  • Poor lane discipline and lane hogging are the two bad driving habits that annoy me the most. Can there ever be an excuse for hogging the middle lane ?
In this Monday Torque I give you my view and ask for your thoughts.

The most annoying thing on the U.K. roads is when people overtake me then immediately turns off

It's just a case of them not even thinking. There is no proactive thought going on. So what is more worrying is not the lane discipline, but the lack of concentrating while driving discipline. What else might happen whilst they are not thinking....?

Driving standards have, generally speaking, been on a downturn for years. Lack of awareness, lack of consideration, lack of skill, all equals frustration. Welcome to UK driving 2020.......

I totally agree! Next subject: those that vary their speed so much that one minute they come flying past and then slow down so much that you overtake them a mile down the road even though you are using cruise control.

Anybody who thinks you can only overtake on left (undertake) in congested traffic doesn't understand the Highway Code. And I'd say there are many of them commenting on here.

Instead of having "Sign Not In Use" over the motorway, put it into use with "Keep Left Unless Overtaking" as a reminder to these lazy folk.

If you undertake police will allow it if it's done safely it's a bit of a grey area but if you are weaving to get forward that is frowned on undertaking is allowed on motorways

Why won't half of drivers use their indicators properly - before, during and after changing lanes, at roundabouts, and turning at junctions. And a minimum of three flashes !

sitting in the middle lane doing 65mph basically turns a motorway into a dual carriageway education is needed when i overtake a lane hogger i immediately swing back into lane 1 and they still dont get the hint just pure ignorance

The 40mph club on A-roads. Not only do they stay at 40 no matter if the limit is 30 or 60mph, but they also pull out in front of you at junctions forcing you to brake. Why the urgency to have to pull out right away in front of you and then stay at 40mph everywhere??? 🤬

I think you'll find those are the same people who stand in the middle of supermarket aisles, walk into you on the pavement and dont indicate. Selfish ignorant and rude!

I think it’s another symptom of the decreasing driving standards in the UK. I believe that folks sit in the middle lane because it can be difficult to change lanes as everyone now insists on driving so close. My view has always been that driving is a skill which needs to be learnt, practiced and developed; it seems that most others don’t feel the same and instead choose to drive around in a semi-comatose state, unaware of anything happening around them. Driving in Europe, especially Germany, is far more enjoyable than driving in the UK.

You can legally undertake someone in the UK as long as you haven't intentionally moved into a lane to your left to do so... if they're in lane two and are going slower than the speed limit you can pass them quite legally on their left as long as you aren't breaking the speed limit and didn't change lanes to do exactly that. People are selfish and don't give a f*ck about anyone else... and then they wonder why there's congestion?!

I hate it when they overtake and cut back in too early and steal my safe braking distance

Oh come on! Its hard enough trying to send a text when you're driving without having to keep changing lanes all the time. 😄

These are the same half wits who resist switching lights on in even the most appalling conditions........then when they come off the motorway they sit on a derestricted A or B road at 45 , then when they come to a 30 limit they vanish in to the blue beyond still at 45.

I used to drive from Norfolk to Angus and back every weekend I used to get annoyed by these people for all the reasons given on video and comments.
