Hi Greg thanks for taking the time to make this Vlogg its so important for anyone who sets out to sea really should have and know how to use a Marine VHF Radio, best regards and keep safe Paul @ Seavoice Training
Range varies with conditions but also vhf is mainly line of site as are most radios, however if you can see a radio mast on land, usually you can contact the coastguard at the very least.
@@miketexas4549 i think you would need a fixed vhf with more power and bigger antenna, best thing to do is to ask icom to see what system they have to suit your needs they are very helpful 🙌
@@gregmarthabutler Rodger that. I do have a fixed on my sailboat with a mast mounted antenna, I'm just wondering how much protection I would have in the event it craps the bed and I had to go to the hand held as a back up.
@@miketexas4549 ye in that instance and you are in trouble, i would be looking at an epirb, this sends out a signal of distress anywhere in the world, the hand held radio can be a backup for any vessels close by
I have the same VHF but the M25 EURO. I have been looking for that hidden transparent flashing section on the bottom of the unit and no matter how close I look I still can't see it. Neat how they hide it like that but thanks to your independent test I know it works:-) Anyway, how fast will 300hp on a small rib take you? About 40kns maybe? Interesting video.

Hello sir what kind of range (radius) can you expect with a hand held radio like yours?

@@gregmarthabutler Do you think it would reach shore if you were 20 miles out with perfect weather?
