The whole "it's their job, they get paid for it" thing is so dumb. Anyone who makes workers do extra work just because they're too lazy and selfish to take things back or clean up after themselves is just a shitty thing imo.

Idk about other stores, but the one I work at doesn't have "people" who explicitly get carts. We get carts in between other duties and if they're scattered all over the place it just makes our jobs harder and take longer before we can get back in the store and do more important things

@@Allmageddon343 I work at a grocery store and we do the same. It definitely is helpful for someone to put the carts back instead of leaving them wherever especially if its a rainy day.
When I was a young lad, I was waiting in the car at my local grocery store while my mom went to grab groceries. It was windy enough for carts to start rotating on the spot. One eventually rolled & hit the side of our car. There was a dent & the paint was scratched. We went to an autobody shop & they quoted us $1500 CAD to fix it. My mom was living paycheque to paycheque at the time, we couldn't afford the repairs. My mom cried on the drive home from the autobody shop, I will never forget that.

He is very annoying and as far as I can tell achieving nothing than inconveniencing and annoying everyone involved. I get that not returning the carts is a problem and I personally always return mine, but man, just fucking tell them it would be better if they put their cart back and if they're dicks go put it back. It's not like these assholes will have a change of heart. It's like arguing with a brick wall. They're just wasting energy

Japan (im not a weeb idc about anime) has a culture of cleaning up after yourself and supposedly dont "need" janitors as much (or sometimes at all?). They have a lost and found for umbrellas (everyone has one) and it's return rate is in 95%+. Am*ricans (stinkers) would do well to consider a culture like that instead

There is a pretty easy way to fix this. In germany, you have to put a coin into the cart to be able to pul it out. if you put it back into the "cart garage" (?!) you get your coin back.

i have never seen one cart standing around at my supermarket here in germany lol. I was shocked that lazy bones actually do that.. on the other hand, we have to put a coin or chip in the cart and only get it back if we put it back in the ?cart carrel? When the customer or your boss just tells you "well it's your job you get paid for it" even though the whole situation could've been avoided if that other person took 20 seconds of their life to be a normal human being.

Also to clarify yes, they make the loaders or backroom staff gather carts if they don't hire extra people for it and no, we are told to remove them for the whole Lot. it's crazy to think they would hire someone to do half of the job? You pay for convince and every super store has these standards.
Here in Italy you have to put 50 cents in a cart to unlock it and use it, then you get your coin back when you get the cart back to the cart trail

Returning the cart is a test of morality. It's something that has no reward for doing, but also (usually, not in cart narcs case) no repercussion for not doing. Pretty much the only reason you would do it is because you're a good person.
Using the shopping cart enters you into a social contract. You take advantage of the benefit of the free shopping cart, and in return you agree to return the cart to its proper place when you're finished with it.
Lmao the stores benefit from them more than anyone. It's not any social contract it's just common decency.

Unpopular opinion: He is more of a villain than a hero. I'm not saying that the people in his video's are justified not putting their carts back, but what he is doing is literally useless since I can guarantee you, after you annoy the living shit out of people, they are not going to change their habits to acutally putting their carts back. What he is doing provides literally no value into making the world a better place. He only causes irritation to people and makes video's about it to make a living off of TH-cam. He would even be more of a 'hero' if he just simply puts the carts back himself and asks them to put it back themselves the next time since, small as the chance may be, they might actually do it.

In hindsight, the viewer would think that they wouldn't want to be seen as that type of person, therefore it unconsciously makes them aware to put the cart back. Rather than affecting one person, the dude is potentially affecting thousands of watchers who probably didn't care about putting carts back before.
Ye he is annoying and doesn't solve the issue with 75% of the people in the videos, but that focus could be shifted towards the viewers who probably respects or laugh at him in those videos regularly.

Touching someone’s private property on private land (like a business parking lot) is ILLEGAL. You can’t just touch someone else’s car. It is seen as a form of battery on private property, just as you can’t touch someone’s mailbox, you can’t touch their car.

In other countries they take coins that you need to insert before using the carts, so if you want your coin back you need to hook it up with another cart. Pretty clever.
Stores should all use that dollar system, you put in a dollar to unlock the cart from the stall and you only get it back when the lock is inserted back into the cart afterwards

Its not about what is right and wrong its about how he goes about it. First off he's harassing people, second this is probably the least efficient way to get people to put their carts back, and third he has a motivation to harass people for content. This all points to a very concerning fact; the real reason he's doing this is to harass people for content. Its like harassing people for not picking their dog's poop up off the ground. It probably wont stop them from doing it again, and it might not even stop them in that moment. Not only would a fine be more efficient, but it also means you are causing less overall trouble for everyone. You also wouldn't have an alternative reason to monitor someone with a camera, and even then you wouldn't be the one handing out the fine. You have no authority there. It all just points to seeing an asshole and then becoming one for absolutely no reason... except, wait a second, he has a camera and he wants content!

As someone who did the job of getting carts the literal job description did say to get carts from any where on the property and to pick up trash while you did it.

I'm sick of the argument of 'They pay people to get the carts'. Next time you're waiting in a long line you can think about that one guy that can help at the cash register stuck outside walking around the parking lot picking up people's carts.

Damage or not he's putting his hands and belongings on another person's property while chasing them down in a parking lot. I'd say this could cause far worse issues then a shopping cart being left out.

I'm not a lazy bones apologist, but Mr. Cart Narc knows that people get upset when their vehicles are touched without permission, regardless if damage is done to the vehicle (It's been seen in almost every video he's made). Asking politely for the person to return their cart should be enough, but he then escalates the situation by doing something he knows will get a rise out of people. Yes, they should just return their carts, but by the time he has already escalated the interaction, these people are driven by spite and anger. I just feel like intentionally antagonizing people this way isn't the best approach.
He puts the sticker only when they already refuse to do so, and they deserve it. Besides it is just a fucking magnet, but their ego is just too huge.
Yeah people should put their carts back to be polite but my problem with him is his general attitude. I just hate the aura of self-gratification this guy puts off in every video. I absolutely loathe those kind of people who always think they're in the right no matter what and if you disagree you're wrong and he seems like the perfect example of that. I think he's funny sometimes but most of the time I can't get through a few minutes without cringing and closing the video.
You're right, antagonizing might not be the best. Instead, he should get some REAL stickers and stick them on the windshield. Let these assholes piss and cry, and let them drive back home to their families with the hard-to-remove sticker on so their family and neighbours can see the assholes they are, while they spend the rest of their day trying to remove the sticker. Anyway, some antagonizing is the _least_ these people deserve.
