I agree with this 100%. One skill is missing for me to complete it. That is the ability to defend ideas. I learned a lot from the review process.

Raising money is another big one. Knowing where to look to find money to fund your work is a big deal. Crowdsourcing and venture capital can mean surrendering control, but a good funding source doesn't come with that tradeoff. The only con is how competitive these agencies are.

An advice that I got from my PhD supervisor. Analyze your errors and try to find what is the recurrent mistake you are making. He told me that when I started my PhD and he was correcting my paper drafts. When I identified what was the error (s) that I was constantly making, my writing skills improved a lot

Mate, one minute you've convinced me to absolutely, under any circumstance, Not do a PhD. Then in the next minute, you've convinced me that like bad tasting medicine, ultimately, a PhD will be the best thing I could ever do. I feel like the, in some ways conflicting, messages of your videos are in themselves as a whole, a test as to whether or not one is worthy of doing a PhD.
Dealing with ambiguity for example, as you mentioned above. To be honest, I'm 40 and I'm going to do one because I want to feel special for a few years before getting back to reality. In addition to other "stuff" that I'll get by doing one. For me it's in Biochem and MB, so in your neighborhood I suppose, but I'm up in Brisbane at UQ or you know what, maybe Griffith even they've got a pretty good HDR program now. No accounting for taste I suppose.

    Dear Andy,
I wanted to express my sincere gratitude for the valuable content you share through your videos. As a young researcher and scholar, I find them incredibly helpful. Your extensive collection of materials on facilitating research and writing papers has been particularly beneficial to me.
I would like to make a request if possible. Could you consider creating a video or providing resources on effectively disseminating our research work? It would be immensely valuable to learn strategies to enhance the visibility of our work, thereby increasing its readability and citation by other scholars. For instance, a video explaining how to make the most out of platforms like ResearchGate would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you once again for your exceptional contributions, and I look forward to your future endeavors.

I think you might be confusing ambiguity with uncertainity. Pardon me if I have misunderstood you.
Ambiguity would be more like, getting the results, that speak in favour of more than one hypothesis, or like the experience you get from a PhD being a pro and a con simultaneously. I. e. it is something that sets in afterwards at the interpretation phase, uncertainity is rather something that precedes an event or a decision. Although, taking into account, that life is a chain of events, the difference might not be that important.
Maybe you have some examples of ambiguity, uncertainity or even cognitive dissonace in academia? How did students deal with it?

I have a PhD and I understand why these 10 skills are such a good fit to the PhD training experience. However, this video would be valuable for anybody, whether they’re going to law school or MBA or taking a job in marketing, most of these 10 skills are things you want to learn in your early or mid 20s as much as possible. Even if your career path is entirely separate from a PhD.
Great video. Maybe PhD students need a little push to wake up to these ten skills and not “just do science.”
