- Hello! I'm back with another law school related video~ This was actually hard for me to do/upload because of my work and class schedule huhu As you can see, it was filmed around January hahaha Better late than never! I tried putting subs in it, but had to skip the last part (and there's a part that has the old, template subs hahahahaha)
I got a lot of requests asking me to discuss the UP Law Aptitude Exam (UP LAE) and while I think I am not the right person to answer queries about it, I tried to make a video explaining it :) I think this applies to the Philippine Law School Admission Test (PhiLSAT) as well.
I also tried asking for the opinions of my friends in the college of law and put them here hehe
Here are some of the questions I answered:

Hi everyone! Please note that the PhilSAT was declared unconstitutional in 2019 as it usurps the right and duty of the law school to determine the criteria for admission of students :) (Pimento v LEB, 2019)
ang course ko is BS accountancy. After Ko maging CPA proceed nako sa law school. And ang plan ko after law school mag aral pa ng ibang course pre-med sana. Hehe i want to be a lawyer someday para magbigay ng pagbabago. i want to change philippines justice system, and gusto kong matulungan yung mga tao na hindi makalaban ng patas dahil sa estado ng pamumuhay nila💚 wala na sana ang maging BIAS💚

Napaka timing ng video na toh. I'm currently in my final year of college, and I was seriously thinking and praying about whether or not I should really give Law School a try, let alone applying to UP. (I was too scared to take the UPCAT during my undergraduate applications, but the lesson learned was that nothing is lost regardless of the outcome.) But I think I'll be taking the LAE either way. Not sure if stumbling across your video is a sign or not, but it was encouraging nevertheless. Thanks!

How was lae
I agree with most of them: General Info is time consuming AF! I passed the LAE years ago, though. I thought it was Math na magpapahamak sa kin, pero if there was something that could've risked my passing the exam, it was THAT portion. I didn't take my spot to pursue teaching in my hometown but will do it again in a year or two and become a full-time student. Sa mga future UPLAE takers, beware sa Gen Info!

Nakapag decide na ako na gusto ko maging lawyer. I'm already a LET passer, pero di ko nakikita sarili ko in the field of teaching. And wala rin akong matinong ideya bakit nag teaching ako. Nag MA na ako pero I still don't know. I'm in my early 20's, and pota mag lalawyer na talaga ako. Pag ako nakapasa, babalikan ko tong comment na to at pasasalamatan ko yung vlogger sa mga tips.

I was bullied with my teacher and I suddenly felt like I wanted to go to law school. Maybe because I wanted to give justice to people whose being deprived of their own rights.. Is that making sense?

I'll soon be a Grade 8 student but already thinking about what course or job to take. Gusto kopo iprepare ang sarili ko for law and I don't know kung makikita mo po ang msg ko ate rona but I'd like to ask few questions po like..
How many items is the exam?
Why is the time limit stressful? Ilang oras po ba ang oras na inilalaan para po masagutan ang exam?
What do you do sa mga binibigay na papel ng profs? Sinasagutan po ba or most of the time ay puro babasahin at reviewhin ang nakalagay?

Hello, Terrence! Yes, meron naman! I wouldn't say super baba? Hindi naman kami nag compare ng undergrad gwa but nasasabi lang minsan na less than average and grades nila hehe They probably did very well in the exams because UP law weighs both undergrad gpa/gwa and the LAE performance! :)

Great video. I would like to ask if what should you do when the law school you are applying for requires two recommendation letter and you only have one from you’re work boss. The other one should be from your undergraduate degree dean or professor but, what should you do when the dean of the said school has gone abroad and your favorite or closest professor has retired. Thank you.
Hi! I dont think it's a problem if your professor/mentor is retired. Credible and Professor mo parin naman siya! :) You can also clarify with the school you're applying to if a soft copy/e copy is okay. Apologies for the late reply! Hope this helps!

Not to get into the money subject but I heard Patent Law is very lucrative.

@@pepperrona Patent law is very lucrative because it is a difficult field of law. It's too technical: the language has to be very specific. Because if a patent application's claims (the part of the invention protected by patent law) (1) are already covered by a previous patent or patent application or (2) have already been made public, then the patent application I first referred to must be denied. Patent rights are the most restrictive of all the intellectual property rights (longer period of monopoly for the patent holder, no fair use unlike copyright), so the standard for protection must also be very strict.
Reading some patents for my videos right now. They are very difficult to understand without a background on the scientific field involved. So there's another reason why patent law is lucrative: there are not enough scientist-lawyers.

I wanna ask about those interviewed if they were brilliant in their pre-law courses. I myself was a below average student when I was in college. In fact my GWA is 76.2. But eventually I passed the board exam for Architecture. Gusto q din maging lawyer this time for many reasons.

Hello! Di kailangan mag Philsat for LAE :) UP LAE is exclusive lang to UP so need parin ng philsat for other schools unless otherwise provided hehe

Hello po! Depende sa study habits mo! I find it better to read the hard copies but then pag napakarami ng mga kaso, medyo sayang sa papel at imposible iprint lahat haha Meron akong mga profs nagaassign ng 100 cases per day so hindi ideal magprint. Depende rin sa prof kung papayagan niya gadgets and printed copies sa class :)

Is it possible for me to take LSAT even though I am from a pre med course and even took NMAT exam will I be allowed to take it even though i did not took any units connected to law

Hi! Yes 😊 Any course will be okay as a pre-law course. And if you plan on pursuing a specialization or field close to mass comm after the bar, then that will be good to!

Yes meron! Just be yourself but bear in mind that they want someone who is sure of their choice to be in UP Law. Be confident but not arrogant :) Don't say "I think/in my opinion" and dont ever say anything you cant defend hehe theyll be looking at aptitude ❤
Hello po, gusto lang ako mag-ask regarding the pre-requisite course units. Puwede po ba ma-accumulate ang points from varying subjects in order to achieve the required number of subject units or dapat ba isang subject lang at dapat yan lang isa makaabot sa desired number of units. For example, History=6 + Economics=3, would this suffice the required units or dapat isang subject lang is to be based upon? Any response would be much appreciated, Maam Rona.😁
Hello Dhanley! Accumulated siya :) For example, 9 units of English = Literature, English Classes :) The UP Law website has a more detailed listing yata of the breakdown of subjects that qualify hehehe You're always welcome!
Are there Civil Engrs here? Lol. Any advice for us who are already working? Is it advisable or should i say possible to be a working sstudent?
Hi! 😊 I'm actually a working law student hehe it's pretty hard, can lead to burn out, and stress kasi minsan wala na time mag aral! Hahahaha Stressful but doable if you're sure you want to do both! There's a benefit to working while in law school because you get to be practical, more driven, possibly apply what you learn to work, and get away from law school drama hehe

Hello! Tbh kahit ano naman pwede maging pre-law course:) From what I encounter in law school, mas helpful (and in the future, mas lucrative) ang accountancy. Lalo na if you will actually pursue being a CPA before going to law school. Very competent and flexible kasi ng mga CPA Lawyers :)

Third year College po ako ngayon ang course ko po ay Bachelor of Secondary Education major in Mathematics. Tanong ko lang po, pwede po bang maging pre-law ang course kong ito para maka pag take ng UP LAE? Maraming Salamat po. ❤️
Hello! Yes :) As long as you take the prerequisite subjects or alam ko if kulang ka sa english units, for example, you can complete it before your sophomore year :D

Hello po ate.. I would like to ask..do you have classmates po in law school who took unconventional pre-law courses like Bio or Chem?? My major po is actually Marine Bio and i do not know how would i get into law school knowing that my undergrad is far from many pre-law courses mentioned (Economics or Polsci). Just to not lose hope hehe

Hi Gello! UP doesnt require PHILSAT. It only accepts students through the lae and the subsequent interview hehe

Hello! Yes, the PHILSAT was declared unconstitutional! I think no difference naman because the schools will still administer exams and they will more or less be an aptitude exam like whilst hehe

Hi! Hmm sa totoo lang, hindi ko alam! hindi imposible yung mababang GWA. As long as mataas ka sa exam at nasa top 200-300 (?) ka ng examinees, possible talaga! :)
