I've found Dory having 2 Grammys doesn’t necessarily mean having complete recognition. Her (H.E.R.’s) 😉 mashup reminded me of the stages a relationship one goes through as they are identifying if this person is “the one” When she started with “Just Want to Be Free” this reminded me of the beginning stage where one is carefree, exploring, having fun, butterflies but no feelings. Then as she goes onto “Best Part” this is the time one starts having feelings and starts becoming reserved in what one says and does, as one see’s the possibility of being in the others person’s life longterm but not sure if the other feels the same, and, not wanting to say or do something to mess up the relationship. Then finally when she goes into “Nothing Even Matters”, this reminds me of the stage when both have fallen in love, committed to the relationship and ones identity becomes intertwined with the the other person. In this stage one is comfortable being one’s total self without a care of loosing the other person -“The “Even Flatulence” stage, because in this stage both have committed to one another and feel safe to be their total self without worrying they will do or say something to push the other away.

It's reinforced with awards, magazine covers, inconceivable record deals and on and on. It's not the artist fault...its what we emphasize and value as a society. If we demanded more from record labels and the music industry perhaps we would get a better musical experience. Real R & B and true soul music is slipping and fading away. I concur. Real artistry, lyrical content, musicianship should be rewarded. Instead being half naked, singing empty lyrics and shaking one's money maker is not only rewarded, and applauded. It's reinforced with awards, magazine covers, inconceivable record deals and on and on. It's not the artist fault...its what we emphasize and value as a society. If we demanded more from record labels and the music industry perhaps we would get a better musical experience. Real R & B and true soul music is slipping and fading away.
