That 2008 win was truly incredible. As James Allen commentated, he was sometimes SIX seconds a lap faster than others on the intermediates. He won by a full 68 seconds, and lapped everyone bar Heidfeld and Barrichello on the podium beside him (both very good wet-weather drivers in their own right), including the two Ferraris, the car that won the Constructors' championship that year. We complain about F1 being all about the car these days, but sometimes the driver still makes the last vital difference, and it certainly showed at Silverstone that day.
Props to Lewis for winning that race in such a *dominant* fashion but they would not be allowed to race under those terrible conditions today. Jules Bianchi's death was a reminder that you can never be too careful.

I remember last year where he said "these are the best fans" at almost every track.
I find funny how people criticize his personality yet doesn't acknowledge that his mindset behind the wheel is rock solid, he rarely makes mistakes or cracks under pressure. That says much more about someone's true character than what we hear in interviews. Actions speak louder than words. Hamilton is an exceptionally skilled and refined driver.
I also don't understand what's to criticize about his personality tho? He is confident and of course competitive but other than that he does nothing wrong. He lives his life and, contrary to popular belief, he's humble too

I will proudly tell my grandchildren that i was born in the era of Lewis Hamilton, the greatest F1 driver of all time. People are witnessing something legendary and don't even recognise that nor how lucky they're to have seen it all because of their fascination for the past and not living in the present.

He is yet to become the greatest of all time. Schumacher still holds that title until at least 2021 and many other records that Lewis still has to beat. He won't be able to beat those in the near future. He will probably become a 6x world champion this year and quite possibly the next year but then he will still be tied to Schumacher. 2021 brings big changes and we have no clue how they will work for the drivers. It could very well mean that Mercedes will fall off quite considerably after the rule change. So calling him the greatest driver of all time at this stage is quite early. Its F1 after all and a lot can happen.

We’re watching one of the greatest drivers to ever live cement his legacy, folks. Like him or not, everyone should appreciate bearing witness to what Hamilton has been able to do over the last decade. He’s going to be remembered in the same breath as Schumacher one day

2016 tbh was when they slowly fell off you could see it in 2017 they were only quick on tracks that required low downforce but 2018 car was abysmal and they have to rebuild now

I love how much he loves winning at home, you can feel it genuinely means so much to him. Been a huge fan since he went round the outside of Alonso at Australia in his first race. I said then and there he'd win a lot but 5 titles 80 wins? I'm still constantly amazed... well and delighted to watch him take his 6th British GP win last weekend.

I saw this incredible stat years ago and found further details on it. Hamilton’s first and second Silverstone wins both happened on the 6th July (2008 and 2014). Those years he won his first and second titles. He ‘passed’ his team-mate to to take the lead both times. The driver whom finished 2nd was in a mainly white and blue car (Heidfeld in ‘08, Bottas in ‘14). The third place driver was of Italian descent (Barrichello in 2008, Ricciardo in 2014). Certainly their Grandparents. On the same day each time, the Wimbledon Men’s final was being held in SW19 (GP and Wimbledon finals weekend frequently does). Roger Federer lost a five-set thriller. In both 2008 and 2014 he lost/the match ended when he hit the ball in to the net handing the title to his opponent (Nadal in 2008/Djokovic in 2014). Personally, found that incredible/spooky how virtually identical the two were.

But I must say that considering current drivers have more experience in Karting from younger ages and more often through to the sheer amount of simulator work they do as well as personal fitness, a driver like Senna would not be as quick as the fastest of drivers today. These young drivers are proving it so by pushing out a lot of the “older” bunch and I believe a lot of this is down to their simulator experience and knowledge

2015 was the first time I saw a British driver win the British GP, and as I watched Lewis on the podium down on the start finish straight, with the incredible crowd around me cheering him non stop, I just knew from that point that my dream is to become a racing driver, and maybe stand on that top step myself one day.

I liked the 2009 race, too.
Really, his dice with Alonso, Piquet, Heidfeld, Kubica, Sutil, Kovalainen, Buemi and Bourdais, all to avoid being last on track, that was exciting to watch. That McLaren on that track was god awful, and he finished 16th out of 18 on track, but still had a good fight with BMW, Renault, Force India and Toro Rosso.
Excellent video. Lewis is really starting to get his Senna-esque moments as he reflects back on his career but in his own special way. A well deserved champion.
