@@MrsNefertari Hi there. I was 20. Crazy trip from Roermond to Essen. Hitchhiked and stayed with friends overnight somewhere in the Ruhrpott. We smoked pot and drank. Hell. Then this crazy Rockpalast concert. Graham Parker & The Rumors, Police and Jack Bruce. Six hours full music! The return trip was hell too. Great memories!

Yup! I watched this live on tv (from Sweden) and vividly remember the raw, vibrant show. The way the German emcee calls out the name of the band at 0:17 has remained with me as a soundbite memory for more than forty years (though I recalled it as "Und grüssen wir dann herzlich den--- POOLIIIIICE!!" 😃 (my knowledge of German was kinda sketchy at the time)
MY big brother was in Germany 80 & 81 Stuttgart ( lol) wish he was still here ...he liked these boys, stones, john Hammond & the boss bruce, the 80's were quiet a time
my elder brother was recording this fantastic concert in 1980 ( in parallel, it was broadcasted on radio), using a Sony FeCr-tape...I still have this tape today, but because of age and it was played so often the quality is...hm...modest at best :-) Thank you so much for uploading this!!
My dad recorded this on vcr, but also on a 2 track recorder. He was a musician so he had a couple of these things. It was broadcasted both on tv and radio.
I recorded it lice from Broadcast an MC - and took this Tape everywhare - to friends, vacation, in the car aso... for decades. I lost it in the late 90th, when i moved to another city and had to crunch my stuff. I changed to CD, but was still missing this Record for a long time. Some Month ago i found it in a newsgroup as mp3, 320 kb and was so happy to got it back again-. now i carry it everywhere again - on my mobile :-)
He referenced many old songs. "Daylight come" is from a song about bananas, you may remember Beetlejuice having that song in a scene. Sting also sang the melody from the song Tequila by The Champs, another one was a line from Sgt. Pepper's album, (fixing a hole), at Hatfield Polytechnic.
Hartmut Wolters I can honestly that I did just that very thing...with the audio cassette I made of this show for my two month holiday in England and France circa summer 1995. A great one for walking the streets of London...
Crazy how EVERY live performance i see of Roxanne, he always sings "Told you once i won't tell you again" twice in the second verse instead of "I have to tell you just how i feel" weird
It's amazing to watch this back to back with the Markthalle one earlier the same year - th-cam.com/video/F4VjsqR5Vbc/w-d-xo.html. Completely different energy levels (by the time this one rolled around they were pretty overtoured and even Stewart was probably close to absolute exhaustion), yet both utterly remarkable.
So big! Before Status Quo, barclay,..,we were stupid, and then they… cool and stupid, heard before elvis beatles, bay cities…, being home right next door.. monday buying regatta de blanc
Sting was a fantastic song writer, but his Songs sounded without The Police totally boring ... without Copelands weird ingenuity and Summers genuine guitar playing Sting only made bland Pop music ... yuppie shit ...
@@tufty7026 You didn't like "The Soul Cages"? I'm surprised. As much as I enjoy the first two solo LPs by Sting, I find the third more powerful, personal, consistent and darker from beginning to end.
Although a bit quiet, one of the best concerts ever. The Police PURE, no tricks, no gimmicks. The Police how good they really were.....
Was barely 16 when we went to this concert.
I can still remember how the floor was vibrating from sting's bass.
I was 16 as well - one of my first concerts. I was completely taken off my feet.

So strange living in a world without them now
I was there, 15 years young!!
I remember watching this concert live on West German TV from behind the Iron Curtain.
Stewart copeland Great the best
Just brilliant! I saw them in 1983.. they were the biggest band in the world but they had lost the excitement by then!
One of the best Rockpalast recordings. The Police live, amazing!! Thank you for this TV post.

Stuart ..... man he's so lit up, love his energy so is Sting , Andy has to concentrate
Legendary!!! Because of the Conzert I got to know and love The Police.
Love that Sting is playing that badass upright.

The Police
many times without limitations!

Love seeing a band young and hungry. Fantastic
Thanks 🇧🇷

Eyo Eyo Yo Yo Yo! Sting came up with some great sing a longs! One of their best shows!

I love this Video so much

A great one for walking the streets of London...
Best concert ever for me
i made a casset tape of that vhs tape in 1981 still my favorite drums and the version of roxanne
this concert its f*cking AMAZING
"Nils Lofgren" (1979) mal gesehen?

Stu Copland always speeding songs up lol.
It's damn exciting though.

This is Police but watching them in 2008 they are to polished and Sting looks like a mannique, stiff. Loved Police

Liked his first two “solo” albums and Summoners Tales, but otherwise agree

Audio is poor. Try The Police Tokyo 2008. 100 times better.
its the feeling you have with this, it brings me back to that day, i was at home and looking at this. i remember every note.
The audio is not poor, just a little low. Try turning it up!
You're a young guy, right? That gig captured a moment in time. There is no "100 times better"...
This Tape is nearly 40 years old!
The audio may be better, but they're 100 times older. I prefer the youthful energy of this performance.
The are best at drums and guitar, but singing isn't their job for sure.😁
Every time I see the Police live I can't help thinking they would be 30% better if Copeland played 25% less. Amazing band though, no doubt.
You clearly are Sting under a fake username.
