- In this video we demonstrate Feeding Therapy at Home. This is what a typical oral feeding session looks like for Dior. Dior has both Cerebral Palsy and Autism which makes feeding by mouth challenging. Unlike some autistic toddlers Dior is not a picky eater.
Our focus with Dior is to assist her in developing the proper oral motor skills. She has made so much progress over the last year. Thanks to the help of St. Vincent Feeding Clinic.
Cerebral palsy can affect the muscles that open and close the mouth and move the lips and the tongue which can cause difficulties in chewing and swallowing food and drink - a condition known as dysphagia.

She is so precious. YOU GUYS ARE AMAZING PARENTS!!! I know it cannot be easy & I applaud you & pray you get breaks from time to time. You’re journey has been intense. But as Christians we do know all of these things have purpose & only time will tell the many purposes your experiences have. I have a granddaughter who is 3 & is non-verbal autistic. Our journey hasn’t been nearly as hard as yours. My granddaughter was born full term. She also responded to ‘sing song’ speech like Dior at first. She mostly repeats what someone says when she speaks now. She FINALLY learned how to say ‘yes’ & ‘no’ which was just INCREDIBLE!! It’s so nice to ask her if she wants something & she can answer.
I have subscribed as I am learning of others experiences with autism.
Again, Dior is just absolutely precious. I could just give her a big hug!!!! 💕
I too was born early six weeks two pounds. I'm dyslexic and suffer from pediatric Fibromyaliga, Costochondritis, Asthma and Copd. I'm 46 and work special education and I'm a in home respite provider for children and adults with disabilities.

How do you blend the chicken, vegetables and rice? What liquid do you use to make it a purée?
Thank you for your question! We have a blend tec blender. We add all ingredients to the blender and use stock to thin it out. We use stock instead of water so it's still flavorful.. If it's a sweet food we use applesauce.
What kind of mesh is that that you are using and where did you get it?
It a called tulle mesh. You can get it at Walmart, are any craft store.

Thanks for sharing this video. My 15 months has a similar challenge. I’m wondering how did you balance between g-tube formula puree volume vs oral food volume? My challenge is that my kid doesn’t eat by mouth a lot(he wouldn’t feel hungry), mainly driven by the gtube feeding calories and volume. If you can share more, I’ll be really appreciate it.
Dior doesn't signal she is hungary as well. We had to work out a feeding schedule with her nutritionist. We try to feed her mostly by mouth.

Where did u get the cup with the straw??
The cup we got from the clinic, but Amazon sells a similar Honey Bear cup. The straw is PVC Clear Vinyl Tubing that we obtain from Lowes and cut to size.
Hello I love your video it’s very informative❤ I have some concerns with my daughter who’s is 22 and she has cerebral palsy/none verbal,just recently she’s declined her fluid intake she will not drink out of cup at all so we made her a dr appointment she go tomorrow but she will eat 💯 but will no longer drink I’m very concerned because dehydration is not what I want to happen and when
we thicken her liquids to feed them to her since she want drinks I feel she not getting enough fluid intake have. We are just at a loss because went don’t have a clue as to why she’s not drinking anymore.😢
