Trust me, I've seen the early days of cancel culture. Like, had this one person all but spit on Bon Jovi and all but said that anyone who liked them and their music were stupid. Essentially, trying to shame people into turning away from music they liked to follow the "right" music. Ticked me off to all hell.
Bon Jovi? Well, momma always said "if you have nothing nice to say..." so I won't say anymore. 🤣 Really, I'm 46, so of course I don't hate all BJ songs... just more into actual metal. I hear you about cancel culture, I'll talk shot about a group/singer that I don't like, but why would I give a duck what other people listen to. Doesn't make sense in my head, we'd have no decent music if everyone liked the same stuff!
@@Mike_H76 Well, this person pretty much fit the definition of a "mean girl" so pretty sure she was used to influencing people via her opinion alone. And I feel the same. The only time I really have issues with people liking music that I don't is when I have to listen to it for extended periods of time. I'm a cranky 52 these days and I still don't try to impose my tastes and opinions on others.

Got ya, that's not cool at all. The extended periods you speak of depends on the music for me... 80's glam I can tolerate for a good while, it feels nostalgic at this point. Country NAH, Grateful Dead is ok for a bit as long as RIPPLE doesn't come on (good song, but jammed in my ears when I was younger).
I don't like to force music, but I do always want to "turn people on" to new, to me, stuff I find (lately... mainly The Pretty Reckless, Aurora, Eric Gales, Larkin Poe). My lady hates rap, but tolerates a little bit of "you gotta hear this" from me... oddly my 71 yr old mom is more receptive to the genre. It's a catch 22... if I don't play rap, she won't play post-punk whiny The Offspring or Tori Amos (who was actually pretty good in concert).
Metal Mike... listing "new" finds that are NOT metal. My tastes have softened in these golden years. TPR has a good sound, raw hard rock mostly... best sounding on live recordings. Aurora is an emotional roller coaster that some would call "pop" but she's so much more. Gales is just a kick arse blues guitarist, Larkin Poe very blues influence with a wild lap slide guitarist.

You should do some Janis Joplin 💪Funny enough, she's in my Top 3 favorite music artists with Eminem and Tupac. Weird arrangement but that's how it is, for me.
If ya do any Janis, start with "Ball and Chain" live at the Monterrey Pop Festival 1967 or "Piece of My Heart". She went on stage virtually unknown in 1967 Monterrey Pop Festival and left the audience with their jaws dropped.
She changed the face of Blues Rock and Rock and Roll. She only had a 3 to 4 year career before she unfortunately passed in 1970 at 27...but she changed the face of what Rock and Blues were. Unconventional, a true rebel and free spirit. Before her, popular female singers were mostly country, or gospel and were expected to dress, talk and behave in a certain proper way. But when Janis came, she broke down all those barriers. In just 3-4 years, she has left a massive legacy in music in general.
Basically, in my personal opinion, Janis changed Rock and the Blues in the same way Eminem changed Rap and Hip-Hop. Both came from bullied, tortured, unhappy childhoods, both struggled with acceptance in the music they loved, and both became hooked on drugs because of it, both achieved high success and popularity and became legends because both changed the faces of their respective genres, as well as they both put ALL that they had into their music. But whereas Eminem broke down the language and color barrier of Rap and Hip-Hop with his lyricism and being white, Janis, being a white female, broke down the gender, color and vocal barriers of Rock and Blues. At the time, there were no popular female Rock singer and most Blues singers were African-American. Then Janis came along in 1967 and changed all that, with her soulful, beautiful, passionate, painful and fun, honest Rock/Bluesy raspy voice. Today, by many, she's regarded as the Queen of Rock and the Blues.
