The animators did a sneaky!! 3:29 after the close up of Macaque MK comes ro give him a smack down, but for a split second we see a monkey instead of MK!! Eirher this is foreshadowing or a PTSD flashback-
I think it both since we see Macaque blind eye and scar being point out too and mostly that was a short flashback to when Macaque got his scar which also kind conform that he got it fighting Sun Wukong + I think the more we see MK being compared to SWK and it getting more clear compared then just a shadow figure ,like the more it moves from a shadow figure to more details SWK the more MK is getting stronger to the same level as SWK maybe even stronger than him!
its a flashback almost most definitely. From what I can tell, all the demons in the show are from the Journey To The West, with Macaque having mimicked SWK, them fighting from Flower Fruit Mountain, to the East Sea, to Yama in the underworld, to the Buddha himself, just to prove who's who. SWK proceeds to uninstall SEM from reality after Buddha says who's who btw, but since he's in the show, along with many other demons SWK, Pigsy, and Sandy slew, its safe to say they either regenerated or just...didn't uninstall?
There's also the fact that when Macaque caught the staff it was right over his blind eye as well, MK had tried to strike the exact same place Wukong had centuries ago
I feel after MK regains his powers in S3, Macaque is quietly proud of MK, not just because he regained his powers but he used something Macaque would've told him to do, go for a weak spot. Maybe MK didn't know his right eye was a sore spot for Macaque, but he definitely used it to his advantage. Macaque afterwards is sitting there holding his face obviously in tremendous pain, but he's not angry after his mech blows up, in fact he does sound proud. Such a good teacher...with such a terrible teaching style.
Even though, his teaching skills are terrible. But he is probably a better mentor, than wukong. And don't give me wrong, he is probably trying his best to be good enough mentor (or dad, cause honestly I think he's the **real** father for mk) but all that a side. The reason why macaque's mentor skills are terrible is because, he's a broken villain. He was betrayed by his best friend. The monkie king and been living in denial, for a while, and last (spoiled alert, for s4) he's been judge by, one of his brothers that he's being a coward, and maybe should man up a bit to fight back, the emperor of heaven. And cause of his "cowardness" their thinking that he's not as powerful, as monkie king. But in reality, he's not. A. Coward, he's strategies is: knowing the right time for, action. He's like the other brothers to, lash out to fight back hard. And in the flashbacks from ep 2 beginning with who's going to be the leader, for the rest of the brothers to lead. They- I mean azure lion wants wukong, to be the leader. If one of them isn't judging how much macaque is being a "coward", he's honestly going to be a beast leader for them. In the myth Sun Wukong did kill the six ear macaque. There's also a very high possibility that there could be the other two celestial monkeys if they haven't been shown already. To be honest I haven't seen the show but it looks amazing

I just came back after watching season 5. So Spoilers ahead for season 5 The image at 3:30 is the same one when Wukong was locked in his darkest memory. He was reliving the moment of killing Macaque. Macaque saw the same image when MK went to strike him, noticing their similarities. We didn't see Macaque's darkest memory but I'm willing to bet it was the same thing as Wukongs.
