8:12 Charlie Hough's first and only All-Star Game. Finally made it in his 17th big league season at age 38! That's why baseball is the best sport in the world!
I was there. I was 17 years old standing in right field with my $10 standing room only ticket. You can see me and a friend a few times during the broadcast.
When Dale Murphy is your #7 hitter, you know that you have a good lineup. The Mets 3-4-5 hitters on their 1986 team were the same 3-4-5 hitters as the NL All Star starters 🤯
1:32:01: I wonder when Fernando Valenzuela became confident enough to hold an on-camera conversation by himself with the media in English. Remember that when Fernando was first starting out in the big leagues in 1981, he did not speak a word of English. Jaime Jarrin, the Spanish play-by-play announcer for the Los Angeles Dodgers, was assigned to be Fernando's interrupter when he spoke to the media.
Fred Lynn was actually the first player on the losing team to be named the LCS MVP, which happened in the 1982 ALCS as a member of the California Angels.
I was a proud met fan here. 3rd thru 5th starting lineup and starting pitcher. The astrodome would later be a torture chamber in the NLCS with Mike Scott, but Mets finally got it done. Astros were tough AF in that series. If it went to gm 7, Houston was winning it

Like the first and only time there have ever been four Mets starters on the AS team. HAD to be 1986. Should have been the same in 1999 when we had the best infield in baseball.
at the time Al manager and KC Royals manager was dying of a brain tumor. Announcers said he was messing up signals during the game and he said he felt sick. The next say he was checked out and revealed he had a brain tumor and he never managed again and died months later
todays game no way..want you to go out there and buy the shit ASG jerseys and hats while baseball tradition again thrown out the window all to make a buck….i refuse to watch the Homerun derby I mean All Star game big joke All Stars today are just amateur bush leaguers in disguise ..now they have matching uni”s now to go along with it..terrific can’t wait to miss it
simply because todays game sucks..they could give a shit about the All Star Game, reason why players now wear “Team Uni’s” now for the A-Baller Game, thinking people are gonna run out and by hats, jerseys etc..bunch of assholes whom never played the game in their lives run this shit show called the MLB
CLEMENS will forever be a Baseball "Punk" for beanballing PIAZZA after he lit Clemens up and had him booed off the mound two weeks before. And the steroid scandal and Clemens an obvious CHEAT he'll have to wait until he's DEAD to get into the HOF. PIAZZA IS THERE DURING HIS LIFETIME. Fun fact, in 1997 when CLEMENS was pitching for the JAYS ge got LIT UP by the METS at Shea Stadium who scored seven runs that night. That was Rogs CY YOUNG year. And we all remember the 86 Series how Clemens punked out on his team. American Leaguer
It's been addressed several times already, but keep in mind that Dick Howser, the AL manager was not in the best of health going into the 1986 All-Star Game. He as it turned out, was already suffering from the effects of a malignant brain tumor and he was pass away less than a year later. The 1986 All-Star Game would prove to be the final baseball game that Dick Howser would manage in.
Introductions on these old all star games is my favorite part and the old school cap tipping. Many of my baseball cards flashing across
Back when the AL and NL were separate⚾I only knew the AL guys from their cards. Seeing all the big names from AL was a rare treat.
Wow! A preview of that years World Series in the same year, with Doc and Rocket!
I was here, at 7 years of age with Mom, Dad, Bro and Sis!
Me too
Not as crisp a picture as the broadcast on the MLB channel, but this one has the starting lineup introductions, so this is the must-watch! Thank you!
I’m watching it now on MLB PlutoTV. There are no graphics, not even a scoreboard

Look at how young Al Michaels is, here.
Holy cow!...

The one thing I remember is that Lou Whitaker should have been the MVP (hit a 2-run homer off Gooden) to lead the A.L. to a 3 - 2 win!
2:17:07 - Howser initially signals for the wrong man out of the bullpen and has to correct himself. An ominous sign for him.
I’ve also read he was feeling nauseous during this game and the mistakes in signals as mentioned were a sign he was not well at all.
Mike Scott was the best pitcher in 86. The first player to win the LCS MVP in a losing effort
Mind you, I I can't stand this guy. But I think the best pitcher in 1986 was Roger Clemens. He was 24-4 with a 2.48 ERA.
I didn’t realize Clemens was a controversial person, until I read about him recently. I never had anything against him
Fred Lynn was actually the first player on the losing team to be named the LCS MVP, which happened in the 1982 ALCS as a member of the California Angels.
Great lineups!!! Wow!!!
Tony Perez hit a home run in the 15th inning of the 1967 all star game to win it 2-1 for the National League.

This pops up on my feed on the very day that Whitey Herzog has died. Both managers are gone now. Rest well, Whitey and Dick Howser.

carter's white cleats are classic. i don't think anyone wears white anymore

8:45. Just days after this game, Dick Howser was diagnosed with brain cancer and passed away less than a year later.
😢😢😢
Yes Another American League victory hope they can start and keep a streak going 😊
It’s so important that they wear their real true uniforms not the crap they put the players in today

Why can’t MLB have the players use there teams uniforms for the all star game now?

Howser never put Canseco in. His first all star game and didn't even get to play.
51 stolen bases at the all star break? That's insane!!

It’s a crime that Dale Murphys not in the hall of fame how can a 2 time back to back League MVP not be in the hall that’s ridiculous!!!!!
2:09:21 rip
3:47 RIP this was the last game he ever managed
@@qman66- Are you talking about Dick Howser?...
Steve howe?
1:52:37 Dan Quisenberry
Mattingly not starting in this game is laughable
AL manager must be asleep keeping Charlie Hough in the game with Dave Righetti in the bullpen. What was he thinking!?
Hough could pitch forever and forever. And Howser was diagnosed with a brain tumor a few days later, so maybe he wasn't in the right frame of mind.
