      I dont know about this ship but others will load containers into the hull which has these channels. Then when the hull is full, they stack on the deck and use locking pins to keep them together.

    • @emeraldzebra9360

      @@nolancorrado2317 Yeah I was gonna say how the fuck do they fall overboard then... But yeah I've seen ships that just stack them. Like our trucks, or the nobhead who didn't use the twistlocks and set off and the container slid off the skeleton 🤣

    • @NANICU
      @NANICU 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      The crane operator is loading the containers in the hatch where there are cell guides to hold the containers in place. Once the hatch is full, the hatch covers are placed and containers continue to stack on deck. Usually the first 2 to 3 tiers of containers on deck will be secured with twist locks and lashes. Higher containers are secured with twist locks only.

    Lovely vessel, I know this design is taking maybe more steel than an ordinary container vessel, with lashing bars and twist locks, and to not forget about wind resistance, but this design is much safer for cargo securing, maybe for extra safety to use some lashing system on the last tier but I think this tall cell guides will solve problems that more and more ships are having lately - loosing containers in adverse weather.

    Yeah the crane is very cool but I’ve read that each container has to go to a specific slot due to weight and destination among many things. I like to think about the coordination to have the right truck pull up to the crane at the right moment to load in a specific slot. I’d think that if one truck got out of order, had a breakdown, whatever it could cause delays up and down the whole time critical operation. But I suppose they have computer programs that can make adjustments. Just amazing to watch.

  • @BigBlock632
    @BigBlock632 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I believe I got the controls figured out! Right stick inward is Lock, right stick out is Unlock, right stick forward is Down, right stick back is Up.
    Left stick back is Backwards, left stick forwards is Forward. Also noticed there's about a 2 second delay in the response of the controls.
    How am I doing so far?

    How does he know where to put each container? I'm guessing such a ship should be proberly balanced, but the containers don't seem very evenly distributed...

    • @Container_World
      @Container_World  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I know each position through radio communication! There is one Guy under the crane with a portable computer ( hand model ) he does the checking and tells me what cell guide I have to load..
      It looks not evenly distributed but it is very good planned for a perfect balance for the ship! The crane works on one bay and it happens that one bay had different destinations. Each destination/ port is perfecty balanced because it it isn't it can leave perfect balance but when it arrives in the next port. It still has to be balanced After dischargement! Looks easy but it is soms serious planning!

    im definitely gonna be a gantry crane operator... how I would do it is have all drops to lane 5 and keep all flippers down but back ones, then lower on from the front to pick it up

    • @Container_World
      @Container_World  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +NICKTHEGAMER_ the flippers must be up to load under deck(hold). And the flippers loose grease preassure if you leave them down for more than 3min(hydraulic pump timeout)

    • @NICKTHEGAMERGAMING
      @NICKTHEGAMERGAMING 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      yeah... they would be raised... im just describing for pickup off lane 5 chassis... for discharge above deck... side flippers(if it is a 40 or twins... depends if it is single 20s) and a clear side down... say if it is discharge inwards to the shore... the back flippers could be down.... if the other is open and the front isnt... the flipper pattern could reverse position for the front and back ones ;)

      Martin Thanks for watching Martin! I really appreciate it. It is very difficult to master the big distance between container and cabin. Maximum distance can go up to 52 meters! It takes time to work very percise like in this video. I make it look easy but even with 6 years experience it took 12 months to get perfect control of these new Liebherr cranes!!
      These containers are getting loaded in very high cell guides so they don't need any twistlocks.

      Two questions please;
      1. When to the twistlocks get attached to the containers?
      2. When, how are the twistlocks returned to home port?

    • @Container_World
      @Container_World  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Martin Thanks for asking! 1: when containers are getting loaded above deck/cell guides they need to be locked together with twistlocks. 2: twistlocks belong to the ship. Each ship has it's twistlock flat(or multiple flats) they get discharged first when a ship arrives to put twistlocks in and get loaded as last move on a ship when all containers are loaded with twistlocks.
      Feel free to ask more!
      Greetings

    • @websitesthatneedanem
      @websitesthatneedanem 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Greetings to you too! I guess container layout is all computer controlled, do you have a cab display that tells you container name/number, weight and exactly where on the ship it is to placed? If you mix some up (similar boxes) does it matter? Are checks made as ship are lowered on board, ie. does the ship have a 'load master'? Good to speak to someone that knows!

    • @Container_World
      @Container_World  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Martin Yes we have a computer system, every Container has it's Position on the yard. And has to be loaded in the correct position on the ship to balance the ship for weight distribution. It happens sometimes they switch 2 containers but they always have to be for the same destination and same weight. No problem! You should watch my ''NEW KALMAR K-MOTION'' video on this channel to get An other Angle on the terminal operations. Or my ''reach stacker compilation'' is also a great video where you can see the computer system in our machinery

    I'm just puzzled by how do the operator know that it is locked and ready to lift? Especially if it's all aligned and hooked correctly? Look to me all the operator sees -- is just that -- "sit on top" "press to lock" "ready to lift"....But just what if the truck driver isn't aligning the truck correctly and the crane operator just went forth having the crane "sitting" on the top -- just how the heck did it "lock" it all correctly at all four points? (or even more points?) So many question.

      Most likely no software nearby. At the port I work at there is a hatchman with a list of boxes and positions and he will tell the driver where they need to be placed and will help guide some of the more tricky boxes. This is all pre-planned generally back in the operations building.
