Fanta Orange by Declan McDonagh
Mattie was the heartbeat of the local area; a loyal friend, a kind and generous neighbour, always honest and upright, a supreme card-drive host and a fair and firm adjudicator in dissension or dispute in cards and a reliable taxi for his many friends after a night out.
He was a skilled and tasteful farmer who dedicated his life to his parish and community. A founding member of the Cloughanover Community Centre, he coordinated all local activities over the years, including the grotto and the graveyard.
He was caretaker of Cloughanover Primary School, a dedicated member of St. Mary's Church Choir and Church Steward, a life-long pioneer, an avid local historian and photographer, a keen Galway and Headford GAA Supporter, who lived his life to the full in a spirit of generosity and community service.
He made an unparalleled contribution to his local area and is mourned by the entire community.
