Flick's arrival to me feels like Barca is doubling down to the vertical aspect of Xavi's Barca, w/ the appointment of Flick. All things considered, it makes sense. The squad profile is such that apart from players from La Masia are the only ones who understand the fundamentals of positional play. Often this season, w/ players that can't apply positional play means static and trivial possession. This is most characteristic of the loss of Busi this season. Compound that w/ Xavi's poor rest defence means his position was terminal. This balance b/w positional play and the more Cruyff-style vertical ftbl clashed with each other. To me, it indicates, the type of manager Xavi is, ceiling or refinement. His inability to build a foundation created often vicious cycle of gap-filling, characterized in particular by his OOP structure. This foundation is the spine, where it represents the manager's on the pitch. Flick's arrival may indicate to actual fixing of some of those key foundational issues, globally w/in the system rather than relying on players to interpret the relative game-state. The question posed to every manager is this... when a changing context is presented, will a manager dilute their principles or stand by them a the cost of glory?

As long as the Nike deal is sealed they’ll be at 1:1 and have money to spend. The 125M signing bonus with expiring contracts and getting rid of dead weight in the squad should be the 1:1, then you still have the money received for the season (supposedly around 115M)
The biggest win would be still winning the court case with libero because that’s another 100M on top of the 115M for NEXT season

It should still be Nico/Zubimendi/a fullback that’s not Cancelo imho. Nico and Zubimendi as a priority for the style of football we want and they fit within 100M. A fullback isn’t THAT big of a deal DEPENDING on preseason and how Fort/Araujo do

Flick has set expectations for himself high and I hope he delivers, after all he has far more experience than Xavi who was more or less a caretaker manager and has laid a good foundation to be built on. Flick's pressphobia could destroy him because of the famous Catalan press.

Having Pedri as pivot made absolutely no sense .. because it took away his best attributes which is his creativity and exposing him to things he is not the best suited for (tackling, covering space abd being physical)... last season Gundo should have played more as the 2nd pivot but because of the wishes of Lewandowski and Gundo for large portions of thw season... Gundo played close to Lewandowski abd Barcelona struggled...

    Few notes here…
    1. I watched almost every game this season and I don’t think Xavi’s system was rigid during the game. Many times I would find Christensen up top with lewa “not during set pieces” or Fermin drifting from right to left or de Jong going from pivot to cover for cancelo … etc
    2. Flick’s counter press was better at Bayern but we have to also remember that for the longest time since early 2000’s that’s how Bayern played. It wasn’t something that flick revolutionised but it was part of Bayern’s culture
    3. Xavi while he was trying to play posetional football his system wasn’t positional. What makes total football a very lethal and successful philosophy is that possession and position come hand in hand to create the most amount of spaces. That requires discipline from the players and Xavi didn’t necessarily do that instead he gave the players too much freedom if you ask me

if Flick goes 4-2-3-1 then there will be competition for double piviot place because hoply we will sign Kimmich then Frenkie and Gundogan will fight for their places.

  • @sammaden1053
    @sammaden1053 หลายเดือนก่อน

    On Kimmich, I differ
I do not agree that Kimmich cannot bring somethin different than our current mid-field:
    1) Ball Winner: Only Gavi and Gundo can play in multiple postion. However Gundo, is not as agressive as Kimmich when playing as CM. Kimmich is much better ball winner and very intense.
    2) Versatile: Can play RB. Much better than Roberto. This will be a great weapon to creat midfield superiority. Kimmich drops in mid field during build-up phase.
    3) Mentality: Kimmich brings in strong and wining mentality. Which FDJ after spending 5+ yrs and hogging millions still cannot bring.
    4) Pings: None of our midfielders can play accurate and continous long balls. Which is required to bypass second line of pressure and be direct.
    5) Through Balls: Apart from Pedri and Gundo may be Fermin nobody tries to play through balls. FDJ is the worst. Kimmich does it often. Atleast tries it.
Overall Kimmich is a world class player. That will strengthen our mid field.
To me, Olmo would be great addition as well. Olmo brings full package which none of our midfield can.
Olmo: Can play in any 3 attacking position, can play as interior, aggresive, goal scoring threat, through balls, intense, very safe with ball.
Not sure we have the money to buy DM and CM. So either it will be Olmo or DM. Looks like DM is high priority.

I am glad that somebody realises that Pedri is more of a controller than an attacker and plays way better when playing deep. Why is Barcelona not looking at Aleix Garcia??
