"We don't have homophobia in our town" is a sentence that can't be spoken anywhere in Canada, America or anywhere. This is why I love Schitt's Creek so so much! Normalizing the idea that being homophobic is wrong is so so important, along with so many other ways of viewing the world. I truly hope the message of love which this show endorses is embraced by the world.
Started watching this show because I wanted a laugh - and there are more than plenty of those. But I never expected it to be such a brilliant, thoughtful, and moving experience. You just never know. Life can surprise you
In both of the scenes talked about here, viewers get to see David be the strong one, at least for a moment. Patrick has always stepped up and been strong for David, but these 2 scenes show that it's not a one sided relationship. David is willing to step up and be strong for Patrick, and that's what will keep them together.
I’ve never liked a show as much as Schitt’s Creek. I’ve never felt as safe as when I’m in its world. I’ve never known love as free to grow as when I’m watching it. It’s not been an easy few months for any of us, but knowing that it will always be there for us makes everything ok. Thanks to Dan, Eugene and all the cast, crew and writers for creating this perfect gem of a show that has shown us how beautiful the world could be. We will forever be indebted to you for the joy you have given us in 22 minute segments and I wish you nothing but the best of luck with all your future endeavours.
Patrick’s coming out scene (and story in general) really struck a cord with me and my experience. Thank you to Dan for writing and capturing the importance of a moment like this.
I wept openly the first time I watched it because that is what I would've wanted for my sister, and she didn't get to have that experience with out parents.
four gold rings were such a cherry on the top. and the best thing about this show and the town is that there's no homophobia. it's so refreshing to see a world like this and out of habit I had anticipated at least once or twice that there would be a scene like this but I am glad that I was proved wrong.
Dan Levy your talent blows me away, your heart and soul and your eloquent way of speaking about the details of each character and the show are beyond amazing. I love you so much. #1 on my bucket list is to work with you and give you a hug in person.
Having grown up in a very homophobic town and family in NC, I’m grateful for the creators FOR HAVING developED a place and environment whereas the characters can come out without trepidation or fear is comforting for all our futures. Dan Levy is a genius. I’m hopeful for my younger gay fellows still growing up in my hometown to find this. It’s easy to run to the supportive communities. It’s courageous to live in these other communities and be oneself and express that being vulnerable to ones not so accepting. I currently live in the safe bubble of SF, CA. Talk about isolated. Maybe time to be courageous.

I laugh! I cry! What an amazing show!!! Watching David’s character grow and seeing the relationship between he and Patrick... I mean my goodness ❤️ I grew up watching and loving Eugene Levy and now there’s Daniel who is just as incredible.
I NEEED to know the realism of life can come with emotional optimism and this show made me feel that. Especially need that rn to get through the end of 2020.
What amazed me the most about the show is I can’t believe how much cloth the family managed to grab when they were given 15 mins to pack their belongings at the beginning. So basically everybody grabbed enough cloth in 15 mins that will last them 6 seasons without having to wear anything twice.
Go back and rewatch. There are different scenes where they recycle wardrobe. And if you look in the background at their closets, you can see things that they've worn in other episodes.
Dan Levy is a genius, the relationship between David and Patrick is the best gay love story in a comedy ever, but why did you have to add that awful background music?

I had known about him doing a podcast on EW from his Twitter, and I had been watching These as soon as they had been being posted, but I hadn't listened to any of the podcast eps until last night so I hadn't known that these were just parts of the podcasts that were filmed. Now having listened to all the podcast eps, I Really hope we get more of these filmed vids from these interviews :))
I only came to Schitts Creek quite recently and it was lovely to watch each of these companion pieces after every season. I hope they do one for season six so we have the full set.
I didn't find David's behaviour odd, I simply chalked it up to the power of their loving each other. They transcended their personality fears through each other.

I hate that homophobia is even a thing. I have 5 children and the only thing I want for them is happiness and to be surrounded by people who love them. They love me and make me happy, why wouldn't I want that for them?
Easy to see why David would be attracted to Patrick. No way to understand why a stable Patrick would be attracted to an emotional trainwreck David. IRL a stable type is sometimes motivated to "save" the weaker one. But since David is really a self-portrait of Dan Levy the writer, no such self-reflection is possible. Neither Dan Levy nor David can admit they need an emotionally saving strong man. So the relationship comes off hokie and unreal. When Patrick sings Simply the Best, it is touching, but the viewer is left wondering wtf he is talking about. David is an emotionally stunted adolescent whose parents were virtually nonexistent in his life. David has no clue what love is and is embarrassed by it. So in what way as a boyfriend could he be simply the best. Obviously, this is Dan Levy's grossly unrealistic fantasy.
I understand what you're saying, but I think this is exactly why so many people resonate with the characters - David is a weird, anxious, deeply flawed person, but Patrick sees through all that to his good heart underneath and loves him anyway. We see David grow into a mature, supportive partner as their relationship develops and he starts to believe that he's worthy of being loved for the first time.
