Town beach is a nice place to sit and watch the sea but really Matara doesnt have much going for it,just a nondescript kind of place tho a small g/house I stayed at about 5 mins from the centre going towards Polhenna had a good beach right at the end of the property and easy access to the bus/train stations,owner was a friendly guy too.
