Gimp and Krita are free to download and use. Gimp is basically PS and a little more user-friendly. Krita is better for actual drawing, but lacks some of Gimp's more user-friendly color features. A friend of mine recently told me Adobe is going so far as to threaten fines and imprisonment for old copies of their software. These are legit copies, but outdate. There's always a free alternative. =)
You're totally right! For the price (which is 0$) these apps are great alternatives :) Also I hope they wouldn't go so far because a lot of people still using it and they will suffer because they bought and used an official license
I was a longtime PS user. It was my first Painting software ever. Now I cancelled my adobe subscription last week. It makes me angry and sad how corporate greed destroyed a great programm. (Yes PS has its weakpoints but so has any other artporgramm) I sorta saw it coming too and slowly made the switch to CSP over the last year or so. As well as Affinity suite for grapgic design. ^^
Cancel fees have always been greedy. There's no need for them at all if you're leaving. I used Premiere pro off and on and the cancel fees have always gotten in the way since payments are automatic and I have to cancel myself. Sometimes I miss the automatic date and get stuck for another month, or simply need extra money to cancel. 40 monthly, plus 20 to stop = 60 right now. I switched to Davinci, Photoshop to Krita, and Gimp does the same. Realized using Adobe was just a brand hold.
The same here! I’ve chosen Davinci Resolve over Premiere and this is a whole other world - free version does mostly everything and the paid is one time payment, I think it’s great 😊
Was kind surprised to see you practice on Joshua Bridgman's stuff. Mostly because I did the same thing on paper month or so ago, although I'm just a beginner. About Adobe: only find alternatives or, at the very least, use a BETTER version of their products ;-)
I love Bridgeman's construction and also interpretation of him by TenTen (you can find him on Artstation)! Right now I'm getting used to CSP, it takes a bit of time and practical tasks, but as far as I can see right now - it's great for my kind of work :)
I literally have only one experience with (any version of) Adobe Photoshop. All I needed to do was open an image, perform some minor exposure adjustments (e.g. curves) and save a new copy, but for the life of scouring the menubar I just _could not_ find any recognizable command to perform that one simple task. Unfortunately, my anecdote is too old to remember much in the way of specific details. It _might_ have been when nondestructive "adjustment layers" were still a new feature.
I knew it. Even large artists like Lavendertowne, Mohammed Abgadi, Louixie, Tenelle Flowers Even Northflowo and so many more use stuff like Clipstudio, Paint tool Sai, Fire Alpaca and heck, even Toon Boom isn't as shady as Adobe! Im currently using Fire Alpaca for animation and drawing, and I've done decent. If i get money, Id get Clip Studio and Toon Boom IMMEDIATELY.
The only thing that keeps me using Adobe Suite is all the plugins I have that makes my workflow so much smoother.. especially with After Effects, there is no replacement for this especially when it comes to motion design and motion graphics
Glad I stopped using Adobe since 2019 after I graduated. The subscription system and costs are ridiculous. I now use both the Affinity programs and Medibang Paint Pro. And with how Adobe is promoting their AI ""art"" features and dealings, they've really gone off the deep end. I feel like they don't care about the love and creation for art anymore. Glad so many people are abandoning the Adobe ship. They're in for a rude awakening, realizing that they're no longer the big boys around and it's all their own fault.
I totally agree with you! And you've made a great choice of apps you're using :) Right now I see a lot more awakened creators, who start to see the whole situation and it's great in my opinion!
The three big rules when dealing with Adobe: Don't give them money. Never let ANY of their software connect to the network unless it strictly has to. Be prepared to burn whatever you pay them with if you break rule number 1.
I REALLY don’t like drawing in photoshop. Idk what it is, but the problems I notice with it are multiplied by Adobe’s business practices. Rebelle is on sale, I feel weightless when I use it, and, it’s a one time purchase that’s on sale right now. That’s one less adobe program I’m using.
But yeah Photoshop was my main tool between 2011-2018. 18s when I got an iPad and started drawing on that one instead. I was using medibang on there, though I recently found out they have sus data collection so now I'm trying to move over to roughAnimator since it's made by a single guy and not a company. It can't do any painting only drawing but I like drawing more anyhow
@@WolfJarl I can relate 😅 In this kind of situations I try to recognize which app is more convenient in my particular type of work (what features you 100% will use) and it’s much easier to decide 😊
In my opinion adobe fresco and photoshop where such good drawing programs and bow adobe fresco which can be free unless you pay for extra stuff. probably its gonna force you to pay monthly or yearly (I got a photoshop add after this)
remembering the time 4 years ago when i thought I'd eventually upgrade to adobe products in my creative journey. now I don't really know what to do but I'm loving blender
I've not long started my 'career' in graphic design: Just finished the education and not yet professional in practice (i.e. earning) but professional in set-up (e.g. profile, website etc.). Having a bad experience near the end I had only the previous month renewed the annual subscription before deciding not to continue in graphic design at all, so I wanted to cancel Adobe altogether. In the live chat they were offering me several free months after they had reluctantly agree to cancel my membership with full refund. They wanted to keep my money even though my annual membership would be cancelled with 10 months still to run. So I simply argued with them and said I wanted to go to their competitor (literally using those words, so they knew why I was leaving). After about an hour of trying to sell shampoo to a bald man, they agreed the full refund and cancellation. The following week was the big "terms & conditions" story about Adobe using your images for free. It just confiemed my decision to leave graphic design, although I have calmed down and returned but bought Affinity.
I use Krita for my drawing and painting. I left CSP when updates stopped being free and Krita got better. I will probably start paying a few dollars worth of money a year to contribute to the development as time is not free for developers even on free software.
Funny, i remember dropping clip studio paint flr procreate because they announced they were gojng subscription model, so did they go back on what they said ? Because almost no one seems to acknowledge their scummy business decision back in 2022 Either way im sticking to procreate because its better than both of them
They still offer perpetual licenses on major releases. They offer an optional subscription if you want the little updates in between. I currently have the sub. It's cheaper than perpetual licensing, at around $11 USD/year. It's comparable to one month of Adobe's photography plan.
I just bought a new license for CSP. I already have CSP 1 license, but the upgrade price is too high, so I'd rather buy new one lol. I wish flash is still a thing, especially in the macromedia flash mx era. There was a dedicated software to read flash files to both play games or watch animations. Such a dreamy time.
@@dreamingacacia Yes, it was! We should now try to find this feeling of fun which we felt while doing the stuff we love! Even if this feeling is subtle and even if we have a very limited time to do this stuff. Bit by bit this feel will start to improve your life and therefore the life of others! I believe that this is the only way we can make the world a better place ☺
I think because my family was so poor that my two dreams were epically held back for YEARS tho I started as a teenaged I am now almost 40. One was the practices from Adobe and the other was from Maya.
@@ArseniKatsela it is a scam because they offered the perpetual license, promised you would not need to buy anything else, people got it and then later they switched to a subscription model out of the blue, making the perpetual license obsolete and if you want any of the "new" features that are not new really since Adobe Animate already had most.of those features, Clip Studi was just lacking. So yeah its a scam, not as big a scam as Adobe, but hardly a good alternative if what you are looking at is to ditch Adobe for their business practices.
@gabrielWachong I respect your position! However I now use a perpetual license and it has all the functions I need and I don’t need to buy any subscription
@@ArseniKatsela you probably don't need all the functions, but that makes you a minority aa a profesional animator, since many of those features are basic for Adobe Animate. In any case it is not a good replacement for Adobe, neither in features nor on business practices. I too own a perpetual licence for Clip Studio and it is worthless to me without the features of the paid subscription, so now I paid Clip Studio but also need to pay Adobe or start paying subscription to Clip for a sub par product when compared to Adobe.
Went to cancel and decided to pay the cancellation fee because it wasn't *that* big - I got offered FREE 2 MONTHS to stop me from leaving. I went to research if that comes with strings attached. And I had to go do that on my own because there isn't a single disclaimer or link on the offer that tells you. It does come with strings attached - IF YOU ACCEPT THE FREE 2 MONTHS YOU ARE EXTENDING THE SUB FOR ANOTHER YEAR.
I used to use pirated SAI and when I decided to try an actual paid one I was between Adobe and CSP, I did my research and I swear every single time it just gets worse for Adobe. Now that I heard about all the issues with the IAs its just... yucky. So glad I bought my license for CSP 2 years ago, it's the best investment I have made for my art.
adobe (and almost all other software companies) views their customer base with the same contempt as a con man has for their victims. this is the way they've been for decades. open source programs may not be as sexy, but they honestly treat their customers as if the need them...
Krita is a great app :) Draw for your soul and draw what you like and results and knowledge will come unexpectedly! This is what I've learned and it's the best thing that's working! Wish you all the best! :)
My own experience with Adobe products? _None!_ Never wanted to pay three figures when photoshop was a one-off payment. When they moved to a subscription model, I thought that was even more of a ripoff. (Ditto for Lightroom when I got into photography) Adobe's current shenanigans are shocking, but not entirely surprising. I limped along with free or very cheap software: GIMP on PC and Artflow on my Samsung Tab S7+. I currently use Clip Studio Paint for Android. Yeah, it's a subscription too, but _much_ less grasping than Adobe. (What was it? Something like £20 a year? So little that I barely worry about it.) I use that for tweaking jpeg photos too, but if I ever get around to getting that laptop and pen display setup I've been thinking of, I'll probably get Affinity for editing RAW photo files. Oh, and use that copy of Rebelle 7 I bought but have nothing to run on just yet...
Actually didn't realise there was a credit system with their AI nonsense - in software you pay a monthly fee for!? And then they have the audacity to steal YOUR artwork to train THEIR AI that YOU only have limited access to!? I've been using photoshop since version 3 (or 2, can't remember lol, it was the version that first introduced the ''Undo'' feature, yep, Undo was a novelty at one point) and never thought this company would fall so low. Hit the high seas I reckon, or better still, use open source, or pay less shady companies.

I've got in this trap twice :) But I really don't like companies who use this kind of shadow marketing, it means that they don't care about a customer, so I did the same as you and left!
Truth, it's hard to make a change on the typical companies level. Can corporations even leave Adobe? A company sends files to a press. Can the press even accept non-adobe files. Something can be lost in translation if files are created in non-adobe software. It's been a long time since I worked in the arts field.
Adobe has really positioned itself as a corporation software and left the consumer market. I use it at work but when I setup a personal account I realized how unfriendly and cost prohibitive it is.
What is worse is the new terms of service you cannot refuse which gives A*shatdobe the right to train their AI on your creative works. Apparently, what is theirs is theirs, and what is yours is also theirs.

@hectorruiz5270 Fully agree with you, I want to own stuff I buy! The same going on with video games, more and more companies starting saying that players don’t own anything and “asking” for a subscription model
@@ArseniKatsela yes, we need more offline app like back then.
There are too many software tha are using subscription, and online cloud based, I don't like it
@@hectorruiz5270 yeah it feels like scam, we buy it, but we need to be online, must be in that platform, renting license (when it's said "buy") and it's drm...
Just say rent, don't dilute or muddying "buy" word, unfortunately many companies does that
The only silver lining is FOSS , it's like old software, where we own our software, we need to support it so it doesn't become dead project. 😞
And hopefully can stop compromising/ supporting the subscription based where they can just cut off our program whenever they want
For the price (which is 0$) these apps are great alternatives :)
Also I hope they wouldn't go so far because a lot of people still using it and they will suffer because they bought and used an official license
Yes, Photoshop was a great app for a long time, but now there is a ton of great apps out there! And you've choose a great combination :)
Krita ftw!
Tried it too, great app and it's free :)
I want to ask for a long video about proportions and anatomy.
It's in the plans for the future videos :)
That can be an entire course in itself, not just a single video!
@@dcarbs2979 It is :)
I’ve chosen Davinci Resolve over Premiere and this is a whole other world - free version does mostly everything and the paid is one time payment, I think it’s great 😊
Do you know where I can get a hold of the references youve used for the video? They look really helpful.
Of course! It's a Complete Guide to Drawing from Life by Bridgman. It's an old book, but you can find it in pdf!
@@ArseniKatsela Cheers, I love the way you construct your figures and want to sort of emulate that.
@@arakami8547 You're welcome :) Also check out an artist called TenTen on Artstation he uses this method too, very cool way to construct :)
Was kind surprised to see you practice on Joshua Bridgman's stuff. Mostly because I did the same thing on paper month or so ago, although I'm just a beginner. About Adobe: only find alternatives or, at the very least, use a BETTER version of their products ;-)
I actually remember bying the Adobe Animate licence - one of my worst mistakes
I love Bridgeman's construction and also interpretation of him by TenTen (you can find him on Artstation)!
Right now I'm getting used to CSP, it takes a bit of time and practical tasks, but as far as I can see right now - it's great for my kind of work :)
When I first started my art career, it was a dilemma between photoshop and clip studio, from where I’m standing now, I’m glad I picked the latter
I’m glad that you didn’t spend a lot on it! Thank you for your story ☺️

Yes, because all of them are seeing the situation and Adobe’s attitude! So buy other software is a great choice!
The only thing that keeps me using Adobe Suite is all the plugins I have that makes my workflow so much smoother.. especially with After Effects, there is no replacement for this especially when it comes to motion design and motion graphics
It's fair enough :)
After Effects really is holding a lot of people back from switching. I hope an alternative comes soon. 😢
I got the exact same pop up window, but 2 weeks passed and i can again use it. But now that you mentioned it this is disturbing..
It really is!
And you've made a great choice of apps you're using :)
Right now I see a lot more awakened creators, who start to see the whole situation and it's great in my opinion!
The three big rules when dealing with Adobe:
Don't give them money.
Never let ANY of their software connect to the network unless it strictly has to.
Be prepared to burn whatever you pay them with if you break rule number 1.
I think these are the nice rules :D
I REALLY don’t like drawing in photoshop. Idk what it is, but the problems I notice with it are multiplied by Adobe’s business practices. Rebelle is on sale, I feel weightless when I use it, and, it’s a one time purchase that’s on sale right now. That’s one less adobe program I’m using.
I heard of Rebelle! I guess someday I'll try it because of their pigments engine!
Yes, it's better to know what data you give an access of and who will use it! So it's a great point!
I never used Photoshop to begin with; I started with Paint Tool SAI and SAI2, then switched to Clip Studio Pro and honestly they're both fine.
I'm glad that you've avoided it! Btw your chosen apps are great :)
@@ArseniKatsela I know, I still have trouble deciding which one is better!
@@WolfJarl I can relate 😅 In this kind of situations I try to recognize which app is more convenient in my particular type of work (what features you 100% will use) and it’s much easier to decide 😊
I moved to KRITA! and have never looked back. Free, brilliant and easy to move to from PS.
It's really is, I'm glad that you found your app :)
In my opinion adobe fresco and photoshop where such good drawing programs and bow adobe fresco which can be free unless you pay for extra stuff. probably its gonna force you to pay monthly or yearly

I think so too!
It's funny how much Adobe's ads people see on this video :D

I think you've made a great choice to leave Adobe! Wish you luck in graphic design, keep up! :)
@@ArseniKatsela Thanks
Same here. Not using anything Adobe out of principle any more.
I fully support you and I’ve done the same!
I use Krita for my drawing and painting. I left CSP when updates stopped being free and Krita got better. I will probably start paying a few dollars worth of money a year to contribute to the development as time is not free for developers even on free software.
Great point ☺️
5:12 *reads* they offer you discounts for pirating their stuff? 😂
:D
Welcome to the revolution!

Funny, i remember dropping clip studio paint flr procreate because they announced they were gojng subscription model, so did they go back on what they said ?
Because almost no one seems to acknowledge their scummy business decision back in 2022
Either way im sticking to procreate because its better than both of them
Right now you can buy a full version as a one-time purchase as well as buy a subscription! I’ve chosen a one-time purchase :)
They still offer perpetual licenses on major releases. They offer an optional subscription if you want the little updates in between. I currently have the sub. It's cheaper than perpetual licensing, at around $11 USD/year. It's comparable to one month of Adobe's photography plan.
I use Krita as an alternative
It's a great choice :)
Got an Adobe ad for this video, hilarious.
Haha, that's really funny :D Thanks for sharing it here!
Yes. Take their money. Eat it. Don't let them know they'll never get you back.
I remember it! Played so much flash games at that time!
Thank you for reminding me it :)

Perpetual license of Clip Studio is a scam too. they moved to subscription model not long ago.
Why it is a scam if you can buy a perpetual license and use it forever? You can choose not to buy a subscription
@@ArseniKatsela just look for videos about the backlash of Clip studios switch to subscription model.
Sounds ridiculous!

It's really the best investment :)
adobe (and almost all other software companies) views their customer base with the same contempt as a con man has for their victims. this is the way they've been for decades. open source programs may not be as sexy, but they honestly treat their customers as if the need them...
I wish the open source apps will continue to develop! So if we have spare maney it's better to support your favourite app and developers!
Pirating photoshop since 2012, not stopping anytime soon ✌🏼

I think it would be a great combination of apps to use! And I'm impressed by CSP's subscription prices, it sounds fair and reasonable :)
I got Clip Studio Paint while it was on sale because of you. Thank you! Adobe is evil, I’m glad I didn’t give them any money.
You're welcome :)
Yes, it's a sad reality :(
It's something the majority of artists should have done a long time ago, but they get stuck with it because it is deemed "the industry standard"
You're totally right!

I had photo shop for 9 month and really liked it for the ai. Stable diffusion in comfui etc. frustrated me. But tricking me into an yearly subscription shocked me. No sketchy website has succeeded in that before... So goodbye Adobe
I've got in this trap twice :)
But I really don't like companies who use this kind of shadow marketing, it means that they don't care about a customer, so I did the same as you and left!
Sail the sea my brothers
They are the industry standard. Corporate customers will pay. No questions asked. Adobe has them by the balls.
Truth, it's hard to make a change on the typical companies level.
I've actually saw a video on LMG Clips channel about how Adobe let companies to increase users number in the Adobe's company plan, BUT they use the same trick with the companies as they do with the simple users. They DON'T write ANYTHING about that if the company will need to decrease the number of users (if somebody got fired) - they just can't do it until the license of this exact user will expire within one year. So the company should pay the whole period even if nobody is using this "seat".
Can corporations even leave Adobe? A company sends files to a press. Can the press even accept non-adobe files. Something can be lost in translation if files are created in non-adobe software. It's been a long time since I worked in the arts field.
It’s one of her possible reasons why they can’t leave!
Adobe has really positioned itself as a corporation software and left the consumer market. I use it at work but when I setup a personal account I realized how unfriendly and cost prohibitive it is.
It really is!
What is worse is the new terms of service you cannot refuse which gives A*shatdobe the right to train their AI on your creative works.
Apparently, what is theirs is theirs, and what is yours is also theirs.
