    I use my crf 300 for hard enduro and dropped it like 100+ times and it’s still fine.
    It just rolled off to a valley while I parked it on a trail 2 days ago. I went forward and when I came back I saw it in the valley. Managed to get it back and no major damage.

    Just a week ago, I had this same problem happen on my '22 300L Rally: it was a no speed drop onto rock and gravel. It became stuck in 1st, and we were way bak in the woods. Luckily, after many tries, we were able to hand pull the slightly bent aftermarket lever enough, to get into 3rd. Once back on tarmac, we managed to jimmy it up into 5th. Stuck in that gear, I managed to ride it home. Fortunately, the shift spindle isn't an expensive part, and the replacement procedure is fairly straightforward, so no biggie. The worrying aspect, though, is how easily this happened.
    It sounds like the majority of these occurrences have happened with aftermarket cast aluminum levers hat are much stronger, so they'll transfer any blunt force into the spindle. The stock pedal is softer steel, which will bend or break. I'll be switching back to the stock steel lever, and will now keep a spare one in with the tools.

      Hey buddy I'm replying to this because literally two days ago I had to fix my shifter spindle due to a relatively low speed crash I slid about 20 ft in the rain on my way to work it wasn't anything serious but it was the stock lever and just like you had I was stuck in first.
      This is really just a crappy design on the part of Honda stock or not stock so do not blame your aftermarket lever

  • @Scoottoots
    @Scoottoots 2 ปีที่แล้ว +10

    That's one reason why the soft metal shift levers from Honda are best to use. The aluminum shift lever stresses the spindle. Many others have bent the spindle, etc., due to the stiffer aftermarket levers. Just my opinion of course. And that brake lever is aftermarket as well, so not really Honda's issue. The soft brake and shift levers that are stock don't break, they just bend and are easy to bend back again on the trail.

      I have the stock levers and foot controls and I am unable to change down gears so I believe it is a Honda issue. The spindle does not seem up to the task of trail riding. I will have to look at fabricating some sort of lever guard or we cannot use our bikes for their intended purpose. I am disappointed.

      I completely disagree because I am fully stocked and the same thing happened to me I had to spend 6 hours figuring out watching TH-cam videos how to replace my lever luckily I was able to get it done but this is not the reason I bought a Honda.

It's so hard to find actual real world data for anything even slightly new these days, I'm not interested in this particular bike but if I was videos like this would help me out tremendously - it's not even comparable to when reviewers use it for a week or two and then draw conclusions.

    There seems to be some different bikes with selector issues. Its frustrating. The most recent one I've dealt with was on a klx250 where the selector is on the shifter side. It was due to a poorly designed selector were the dowels shear off randomly. It is replaced with a enforced replacement part and it works fine now. I hope it doesn't give you any more trouble.

    Your right about a dual sport must survive many drops to both sides and still be rideable to be considered reliable. On the other hand you see pure dirt bike riders brake almost everything that can be broken on a bike and they don't call the bike unreliable. It is just unfortunate and they load the bike up in the truck and drive home. You can not do that with a dual sport bike in most cases because you did not go riding in a truck. This is specifically a grey bike issue. This is why manufacturers should not just grab off the shelf street bike parts and shove them into a dirt bike frame.

    • @Blackhall_Manor
      @Blackhall_Manor 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@vegasromaniac It really depends. I am currently going through my second round with my local Honda dealer to solve the gremlin in my 2023 CRF300l Rally. Due to the way too short side stand my bike dumped itself at the end of my first ride. My driveway is sloped, gravel and was covered in snow. I put the stand down on compacted snow, got off to open the garage only to turn around after 5 steps to the bike falling over. Other than twisting the left side controls (the housing with the mirror, clutch lever, turn signal ect). I twisted them back in place and went inside. Now my bike randomly cuts off with the stand down, it's been a pain, but mechanically the bike runs. I can ride it. No physical damage can be seen. No scratches, bent parts, nothing. So Honda says it's a bad side stand switch and orders the dealer to replace. The switch isn't broken in half or showing damage so warranty covers the replacement. I lost my bike for 2 weeks while they waited for a part but hey free is good. Since then it has continued to happen randomly. Sometimes during warm up it just shuts off after 2-3 minutes. It also loses gear position on the screen. It'll show say 4th gear, then suddenly it'll show lines, then 4th, then lines. Like it doesn't know what gear it is in. Also it will show neutral, but then when you put the stand down (with the new side stand switch) it shuts off. The neutral green N light will flicker instead of being solid when this is going to happen. It is either a gear position switch issue or a shift shaft issue in my mind. They way Honda explained it to me is this. If there is obvious damage from a crash (that is what they call a drop) then warranty will not cover the cost. But if there isn't then they will. Basically a "we didn't ship it from the factory broken" stance. It is questionable if it will fall on me if the shaft is bent.
