How many athletes today would be willing to take such a stance like this in front of a camera and microphone? One would think that the Republican Party should endorse his words since they seem to think that black people are more reliant on government support than self reliance The problem with many people who object to this clip is that they are too young or in denial about that time period. Kyle Pittman Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I may be a little older than you, but growing up African American in Cleveland during the 60's and 70's was no picnic to say the least. There was a great amount of tension between the races. The river (the Cuyahoga) that divided the city was also a dividing line of the races; Jews and Blacks on the East Side, and people of European origin on the West. Many areas (including the West side, Murray Hill and the like) made if very clear that if you were black, you were not welcomed. This stand made by many 1st generation Americans and almost Americans against people that help build the city. Ali was a beacon of light during a very dark time in American history. Damn…I was going crazy with excitement and agreement throughout this whole video. Muhammad told many truths and no lies for 14 minutes. I felt every word he said and came near to tears knowing we’re still going through it today only it’s gotten worse. Yeah we’re killing each other on a broader scale but if you make the right choices you can live and help your people. I held it together until the last 3 seconds of the video where sly looks at Ali cutting through the jokes and laughter “time for living”…that tear fell. Our people had it hard man sly basically told Ali man you’re right but you’re gone get us killed these people know everything you’re saying they just don’t care to change it or die trying to change it just like us. That last 3 second high comment from sly summed up these entire 14 minutes

I grew up watching the Mike Douglas Show. I believe it was on Monday - Friday from 3:30pm to 5pm. I would get home from school to watch it. I learned so much! I loved Douglas' low-key, affable and inquisitive interviewing technique. His guests were always educational, inspiring and fun!
This is a very expository and free conversation undiluted by hate, bigotry or disrespect. Each of them are speaking their truths from their own point of view which undoubtedly had each learning from one another by virtue of this calm yet passionate exchange. If it reflects anything in terms of contrast with today's social climate, it could be seriously argued that we hardly allow this kind of exercise in free thought without attack or subjugation by way of the overly sensitized and the easily offended masses who invented an entire generation of trigger warnings, safe spaces and call-out culture. People can't even think anymore let alone express themselves honestly.
This is the type of media presentation that will never be seen again. Too many truths spoken. The status quo is dependent on the deception maintained by the US System of whyte supremacy.
Isnt that incredible. That shows you the treasonous behavior of our black misleadership that allows for the perpetuation of the abysmal state of black america.
OH LOrd Sly you are brave and good And I love Ali. Good for all men there who stood for a point...did not demur...I respect this. Ali...RIP I met you twice.
Ali was really a leader in the struggle for human rights and at the forefront of it all just like any other respectable black leader in the whole world. He was hated by the majority of US citizens and endured hardship for being outspoken about his faith and the struggle. Fortunately he's now held in high esteem all over the world

This show was July 17,1974 On July 25, 1974, Texas Representative Barbara Jordan delivered a 15-minute televised speech in front of the members of the U.S. House Judiciary Committee.[18] She presented an opening speech during the hearings that were part of the impeachment process against Richard Nixon.[18] This speech is thought to be one of the best speeches of the 20th century.[19] Throughout her speech, Jordan strongly stood by the Constitution of the United States of America. She defended the checks and balances system, which was set in place to inhibit any politician from abusing their power.[18] Jordan never flat out said that she wanted Nixon impeached, but rather subtly and cleverly implied her thoughts.[20] She simply stated facts that proved Nixon to be untrustworthy and heavily involved in illegal situations.,[20] and quoted statements from by the drafters of the Constitution in order to argue that that actions like Nixon's during the scandal corresponded with their understanding of impeachable offenses[21]"Statement on the Articles of Imepeachment". She protested that the Watergate scandal will forever ruin the trust American citizens have for their government.[20] One of the reasons Nixon resigned over the Watergate scandal was because of this speech.[18][dubious ] This powerful and influential statement earned Jordan national praise for her rhetoric, morals, and wisdom.

Made me chuckle!Thanks
I love my people❣️ Ali, Ali, Ali❤️❤️❤️
Sly Stone❤️❤️❤️ Mike Douglas had a good show.
Sly was high as a kite and lit like a bright light!
Ali to Sly: Your failure to understand is due to your insistence on communicating...
😂 higher than eagles feet!
Possibly but he was still more intelligent than Ali.

Sly is all love. Very inspiring.
Glad to hear what he said without censorship. Ali mellowed in time. He is loved. I love Sly . . . hugz to Sly!
I never knew Sly was such a human being. How refreshing. Wish I could meet him today.

At the risk of saying something obvious: wisdom is not something you learn at school or university, its something you learn from life and Muhammed Ali is living proof of that. Thanks for uploading.
God give you Wisdom !!!!!!
I see this, a healthy consistency is a virtue and so too is changing ones mind as more is revealed.
Where is Sly now?
You forgot he was brainwashed by Elijah Muhammad and his teachings, who Malcolm X knew was a hypocrit but Ali defended him.
What Ali said in this interviewed revealed just how ignorant and stupid he really was.
things haven't changed all that much...ali nailed it.

"I only care for the freedom and the unity of my people, everybody else has got it" Most Powerful Statement Of the Entire Interview Win for Muhammad Ali
Ali a true legend, always straight on point
Mr. Muhammad Ali ,to this day I still cry for the loss of this beautiful human being. There will never be another as great as he was.
Ali was point on, he said we in a world full of hypocrites. I love love love the way Ali spoke and wasn't afraid to speak his mind 👏, brother and Sly you were ok too...
Sly just wants harmony , thats what I love about him and what we actually need..just harmony , what i can do you can too.
Sly was a sellout Ali spoke facts
Sweet to see the black man rise. Thank you Mr Ali!
Sly and Ali both had points.... but props to Sly.... "Take your hand out my face......."

Back then Sly didn't give a Fuck who got hands, it's about RESPECT your brother. No real fighting was going to happen.
I like Ali but he was trying to bully Sly
@@johndoughnut9350 no Ali wasn't trying at all to bully Sly. You don't know Ali's character very well then.

“Where you live, brother?”
It’s 2019 & the political perspective of Ali is still true.
More so than ever with weaker black representation. The only uncompromising voices are in the grassroots New Black Media on the internet
Ali is too smart to be fooled he managed to know the truth religiously and politically. Only few manage to reach the bottom of the ocean of truth.
PREACH!!!!!!
always trust a man seeking the truth, NEVER trust one that claims to have found it!
Our brothers are catching hell and catching hell and catching hell.
I love Ali and his ideas✊🏽❤️
This is the reason that they call him THE GREATEST.
Sly wrote 'Everyday People', I believe. He knew EXACTLY what was going on.
A riot...
Ali was really a leader in the struggle for human rights and at the forefront of it all just like any other respectable black leader in the whole world. He was hated by the majority of US citizens and endured hardship for being outspoken about his faith and the struggle. Fortunately he's now held in high esteem all over the world
This got deep. Ali just went in.

When Ali points out systemic racism no one wants to hear it, but he was right.
Still exists today. And with all the so-called "freedoms of speech" that we have today , we have even less courageous spokespeople for black society. The new black media is making much needed changes to that .

Sadly--Sly was on the downward spiral at the time of this interview--(1974, I believe.) He's higher than a kite--and Ali knows it and is pissed--but he maintains composure.
And he’s still alive surprisingly
Love you ali forever my brother ❤❤❤
Wow this was so powerful!!! All this information still rings true today!!!
Sly wasn't afraid of Ali. To see two strong brothers negotiate and debate with each other is beautiful like an opera. Ali said "I won't fuss with the brother on TV, that's the "nigga and fool show my brotha"...Sly says ain't no thang but a chicken wang, and "get yo hand out ma face!" with his stoned ass, looking Ali in the eye. Sly wanted to change the color of the flag..."over your head!" Very interesting interview and panel. I used to watch Mike Douglas with my beloved Grandmother.
Now they want peace after they conquered the world...I love Ali

This show was July 17,1974
On July 25, 1974, Texas Representative Barbara Jordan delivered a 15-minute televised speech in front of the members of the U.S.
Thank you 😊

Sly and Muhammad are just brilliant here. Two intelligent men.
