still in awe of its power and capabilities to those who know the language of MJ prompting. Your final result looks AMAZING and please update us on what your client's reaction was. Awesome job!
Thank you! It was definitely fun to play around with this type of image and give it go! Wasn't sure if it was going to turn out haha. The client loved it! I'm sure MJ is just going to get more intelligent by the month. It's pretty wild what it can conjure up!
I'm a Prada photographer. all fashion brands use ai. in my opinion it will work for a while but they will soon realize that this type of image will not attract customers enough. it has already happened with excess postproduction. I hope I'm wrong

This is what I think will happen too, in some ways it already has. Companies get all excited about it because it's new, and they think it's a good way to cut costs, but most people don't want to buy something randomly generated from a computer. I don't really see it as bad thing though
@@curbyvids most people nowdays maybe. but in near future where the humanity will have less interaction with "real" photos this .A.I generated images will become their reality.
it kinda depends. the problem with this AI generated images in this video is leaning towards "3D render" kind of style, thus it lacks of human touch. if you are good at prompting you still can achieve good concept with human touch in it. in the end of the day, it comes down to our creative fundamentals.

This is high res 😊 When you export from Midjourney you have the option to export high res.

I have found playing around with MidJourney that for me, and what is "my jam" is to use A.I. for concepting. I get tired after a while when there is an image that I like but not quite yet like, and then wrestling with A.I. to try and move it towards the thing I want for the vision. I could use it as addition to a final image, but for me it's just not the kind of process I want to use to create the images I want to deliver. I got into photography cause I enjoy the process of image creation with lights and props and things I can touch - not so that I can use a keyboard and sit hours infront of a computer to create the image - other people enjoy that, I don't.
does it work if you add the final product image link in imagine and let the ai generate for you? i mean that way u could skip the last part?
MJ can't generate actual products and replicate the product itself - this would need to be done via CGI
is it possible to give Midjourney just a logo, and it can put it on a bag?
Great video, I agree that AI will be an awesome tool to assist so many different jobs, but you will always need human input to create the concept/refine it. Love the final image!

How to put an existing 3D designed product into a stock photo background using AI instead of using traditional rendering ?
I have never used MJ. Honestly this is the second video I’ve seen on how it’s used. Saying that, I wonder if it would be possible to take the actual product image and upload it to MJ and ask it to incorporate that one as the actual product image? That would save a lot of time and having “mad photoshop skills” 😊
At the moment MJ can’t do this. It either has to be CGI rendered or photographed.
wait for a few months, there is a paper that shows that you can upload a picture, give a prompt and the shadows, lighting and product image will be incorporated, we juat have to see who comes up with this first

Great vid. Bet you I could create a scene similar to this in 3D in less time it took you to do this. Then, as I’ve created the model and lighting I could create variations, different angles, even animation with that very same model. Can’t say I’m not scared of AI taking my job though hence why I’m here 😂

Just a little addition to this, Ai will take over jobs because it will become better and better because it constantly learn from user input, right now many Ai are free because of this (you are the product) Only question is what jobs and responsibility human will forbid the Ai to replace ?
AI image generation is a tool to be used same as content aware fill. This a normal cycle of industry consolidation. When I was a young web developer I disliked page builders that advertised anyone can make a website. I went to college, and honed my craft to get replaced by squarespace? What I know now is not to understand the clients laziness. To get the most out of page builders you still have to code. Same is true for AI images. I still have to spend time feeding it phrases and, as of right now, it can be told: "change this" in a previous image so I'm still taking the image into photoshop.
So what is AI image generation: a tool that helps speed up the beginning and middle of your design processes. By assist in brainstorm and helping create a starting point to a final design that is 70-80% there.
You get replaced by AI its because your let yourself get replaced by it just i almost let myself get replaced by page builder before adding into my workflow.
its amazing how many photographers have their heads in the sand as to what this will mean to their profession.
Ultimately it will not be good, in fact it will be very very bad for professional photographers. Its already happening.
But keep smiling as the ship sinks…

My resume is more than full enough due to my involvement in film, professional photography and image editing over 40 years.
I know for a fact a fair amount of companies are already bypassing hiring crews and photographers to handle their product image needs.

I think it's fascinating! I'm sure with time it will get better and better. It'll be interesting what happens when it's released for commercial use. I think it can be a great way to solve minor problems that could have been missed during shooting. But only time will tell the full scope of it and how accurate the AI objects are in terms of realism.
the ideal thing is to create a 3d model of the product that you can use in midjourney. then you don't need to shoot the product anymore. this will happen soon I think
Still takes cgi skills to be able to render a 3D model. Just as easy for me personally to photograph it 😊
But yes, this will definitely be something people who can do cgi will do.

You've done a great job but...the compositing still has a long way to go. You'd be better off compositing in the surface where the product sits, so you get realistic reflections and ground occlusion. The highlight reflecting off the original ground would be blocked by the new product, and the highlights/shadows don't match. It's so close though. Just 5% more work and it would be realistic to me.
I wonder...can't you just do a link of your product photo as input and tell ai to make an image around it?
As far as my understanding goes, Midjourney doesn’t have the capability to create an exact replica of a product. I’m sure though as time goes on and AI advances, this will change.
Fan fact do you know that anyone that used ai to generate an image have no copyright so anybody can claim that work is their work
I’m sure as time goes on they’ll start to look at copyright further for AI. Technically I altered the image, and part of the image is my copyrighted work… so I’m not sure how they view they.
If you're inputting other creative's images as inspiration are you not running the risk of infringing copyright in the same way musicians get sued for using rifs similar to those of other musicians? I agree AI will be a great tool in the future but there seems to be a whole debate around copyright and other ethics before this can happen.
If you look at the Inspo photos though and what MJ generated, they are not similar. I think the user could make a judgement as to whether or not it looks exactly the same. But they definitely don’t look the same in this scenario 😊

A.I.is Awkward Intelligence. There is so much flawed information in AI, and too many mostly clueless people are leaning too much on AI to dictate their content (but incorrectly think it is accurate). I think it will be a good tool in the future to generate ideas/inspiration, and initial information, but it cannot be relied upon without adequate time--to put the necessary knowledgeable human element, to polish the product.
I think we’re still in a stage where everyone is still learning and experimenting. I wouldn’t necessarily call them clueless as this is all so new and people are learning how to incorporate it. I think it’s already a great tool right now to generate ideas and Inspo. We’re already there in that aspect. There’s a lot to learn with AI and the learning won’t ever stop.
@@amandacampeanu In the realm of science, I find the general descriptions from AI correct, but the details laughingly wrong. Perhaps it works better for art and design. But it is a flawed resource for students and others, that want to use it like an encyclopedia.
I disagree. It's pretty unfair that someone without experience and knowledge will use a computer generated image to be in the same job category as me. I am not a professional photographer, but I'm forcing myself to learn and plan, although it seems hard for me

How many weeks/months until midjourney allows you to use a product image and prompt it to use "x" object within the image to create "y" background based on a second prompt. Your assumption that ai will never be able to do what took you hours is just laughable. We are so early in this.
I didn’t say it will never be able to do this. Currently, MJ can’t replicate actual products. So you have to either photograph the product or use cgi to render it to do something like this. If this is what you’re referring to. You also then have Photoshop beta practically being able to change backgrounds easily but you cant currently use it for commercial purposes. I’m aware of how fast the landscape is changing. Who know what it will be capable of in months to heads down the track.

Definitely! I’m sure more regulation will come into play in the future around it.
They have already ruled beyond that. You don't own your AI images, but it is a super low chance you deal with source material issues

Stop talking about "photo" with AI generated images. Call them images, pictures. photo means optical light gathering, not synthetic content.
