    You know I love my R5, but this paint job is stunning. I will never get rid of mine even if it retires to a wall bracket one day. Bikepacked on it, raced on it, sunday cafe ride on it and cycled all across Europe. I love mine and sold all my other road/tt bikes as this is perfect for me

    Another superb bike from the Cervelo & CH stable! 👌. You mention the in line ( 0mm?) Seat post. In terms of this bike & fit Chris did you have to change anything radically regarding the stack height / stem length / handlebar width & drop spec?

    • @ChrisHallRides
      @ChrisHallRides  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      So before I had a 15mm setback seatpost and we changed it to just bring my legs a bit more inline. Didn’t have to change anything else on the front end in terms of stem length and the amount of spacers below. Just a tweak to the fit. I’ve learnt I should always be using an inline seatpost for bikes now based on my most recent fits

    • @grahambell9831
      @grahambell9831 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @ChrisHallRides That's very interesting Chris! Same for myself, The difference between the 20mm off set post that came with the bikes ( s-works SL7 & Atheos) made for an awkward, uncomfortable bike position. Two in-line posts later made for a much improved comfortable bike position. No need for shorter stems & handlebar changes 👍

    Hi Chris. Great vid! Would be interested in your thoughts on how the geo/comfort of the R5 compares to the Caledonia

    • @ChrisHallRides
      @ChrisHallRides  ปีที่แล้ว

      I would say the R5 is definitely more agressive and more racy than the Caledonia. It feels a bit more responsive whilst the Caledonia feels very calm. Both great bikes but they noticeably do ride differently. Hopefully that kind of helps?

    As previously mentioned I have one of Sam Oomens Sunweb R5's (rim brake). If any of your Cervelo contacts are watching it would be interesting to know if it was his Giro bike (it has a 1 sticker & was brought via Cycle Exchange). Power transfer is impressive, have set it up for crits/road bike TT's with the new Tririg front brake, and those slightly narrower round tacx bottles, 36cm Prime aero bars with a 130 stem. Its great on the local motor racing circuit which has a kicker every lap so needs that shortish burst where its sharp responsiveness kicks in.

    • @ChrisHallRides
      @ChrisHallRides  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That sounds like a fantastic bike! If it has a '1' sticker it usually means that's bike number 1 so his preferred bike for racing so most likely used at the Giro! They normally have 1, 2 or 3 stickers on them

    Some would argue that the R5 is less aero than S5 but More Comfortable. Some days comfortable is aero

    Hey Chris. Love your channel. I’m looking to purchase an R5 and test drove one today. The seat post had an offset that made the reach too long for me on a size 54 bike. I noticed the one you have in the video has zero offset. Are those hard to fine? It seems like all the videos I’ve seen of the R5 have the seat post with an offset. Do you know how much far forward your saddle (in cm) can come with a zero offset? That’s the big question for me.

    • @ChrisHallRides
      @ChrisHallRides  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the kind words! Your local Cervélo dealer should be able to source you one pretty easily. The standard one is a 15mm offset I think so it could pull you forward 15mm potentially. Best to talk to a bike fitter though!

    Your comment on rim brakes is somewhat innacurate.
    Sure, rims do wear out over time, however it isn’t as significant or as common as people make it seem. I have had several wheelsets, both carbon and aluminum for over 10 years and 70,000 miles that still have tons of life on the brake track.
    Rotor and disc brake pads are more expensive than a pair of rim brake pads, so overall you’re spending more money on a disc brake systems seeing as you have to change them rotors more often and they are more expensive. Rim brake wheels are dirt cheap.

    Aethos S-Works frame and fork is under 800g. R5 frame and work is close to 1100g? S5 one might be able to justify that weight. Hard sell for R5? Tour teams should just use a heavier groupset for UCI limit. Compared to Aethos, new Orbea and new Factor, this is just too heavy. Guess why Specialized went 1 bike as light weight bike makes no sense anymore given UCI limit
