    Melt the frosting and chocolate separately then pour the chocolates into the frosting before pouring everything onto the cake. That's what worked for me and I was using the cheap chocolate.

    I used to sell cupcakes with the rainbow-ish frosting. I “painted” the sides of the piping bag with the different colors and then filled it with just plain white icing. When it comes out, it takes on all the colors since the outermost layer of the icing is all colored. And it does come out like a rainbow.

      Or use smaller bags for the colors and then combine the bags into the bigger piping bag and then there won’t be any blending of the colors.

      You cant really "Stick" melted chocolate in frosting tho? You would have to mix it but it may ruin the marble look

    • @Ma5jay5dontxdoxthat
      @Ma5jay5dontxdoxthat 4 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      @@raindrop98 it wont thought. Pouring it in without mixing ( putting it in in a few place and not just the middle) will make a marble effect especially if you pour it maybe 6- 8 inches from the cake slowly. Soap making uses the same technique with the same results.

  • @skttrbrain
    @skttrbrain 4 ปีที่แล้ว +332

    With the marble effect cake I recommend melting the different chocolates in different containers then pouring the dark into the middle of the white chocolate and *then* pouring it. It will help because the different chocolates have different cooking times and so cooking them differently will stop the lumps and overcooking.

    Birthday traditions: mine is close to Valentine’s Day, and I often have Valentine’s themed parties. But more importantly, my mother would make me a heart shaped cake every year. Unfortunately she passed away when I was 9; however, my older sister continued our mother’s tradition of making me a heart shaped birthday cake every year. 💜 It wasn’t until I was about 18 that I realized it (we’re not always observant as teens, lol) and it made me love and appreciate my sister more than ever before. It’s little things like that that make all the difference in the world in keeping us close to our loved ones who have died, and close to those still living. 💜

    When you swirl frosting in a piping bag you should cut the plastic wrap tube thing at the bottom and then it’ll go into the piping tip easier with less muddying of the colors. Also, a bigger tip always helps with the colors! Thick fluffy frosting also really helps :)

    I use the purple food colouring trick all the time. Less food colouring means less colouring flavour (which isn't really tasty). it works best with large amounts of icing, and homemade. you can also use the same colour theory for making green leaves less bright and more natural (use a tiny bit of red), or to make pinks look softer for flowers (use green). For the swirly icing, you do need a bigger tip for the colours to look separate enough. You can roll the colours separately as well. The first bit is always weird, so you have to squeeze enough out to get the colours you want. I don't use this hack, because of the waste. I just stripe the colours in the bag. Some of these have good thought behind them, but it would actually be easier to do it the right way (melt the chocolate first when do do the first one, temper the chocolate for the honeycomb one, just make real icing for the last one). Also, make sure your frosting is cold. put it in the fridge before using it and you'll have much more control, and it will look a lot less messy.

    I just discovered your channel and I've been watching your videos for about two hours waiting for my husband to get home. 😂 Honestly, you could do anything and your personality alone would interest me.
    Also, as a cake decorator, you would do SO WELL decorating with a coupler. It's pretty much a plastic part with threads that you put into the icing bag before you put icing into it, and the part that threads on (it threads onto the outside of the bag so that your icing won't spill and gives it a really secure hold) you can insert just about any commercially available decorating tip into and interchange super flawlessly as needed. You already have a wonderful natural talent with icing than you give yourself credit for. Happy birthday! 🎂

    Birthday tradition: For as long as I can remember, I have gotten KFC for my birthday. When I was a kid and teen, my brothers, sister and I got KFC. We would share a bucket between us all. I'm 40, and my sister is 38; I have a photo of her on her 2nd birthday and on a tablecloth in front of her on the floor, is a bucket of chicken. I had to keep the tradition going.

    just a tip: when piping, i recommend that when you hold the piping bag, you have your non-dominant hand in front, and your dominant hand at the back. when you pipe, squeeze at the back, not the front, and guide with your front hand. i learned this in consumers class - really a big help 😇

    In the piping bag, you line each icing starting thin at the tip and out to the end of the piping bag. Then you squeeze down till it comes out the tip. Also sticking it in the frige before you squeeze it might help.

    For the multicolored frosting, try twisting the ends of the plastic wrap tightly, feed the end through the piping tip like you're threading a needle so that you can pull it down once it's in, and then clip the end of the plastic wrap (and unwind if necessary). Also I recommend a coupler for your piping tips. That way the tip is outside the bag and can be changed if you need it bigger or smaller or round vs star tip. Also the giant tips with the giant couplers are great for multicolored frosting too. Awesome hacks, great video! And you're super cute with how excited you are about your birthday.

  • @lh5670
    @lh5670 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    For the icing: twist both ends of the plastic wrap after adding the icing; cut the tip off one end of the plastic sausage; stick it in the piping bag. You may have to squeeze a bit of icing out of the bag before you get what you’re looking for, but it will work eventually (and will always fit in the bag). Another hack? Chip bag clips from ikea for the end of your piping bag (or a simple twist tie) to prevent the icing from coming out the top (also, don’t fill your piping bag so much). I use purple to whiten my buttercream all the time. Not perfect white but definitely passable for all but a wedding cake. Love your videos!

    Interesting video. As for a cake decorating hack, I remember when I was about 12 wanting to enter a chocolate cake in my local fall fair baking contest, but discovered that I didn't have the ingredients needed to frost it. What I did was to grab my mom's doily off of the dining table, place it on top of the cake like a stencil, then heavily sprinkle it with icing sugar. When I lifted the doily off, there was a *beautiful* pattern left behind. (I actually won a ribbon for it.)

    A fellow August Leo baby here! I knew there was a reason I felt such a strong connection to you! (I mean that intro, probably the most Leo thing I have ever seen). A birthday tradition at my house is that we reuse the same candle from my 15th birthday not just for my birthday, but for everybody. Also because my birthday usually was a week or two before school, every year I would get about $100 to spend on school supplies, so I never had those basic highlighters or pencils, your girl went all out! 😂 Now since I have finished school, I just buy myself new pens or stationary from Japan b/c I refuse to let that tradition go!

    About the icing color swirls you need a big cupcake swirl tip. Also you should snip a hole in the bottom of the cylinder. It would have been fine in the bag the way the cylinder works is it seals at the back. The only problem was to small of a tip. 😊😊

    best buttercream recipe you will ever need is salted butter, powdered sugar (icing sugar), vanilla and milk. I do a pound of butter and whisk until it doubles or triples in size (usually around 5 minutes or so on high), 4 cups sifted powdered sugar, about a tablespoon of milk ( may need more or less depending on the desired thickness. whole milk. you can use heavy cream but will need refrigeration after) 1-3 teaspoons vanilla (I use more vanilla as we love the flavor. I also will use other flavorings depending on the cake. then I use half vanilla and half another flavoring)

      Swiss meringue is the best 😊
      5 egg whites
      1 plus two tablespoons sugar
      Wisk over double boiler until sugar.
      Start mixer at low then gradually to high with whip attachment for about 10 min (until bowl is no longer hot)
      2 cups butter. In cubes. Add one at a time and make sure nice and mixed in.
      Switch to paddle attachment (add any flavoring) on medium speed for about 2 min.
      So much silkier and smoother and not as sweet as American buttercream
