For those of you who were wondering about Mulan and Pocahontas being in the same carriage (I know most of you are)- one of the carriages broke down before the ceremony and they didn't have time to find another one. Pocahontas and Mulan had to ride together because they have the smallest dresses- if you put, say, Cinderella and Belle in a carriage together, their huge dresses won't have room in that tiny carriage. The dresses could have risked damage if they were compacted in such a small space together. Disney dresses take up more space than you think. Belle's new dress especially is the biggest one Disney has (save Tiana's, maybe). That's why she meets in her blue dress at CRT and her gold gown at Akershus in Walt Disney World- if she has to walk around the restaurant, she wears her blue dress. If she can stay solitary for pictures, she wears her gold gown. Some of the dresses are simply too big to be in tiny spaces, especially with one another.
    All that aside.
That was probably one of the most gagworthy messes I've ever seen. The carriage bust before the ceremony was a prelude to that. I don't know what made Disney go with that Rapunzel, but she was struggling to hide her British accent in the end and her smile/acting was too sickeningly fake. The princesses looked awkward when they were just standing around and "acting" while Shannon was singing. I really hope there's a full footage to this show that proves me wrong, and that this video was just edited poorly to make it look like a disaster.
I do think that their idea, in general, was lovely. The carriages were lovely and I like how they picked each carriage to represent the personality and aesthetic of each princess. I think it would have been more successful if it was a Disney World affair like, say, Merida's coronation, but Kensington Palace did provide a nice backdrop for what it was. Carriages and palace aside, this was disappointing to watch. I really love Disney- but this was just awful.

Why the hell are so many people complaining about the princesses being "ugly"?? You came here to watch another princess being added to some other ones, not to be a fucking judge for a modeling show. And this is for kids by the way. It shouldn't matter if the princesses are not model worthy because guess what? Not every child is going to be or is model worthy. We should stop teaching our kids that everything is about looks. It's already in the media enough. :(

The reason why Punzie has her long hair is because it's kind of her icon. Same with Ariel, even if she's now a human, they use her as mermaid in for example many Ariel toys and all that. And Belle and Tiana have their "party" dresses, even though they wear the "casual" clothes most of time in the movie. Mulan has a dress and long hair too, even though most of movie she's... Not wearing a dress and having short hair xD. Beast/Adam is mostly pictured as a the beast, even though he's a human now. It's iconic.
I hope you understand what I mean, English is not my native language.

    • @kristinahuchison2511

I think because most people love her with her long blonde hair instead. And it just makes her more recognizable too. Its the same with Pocahontas choosing John Rolfe in the sequel, those who stupidly like them better complain about why Rolfe isn’t paired with her in the lineup, and its simply like 99% of Pocahontas fans love her with John Smith and completely hate Rolfe, not to mention its also about selling toys and stuff, Rolfe isn’t even that recognizable even as a Disney character, but also it’d create a protest about Pocahontas being paired with John Rolfe considering how much hate the sequel got. And technically in the series Rapunzel’s hair actually does regrow, just for unfortunately the ending to be where its short and brown again. I don’t really like her short hair, it just makes her look too different for me, and the worst part is it can’t grow either as shown with the piece when Gothel tried taking a streak instead

When I saw Tangled, I immediately liked Rapunzel. She's quickly become one of my favorites of the Disney Princesses, competing with Ariel (because I think Jodi Benson is a beautiful person), Merida (because of my Scottish ancestry and I love a good Scottish accent), Elsa and Anna (because why not) in a five way tie amongst the Disney Princesses. (Although does Elsa not count because she's a Queen for the majority of Frozen?)

    • @Silent0Sacrifice
      @Silent0Sacrifice 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Nah. Elsa counts. Elsa is the first Queen to be inducted into the official Disney Line, however, She is NOT the first Disney princess to become a Queen. Kida from Atlantis has that right, if I recall correctly. But no one likes Kida....(evidently. I do.)

Keru Sakurako Mulan isnt. she didnt marry, nor was she born into royalty. however, Pochahontas does hold a similar title to royalty in that she is the Chief's eldest daughter. tho obviously not a traditional European definition of "princess" the title could be interchangeable between the 2 regions.

All the other princesses dresses were too big and poofy to fit in the same carriage so they had to pick the two with the smaller costumes.

Uhhh jasmine and aurora don't even have puffy dresses. I think the reason why Pocahontas and Mulan are sitting together is because they are not as popular as the others.

    • @KaitlynDelia
      @KaitlynDelia 9 ปีที่แล้ว +6

+Peter Griffin Yes, it's true that Jasmine and Aurora don't have puffy dresses. But Jasmine and Aurora had several movies in between them. This processional goes in ascending order from the first princess movie release (Snow White) to the last princess movie release (Princess and the Frog) in order to ceremonially usher in the next princess. Pocahontas and Mulan's movies are right next to each other. Disney did what they could in the emergency situation they were put in and their solution makes a lot of sense.

Kochiyo Kaarochi Well Mulan wasn't a princess but Pocahontas was. Not in the traditional way as we know it but she's technically one as she's the eldest daughter of the Chief or 'king'. Also they were together because one of the carriages broke before the show.

She really thought they were real. When i said they were just ladies dressed up she cried and wouldn't believe me, lol.

i am actually native american but that was the past... now to this day. tribes are doing pageant like things for representatives for their tribe. Miss Cheyenne river or Miss Rosebud (Queen) Junior Miss (princess) little miss and mini miss that probably why the wacicus think of it don't you think so?

how is it irrelevant mentioning the heritage when we are speaking about Pocahontas who is native im just saying im sorry i didnt clearify correctly on what i am trying to say if people speak from their childhood imagination then being real in reality when it disneys fantasy to give people childhood memories and their imagination to work with if you look at from perspective view of a childs mind but if you want to be real about Pocahontas then let ruin dreams for kids and young adults who still believe in wonderful disney fantasy that she her english name is Rebecca Rolfe and in March 1617 she died when she became extremely ill either from small pox pneumonia, or tuberculosis or been poisoned that she was a Virginia Indian, Pocahontas was the daughter of Powhatan of a network of tributary tribal nations in the Tsenacommacah, encompassing the Tidewater region of Virginia. During her captivity, she converted to Christianity and took the name Rebecca married a man named John Rofles.
i bid you a good day to you.

I was confused about it, too, so I looked it up. Apparently, the title "Disney Princess" can be given to whomever Disney deems fit. There are a few reasons why they added her that I found: 1) she increases ethnic diversity in the group 2) She's a good role model and a hero 3) She is popular enough to be included. "Disney Princess" is a franchise that was created to help boost dropping sales (so favorite princesses=$). If I don't make sense, I recommend google. :) Either way, Mulan is awesome

I think it had to do with the fact that they aren't actual princesses. Even if Disney has made them an official princess, they were not in or by the end of their movie.
      Snow White- Born a princess
      Cinderella- Married a prince
Aurora- Born a princess & married a prince
Ariel- Born a princess & married a prince
      Belle- Married a prince
      Jasmine- Born a princess
      Tiana- Married a prince
      Rapunzel- Born a princess
Mulan married Shang who the son of the Captain/General of the Chinese Army. Shang then went on to take over his father's role. Mulan was just a normal girl. Neither were born royal, or married into a royal family. Mulan ALMOST married a prince in Mulan II but didn't.
Pocahontas was the head chief's daughter and went on to fall in love with John Smith, an English explorer. I have not seen the movie, so I do not know if they married however, he was not a prince, nor was she born into a royal family.
As someone pointed out two months ago, this could be because their movie came out during the same year but I choose to believe it was a subtle nod to the fact that although Disney counts them as being a princess, they aren't.
I think Disney made them 'official' only because the people already considered them to be a princess. I think most people considered them Princesses already because most, if not all Disney movies where the lead character is a female has been a princess from birth or married a prince by the end of the movie. So to cause less confusion, they were given the title of being a Disney Princess.
I'm sure this was also a decision made to increase merchandise sales for those characters. 'Normal' characters aren't seen as important, and thus their merch sales (unless they're a truly iconic character like Mickey/Donald Duck etc) are not as high as Princess merch. I think it was just another way for Disney to cash in.
Of course, there could be a third less likely reason. It could be to show young girls that you don't have to marry a prince or be born as a princess to actually be a princess. But, let's face it, the first two reasons were much more likely for a major corporation shark like Disney to do.

This is ultimately a pattern. So everyone gets a slow roll-by and the girls of color either get cramped up or a speedy drive by. For example when we think if where all the "original" princesses came from they were from places like never never land and other mystical parts unknown. But the "Frog" princess from New Orleans after hurricane Katrina who loses her father and has a single parent. This is no fairy tale. It rings of everyday reality.

honestly these ceremonies are the only time you ever even see Pocahontas anymore (with the exclusion of fatasmic, but there's a reason you see her there and no where else), and if they don't have an actor to fit her profile for these ceremonies (she's the hardest profile to match of all the disney princesses, so the most they have one person hired for her in a year) she's not even in them.
