Yes. Some carts here in Norway have to be coined to release the chain. Its a dying practice though, since no regular Norwegian carries cash anymore! (Except when buying drugs, and I mean, you're not gonna buy drugs with a few worthless coins)

When I worked at Safeway as a Courtesy Clerk I loved when my hour came to bring in carts because it was a full hour were you'd be allowed to essentially goof off as long as you want while bringing the carts in from around the parking lot.

its not a matter of the cart being returned or not, obviously its what youre supposed to do. when you walk up to a random stranger with a bodycam on being blatantly antagonistic for clout, it leaves just as much to be questioned about your morality as theirs
Breaking news: Cart narc got shot after being in an argument with a gang member. Witnesses say that the victim was following the suspect, sticking stickers on their car while talking about the hazards of carts, while all of the sudden after a 20minute argument the suspect grabbed a gun from the car and shot the narc.

We interviewed some of the witnesses to get their opinion.

It’s a combination of laziness and ego on why people don’t take their carts back. When they are confronted, it then becomes a combination of ego and embarrassment. Everyone knows that the courteous and respectful thing is to put your cart back. Most of them don’t want anyone to see them and certainly don’t want anyone to confront them. But when someone does, they get super aggressive AND defensive.
That said, him putting stuff on their cars is definitely taking it too far. But that is mainly just for content purposes of course. If a stranger put anything on my car, especially a sticker or magnet, I’d be irritated too, as would most people. Especially if I already had an altercation with that person. They definitely are in the wrong for not taking their carts back, then arguing for much longer than it’d take to simply walk 10 ft to put it up. But then he becomes also in the wrong for touching their vehicles and putting stuff on them. I don’t think it’s illegal, but neither is not taking your cart back. Both are just disrespectful, discourteous, and “wrong”, but not illegal.
Anyway, love his content regardless.

In the UK you need to put a pound coin in a slot in the cart to unlock it and use it, or have a metal token that you can get at the supermarkets. You have to put the cart back to get your money or token back, so you hardly ever see shopping carts or trolleys left scattered around.

Here in Ireland, we have the system explained in the video, we put in a 2 euro coin in and get the cart but we don't get it back until we put the cart into the cart corral and use the chain on the other cart to push the coin out. It's simply genius.

Cart narc guy there are people parking in the online pickup spots and walking in and shopping causing people that are there to pick up their online orders to awkwardly call into the store and tell them they are "near" the pickup place and there's a bunch of empty cars parked there. Happened to me today I even talked to the person that loads the groceries up about it and he said they were having problems with people doing it but it was hard to do anything about it. It reminded me of these videos when I see a woman come out with a cart and load her car in the pick up area lol.

i'm an EU narcateer so i always return my cart but i've had a surgery on my knee about 4 months ago and the more i walk the more my knee hurts, so after a shop visit my knee is usually aching quite hard and the cart actually helps so you can lean on something and not have to hold yourself up... so i understand that if you've got bad knees it hurts more but you should still do it out of respect
In the US most regional grocery stores (not Wal-Mart) will carry your merchandise to your car if you ask. Some even refuse to accept tips.

I understand that some carts get stolen but since I can remember all the carts I have used need a coin to be unlocked. Instead of doing this war you just need a little mechanism so everyone will get their cart back or some poor soul will put them back and get some change in return
As a grocery store clerk, one of my favorite things to do was go around collecting carts. Gave me a chance to get some fresh air, and a break from people.

In the UK we force people to put money into the cart if they want to use it, and they don't get their money back until they lock the cart up properly. It's the ultimate cure for lazybonesitis.
Whenever I go to the supermarket and after my shopping is done, I always put my cart back at the trolley stop within the parking slots or sometimes even others back to those stops, but unlike this cart nacs weirdo, I do not go lecture others to do the same as me.
My parents taught me common decency and empathy, but they also taught me to mind my own business because your own life is more important than beaten by violent people over something so trivial.
